That said, I will always make fun of friends. It's always in jest, never for actual malicious purposes. I think racist jokes are hilarious, but I'm not racist. I love the word "faggot", but I believe that a persons sexuality has literally no effect on anything other than their sexual identity. I'm just a reasonable human being who is capable of distinguishing between real assholery and entertainment. Political correctness is just retarded.
I'm sure most of the people here are exactly the same. It's been displayed several times in this thread that we're pretty nice people, especially when someone is going through a particular hardship (Req/myself/coma/today with 6ah/etc).
@Wei: Our generation (and the ones following), as a whole, has been shielded from loss. Think of kids all getting a consolation prize, even if they didn't win. The generation raising us, for some reason, has tried to prevent us from experiencing loss and feeling like we aren't special. This is straight bullshit.
I never really experienced this shielding because growing up I was in gymnastics, and only the people who did well received awards at the end of the meet. Also, my dad was always a hard ass. I'm not afraid of being wrong or making a mistake as a result. It happens, and I try to grow from it. Pretending like everyone is their own special flower and deserves praise is just tossing a blanket of naivety over the eyes of the youth.
People now mistake being politically correct with being actually, genuinely nice. That's the problem-- you can put on a very shallow appearance of caring and stuff about general things, but when your friend comes to you when shit hits the fan all you can do is pat him on the shoulder and spout aphorisms about how its going to be okay instead of actually empathizing.

being a dick is a subjective thing and if someone disagrees with you they often going to think they're a dick anyway, unless you mean they are using ad hominem arguments which not everyone does but you can still think that they are a dick
also pretty sure i offended someone because i made racist jokes or something or saying racist jokes are ok something like that frankly if you're offended though its your problem not mine avoiding a topic that you know is a sensitive subject for someone is being polite, but it isn't being truly honest
i mean assuming the topic is up for discussion, if you just randomly try to offend people fair enough I wouldn't say i was offended. More like ready to honestly state my opinion. Like how i think the opinion "if you're offended though its your problem not mine" is cancer

*shrug* I'm kinda with Teut here. You're allowed to be offended, that's totally fine. That doesn't mean I need to alter myself in order to avoid hurting you. Will I? Probably, depends on the circumstances. My ex hated when I said "retarded", so I tried to avoid using it around her just to avoid bugging her.
But the thing is, people act as if it's a requirement. "I'm offended by that, they should fix it so I'm not offended anymore." No, I'm sorry, that's not how things work.

Does TL have a restriction on how old/long it's been since a post has been made/edit where you can't edit it again?
|
TTP made me want to try my hand at a Nuzlocke run, but I'd rather play a whole new Pokemon game so that I can experience the story/be surprised by events/not know what lies ahead in the gyms and dungeons, which means no gen 1/2 games (and no FR/LG/SS/HG either). Is there one in particular you'd recommand me (being able to play it on emulator would be a plus, as I don't exactly see fit to drop money into a handheld+a game for a single run).

Look at me, waking up and getting all excited that there were 100 posts in the thread. Y'all need to lighten up. Honestly though I think we all perfectly grasp that some posters are smarter than others, certain individuals have a tendency to be overwhelming assholes when someone directly disagrees with them, and when people are nicer than Canadians we really don't get anywhere. I'm sure it's already understood that there is a happy medium in between generic useless nice guy and totally shitting on people for being bad and yet having opinions. I think we're too ready to make excuses for being assholes, because I've seen a few over the years, and they usually just add up to "I'm not sorry." Although I do think that most newcomers have really thin skins.

Is Pokemon actually fun or do you all just have Stockholm syndrome?
I've never played any Pokemon games except for Pokemon Stadium 2 for N64, they just seem like a huge grind/snooze fest.

They are great, but it's entirely possible you needed to be a kid when you played your first one.
Cannot confirm or deny.

It brings me back to the months of contentment with red on my silver gameboy pocket, whom I had named Steve. Before the dark times, before junior high.

There's a lot of optimisation to do behind the hood if you want to be competitive in multiplayer, there's also the whole "customise your party" with your favourite pokemons and stuff. Things like Nuzlocke runs are more about putting restrictions on yourself to both make the games harder and the events easier to relate to, while encouraging you to try and spin a story around what happens.
The games by themselves are extemely easy to beat and the main quest has a pretty short duration if you plan to rush it (you can generally just overlevel your starter Pokemon and one-shot everything that comes across you), it's everything else that makes them worthwhile I'd say. The reason why I feel like starting a Nuzlocke isn't because I'm watching a stream of people playing Pokemon, but because of all the random events happening and how the participants and watchers create storylines around them. It makes it more compelling, and it keeps things interesting (DigRat's already receiving some love).

No, I'm sorry, that's not how things work. oh yeah for sure its on a case by case basis whoe's in the wrong when someones offended. someone getting offended doesn't make something bad but you cant be like "i just drop Holocaust jokes get over your dead grandpa." either. like instead of changing not to offend people hopefully offended people just back up why something is offensive with articulate arguments and convince the other person they don't want to say it. talkin bout that optimism.

Every once in a while, I'll buy a Black&Mild for funsies. Had one last night, and I'm really regretting it today. For some reason, I need the occasional reminder that I'm glad I'm not a consistent tobacco consumer lol.

I let my little 2nd cousin (Like 6? IDK) have my old DS with pokemon still in it because I forgot and he loves it. He has something over 120 hours in 2 months. Little kids love this shit.

It's a very well done, simple to play collection RPG. If you like RPGs, there's a lot to love about Pokemon. If you're a min/max stat cruncher, there's plenty to do. If you like ticking all the boxes, there's plenty to collect. If you like a nice simple story that's fun but still good, well it varies from game to game. The competitive scene is also pretty good if you're into that sort of thing.
It's not the most complex game by a long shot, but they're all extremely well made for what they are and executed damn near perfectly (as to be expected after 6 generations). Like most Nintendo franchises, it's a series that you don't expect huge innovation or world-changing gameplay from, but you know each one is going to be fun and have some new neat little toy to play with.
In other news, fuckin Midwest weather man. Monday we got like 5 inches of snow and today it's almost all melted and it's 50 degrees out. wtf.

Honestly they are all pretty much the same to Nuzlocke. Pick the one you want to play the most, or your favorite starter/gen.
