Agreed. It weirds me out that everyone gets the same levels all the time. Fixed experience intake + No gold / items = How the fuck a better player get any advantage? I dont get it. Just seems like an arcade game. maybe that's the selling point? there is no snowballing. Better players just out play worse opponents. Yeah, but that also nonsensically kills depth. Pretty much kills the idea of powercurves; Carries are balanced by the ability to stop them from being Carries. Only way having fixed experience and no items/gold works with this concept is if you just have no carries. Otherwise a stall comp with 2 heros able to waveclear well and then just 3 carries best team all day every day. And call me crazy, but if that's the case then thats the exact opposite of their design philosophy of short average game times. I considerably unhyped. On the other hand, it can also mean that you reach the stage where structures are irrelevant much faster, meaning that a few teamfights can quickly snowball into the Heroes equivalent of 3 towers+inhib in LoL. And then you get short games because they're rather easy to close out. It all depends on how they adjust their tree leveling thing, the structures, buffs, kits, etc.

Probably a tad hyperbolic but Blizzard's move towards more 'generalist' games and mass appeal certainly feels like chasing the $$'s at times when its detrimental to game design. Not a tad hyperbolic, very hyperbolic.
I don't know what it is about Blizzard but after WoW, their games don't seem to have the same impact. D3 and SC2 seemed to be on a completely different wavelength than their predecessors, like they had a completely different aim and didn't understand what made BW (which I regard largely as a fluke, since the pro scene was largely tuned and developed by KeSPA) and D1/D2 popular.
I didn't really play WoW so I have no comment on that.
Also since we were talking about books, I finished The Great Gatsby this morning. I liked the movie when I saw it on a plane but I felt like it was missing something so I read the book.
Man, Leo Dicaprio totally captured the part...

All that can be said about D3 is that I don't even know if it was designed for PC. It looks more and more likely that it was designed in mind for console players instead.

lol HS LR is so funny, so much RNG complaint. Though I think RNG should be limited to card draw for TCG, it's a bo5, good decks just going to be far more consistent.

It doesn't have to do with the skill or the luck--but that these complaints come as a product of the fact that the majority of skill involved in playing a TCG is actually invisible to the spectator. The video game format allows spectator tools to display many of these elements to the player, but Hearthstone does't have many of these yet.
To use MTG as an example, it can be argued that a lot of the player skill in MtG is in intelligent mulligans and sideboarding--but these two aspects are basically invisible to the spectator. Nobody who doesn't already know the importance of these two things would see the "skill" displayed in them. It doesn't convey the skill required. This is especially true because casual players see having to mulligan at all (and especially mulling multiple times) as bad luck.
Admittedly, this was in part because the commentators for the event also had a fairly low-level understanding of the game, and were not really qualified to impart many of these aspects to the audience.

The stream also had the bottom of the screen sort of cut off, so I couldn't see the description of the cards. Which sort of sucked since I wasn't really familiar with Paladin or Warrior class cards.
Also looked more in to Heroes, I'm actually a bit excited for it. Interested in seeing how these maps play out. Though limited champ pool is a bit worrying. only 18 so far shown and blizzcon and around 30~ is what they have right now.

yeah they didnt even know you could bounce shadow madness'd creatures with brewmaster

real Its' one of those moves that everyone theoretically knows can happen, but it's not something you see ever in play. And it wasn't just that move though, in the play Trump did, he board cleared really well with that entire turn.

Well, also they're probably limited by Blizzard lore too, though. It'll be interesting how things pan out.
