I'm pretty sure that's not true either. In any formal situation a navy suit would be fine. I've worn my navy suit to graduation ceremonies, weddings and even job interviews (without the tie though). Very formal for me would mean black tie or something.

I wouldn't wear a black suit to an interview. I actually don't even have a black suit.

Actually, Men's warehouse is currently having a sale on suits (Buy 1, Get 1 Free), and there's actually a very nice looking blue suit on clearance.

Considering getting it and another one. Maybe something gray, or a better fitted black suit (I still have that old black suit which has been getting rather tight around the shoulders).

Black suits are fine, but you need to be 100% sure you're not going to sweat and constant vigilance with the delinting thing.
But yea, Grey/Navy/Charcoal are probably better.

I generally need to break out the suit for conferences Im helping logistics with and IR events and what-not, so a black suit is more necessary for me.

fuck it, I'll see if my dad wants a suit too and we can split the cost
Or I wait for the next sale. Yeah, too lazy right now.

Its become more common with Americanization of pleb fashion but its frowned upon in good taste fashion. Black/white tie should exclusively at funerals.

Wore navy to prom. Wore navy to formals. Black to my interview.
Its a shame the navy suit jacket doesn't fit any more. I suppose I could have it altered to fit my shoulders again.

Your original statement was "you don't wear navy outside of very formal occasions," and I would define "very formal occasions" as funerals, black tie events, etc. So you're saying you can't wear navy to interviews, casual outings, etc, which is what confused me. Your second post seems to contradict it...?

I have a black suit, and a second coat (grey) that I can use when I don't want to have a black suit, but no matching pants for the grey coat.
Does this make me too pedestrian for Cheep and LT?
|
I wonder if I'm very behind in fashion or does it simply not apply here yet, because when I was buying my first suit everyone told me to get a plain black one.
|
Depends when you are from really. Here the black suit(although not really plain black but I don't know what word) is standard for any formal thing. Navy is fine too. The States is prob rather different than that.

Anyone else find it interesting that, as Yango has toned down the size of his posts a lot, that Moonbear and Cheep have combined to become the new Yango, AKA the encyclopedia of infinite knowledge?
