Very surprised how much I'm enjoying it, might even be in my top 5 books of all time.
Though it might just be because Peeta is a spitting image of myself, and I find myself asking what I would say in his situation, only to have him say something along the same lines.
Loved the first one, didn't read the other two cuz I'm a lazy fuck.
I'll just sit here and wait for Cheep to tell me why I'm a pleb and that they're terrible books.

Nah bro you can like shit you just have to know it's shit and not act like it's not shit :D. Everyone has some kind of trashy thing they love. In Cheep's case we just aren't high enough level to see what of his is trashy in comparison to the rest.

I don't really understand why fighters aren't more popular. They're the easiest games for anyone to watch and understand the basics. There's also more action than games like LoL or SC2. Imagine if Nintendo just embraced the fighter community after Melee? I think they would've had a good shot at being the biggest e-sport today.

Now all you have to do is find some selfish girl to sacrifice for.

I'm not so sure. Melee has ended up being a sort of perfect storm. Nintendo neglected and actively worked against the scene, which made the community incredibly strong. They have also left it completely alone (aside from some very early patching), which has let the metagame develop and prosper for a decade and a half.
If Nintendo was actually involved, I think something would have gone wrong along the way.

Poor online play, 1v1, execution barrier, community that doesn't like being presented as PG, just to name the few.
And it's actually not the easiest genre to understand the basics, 90% people think fighting games are just about mashing buttons, spamming moves and comboing people to death.

The guy with the biggest winnings (30m) in poker is into Hearthstone. Last night on Twitch he said he might stream some.
I'm incredibly interested whether someone that good in poker would be good in CCG too.

There's more money from the creators poured into SC2/LoL/Dota (bBizzard/Riot/Valve) to get the ESPORTS growing. It's a major point of contention in the FGC and why they don't like being called esports - it's definitely more community and grassroots based in terms of funding and promotion.
Re: Hunger Games
I don't think they're that bad, but they're not good either. It is what it is. I do hold the definite minority opinion in that I preferred the later two books to the first one.

I'd wager that it has to do with playing solo vs playing with friends/other people. Team sports are far more popular in 'real' sports as well.

Where did I say that?
And what an ESPORT looks like today is obviously drastically different from 5 or 10 years ago.

You don't really have any understanding of what's happening gameplaywise unless you've learnt to play fighters yourself, and you can't really learn unless you have friends who want to learn with you :S
In most other games the commentators can explain what's going on, but fighting games I have absolutely zero idea what's happening other then them both spamming buttons

I think HS is the only "SP" game that is getting big numbers these days and I think that's largely due to player personalities since the online stuff doesn't do that well. Only really the big lan events where you got all the different streamers and Frodan/Artosis etc. talking bs. The game being slow also helps give time for that personality to come out. Fighting games to a non-fighting game person looks fun but there aren't really enough clear cut signals to convey what's going on and the nature of the games mean you don't get the slow shittalking HS gets.

It doesn't look good on your resume if it isn't a contractor position, and you can expect to be asked to explain that in future interviews.
That's not to say you shouldn't. If it's more money/puts you on a desired career path/is infinitely more enjoyable etc. you should go for it, but be careful that you're not just looking over the fence at greener grass first.

Mockingjay's introspective misery trip (which is to say, pretty much the whole book) was easily my favorite part of the series.

It's not really that big of a stretch tbh. Quite a few pro tour players in MTG have played in the novemember 9 for WSOP. I believe Gabriel nassif even has a braclet in Omaha. Most if the HS pros that I played with in beta also play poker/Holdem at a decent level.
