I'm not sure if you were able to watch me and Wave through Alterkot last night, but we've been playing for months and are still utter shit.

Yeah but your tenure in League kinda exposed how that's not tied to the game.

Man unstable portal is such a weird card. Earlier I was playing mage for a quest and won a game I had lost because I portalled out a ysera. Now I just lost a game because he got out that 7/6 minion on turn 3 behind 2 mirror images. That variance is just crazy. One hand it does nothing, other hand it wins you the game. Feel it isn't quite right that one card can do that

You're like a Peewee league player mocking a Varsity athlete. Am I good? Naw, but looking at you...

Yeah fighting games are definitely something you have to grind just to get the execution down (thus the famous "execution barrier"). The only reason I can kinda do combos despite not playing much (still dropping them half the time) is because I've played lot of Marvel 3 which is very similar to Skullgirls :p
I might play more though, R.Fortune is really fucking cool, although I'm not sure if there's much synergy in Peacock/R.Fortune team :f

Are you meant to be able to block/cancel grabs purely from reflex? Or do you just block all the time until the other guy fucks up/try and predict grabs/hits, because the reaction time needed to reflexesively do those things seems impossible :o

Or do you just block all the time until the other guy fucks up/try and predict grabs/hits, because the reaction time needed to reflexesively do those things seems impossible :o The short explantion: Human reaction time is roughly 14 frames if you expect it if you know the start up. Any attack that has more than that should be blockable on reaction. In general there is around 2-6 actions you look out for at different positions which are the moves you can not react to (with mind games there are more moves.) So you should use options that cover a lot of scenarios while guessing which options your opponent will choose. You can not cover everything. Blocking/attacking/jumping/grab breaks etc. are to give you options on how to cover your opponents options and limit them not counter your opponents attacks.

It's about learning combos killerdoge, or at least what the usual combos for your match-up look like. Wave always did his full combos on us even though several moves were punishable on block. Since I was beginning sometimes I'd drop my guard, or not know that so or so move has to be blocked high/low, and he'd break me anyway. After a few iterations I guessed when to block high/low so he wouldn't get (parts of) combos for free just because he made me block a jab, and after a few more (where I'd get wrecked because I'd try to hit when my blockstun is longer than his recovery) I found 2-3 parts of his full combo where I'd be able to hit before his next move and punish him.
Of course after I did it a few times Wave started stopping his combos before he reaches these parts if I was blocking everything. That's also the point of some mix-ups: "after that string, you can either follow-up with X (hits low) or Y (hits low) so your opponent has to guess/react and if he always blocks the same way you can just do the other to take him by surprise".
Execution is obviously the main part (so I'll suck always) but it felt very satisfying when I found these "weak links", or when Wave used more than a single combo. You gotta identify what he's starting and react accordingly, and then when there are several points where he can stop or keep doing it (even if you block), guess if he's going to continue (and you can punish him) or stop (and if you try to punish him he'll block or dodge, then punish you instead). Obviously it's super basic level 'cause we're shitters but even at that point it's enjoyable to feel your progress as you understand more of what's going on and start retorting;
(Since I can't do a single combo I do about half or a third of the damage he usually inflicts whenever I punish and get an opportunity so I still get wrecked in the end, though.)
