I can't think of any other sponsors that are comparable to these in scale. So you're assuming that bigger orgs give better contracts? Because I'm not inclined to believe so based on history of sponsorships in FGC. Also, Complexity used to sponsor marvel and sf players, so did Dignitas, EG sponsors 5 sf players, MCZ sponsors lots of players, Liquid has one, Razer has few, Avermedia has one, Hori has one, and then there are several grassroots organisations (such as Brokentier, PIE and CTRL to name more successful ones). What hour are you playing SG?

What hour are you playing SG? Tonight I'll actually likely be home earlier than usual so we can start around 7 est maybe? Depends on soniv and who else is playing too.

I'm not sure, I haven't actually thought about it before. Off the cuff Melee's action is less interesting, and I think it's probably a combination of a lot of subtle things. I am reminded of Every Frame a Painting's video on Jackie Chan, and in that context Melee is to fight scenes in American cinema as SF4 is to Hong Kong's. If you compare the total amount of tournament prize money each year from those 3 games, Smash is pretty close to SF4's and is way more when you consider that half of SF4's money comes from Capcom Cup, which is from the developer themselves (Nintendo is not as invested in Esports and so doesn't do the same for Smash--it'd be like saying DotA 2 was bigger than LoL in 2011 just because of The International). MvC3 doesn't even come anywhere close. Which is exactly why I'm asking the people who know what they're talking about. I don't know squat and I don't expect to become an expert just because I can put "melee sf4 sponsorship money" into google. But I'm a little skeptical of the assertions being made because they conflict with my own experience, and there are other potential explanations. For example, sponsors may prefer Melee not because it's more popular but because it's more stable (as evidenced by 15 years of relevance). Without more detailed information it's hard for me to accept these explanations offhand.

Edit: that'll teach me not to check new page. 7 EST is something like 11 PM so I guess I'll be able to hang around for one or two hours if I don't have something else at that point. And if my comp doesn't freeze again, it did that thrice to me while launching LoL yesterday.

Note - it's not necessarily my own opinion, but one I agree with.

There's a program called VASSAL that lets you play tabletop games online and it has a Warhammer 40k module. From what I hear it can be a bit finnicky but is overall not bad. I know the startup cost is scary but the game is fun and I'd love to teach it to anyone interested. Yes but I don't have time for all the things I want to be doing right now, and I'm not going to start spending money on 40k

(I do have a bunch of necron models taking the dust at my parents'. Not sure if I'll finish painting them one day.)

I realised that as much as stuff like battle reports and theory and the likes are things I can enjoy, I'm just not ready to regularly spend 3 hours for a single game. (I do have a bunch of necron models taking the dust at my parents'. Not sure if I'll finish painting them one day.) Depends on the size. 500 point games are small and can finish in an hour or so (a bit longer for new people who are still learning). Me and the other people at my FLGS can run a 1500 game in about 2.5 hours depending on what armies and how long setup takes.
