I'd feel hypocritical doing such a thing, like giving a gift "because I have to" or "because it's something you do" rather than in any other occasion (or non-occasion) where I just felt like it. Then again my acquaintances did criticise me on occasion for only rarely having kind words.
Are we talking about Mother's Day or your kid making a craft...
Because one is a dumb social convention and the other is not about how you feel about it but how the receiver would feel. aka I'd bet $500 my wife will appreciate the thought, time, effort put into making some stupid craft that will be worthless more than any pragmatic gift I could buy, and especially more than if I just told her the holiday is silly and I didn't feel like it because it felt too hypocritical.
me and my brother have the best birthdays for his bday I released him from his obligation to give me a gift on my bday and he did the same on my bday fuck the police

My mother went with me to buy a nice watch the other day for my bday and my brother normally gets something small for Christmas for me. It's a pity we such brainwashed humans that just follows these stupid social conventions.

I bought a watch today my friend works at some advirtesment company so I got a watch 35 bucks instead of 180 bucks.
I don't think there will be any misunderstanding who made the gift. It's about appreciating your wife for being a mother and doing motherly things. I could easily do this with flowers, a card or any typical gift. I could also make a craft in which I take my daughter's hand, place it in paint, stick on something and that will be the extent of her contribution. It is different and she will still like it

doesnt matter mom will think its cute anyway it mightn't seem logical when you "have to do it" but then if you got a bj for your birthday every year you wouldn't complain about it just because its something she "has to do"
and flowers and chocolate aren't something you get regularly so you have to imagine its a sexless marriage to appreciate the metaphor
moms do unbelievable amounts of shit they deserve it

Oh man do some hand art with your daughter. She'll love that shit so hard. I know my mom looved that when I was a tiny person.
Emotions don't really make sense most of the time. We feel what we feel. What is "logical" doesn't always make one feel happy. Should never think logic and reasoning dictates all facets of life

Just like the social courtesy of offering to pay the bill at a restaurant where the person who ends up paying is actually the winner.
no, the person who ends up giving the better gift is a sucker and so is the person who ends up paying + Show Spoiler +
well not exactly, but I don't consider myself the loser when someone insists on paying for the dinner)

Actually it's extremely American. If you're in management, finance, or other parts of business where social status and networking are critical to advancement that kind of thing is as basic as it gets.
