New inhouse logistics TBD. In the meantime, feel free to hang out in the league general discord https://discord.gg/0lCEKA3jUEFxERzd ("add lol" in #welcome) and get some ad-hoc games going! |
+ Show Spoiler + For checkers: I got a lot of auto attacks on you for free while you were trying to cs, I think a more helpful strategy in preserving health on Graves is wait a little if it's pushing towards your tower, then blow up all the cs with your skills to farm. It's a little hard without a sustain support otherwise since Caitlyn won't really let you AA creeps for free.

What time PST do you guys play?

This caused me to play even more passively in the early game than I normally would have, because Udyr was kept on the bottom half of the map and I started without a ward. Either way, I kept cs pretty close until the first skirmish broke out. I reacted quickly and got there before J4, but he came away with a kill while I got an assist. Another similar situation occurred a couple levels later, and I was left with 2 assists to Jarvan's 2 kills. I think I played the lane poorly from here. + Show Spoiler +- From here, I would still have had a good opportunity to put pressure on the lane, but I was under heavy pressure by Hecarim. A few pink wards made it impossible for me to keep up vision effectively, and the first gank forced me to burn flash after baiting them into a bush with my ult in it. This at least did good damage and kept me a bit safer for a bit, and my team got dragon. So, all in all, this wasn't so bad.
- I almost killed Jarvan when my ult came back up, but I had no flash to follow up on Jarvan's Flash EQ, so he got away with about 100 hp. Either way, this let me shove the lane and grab sorcs to hopefully secure the kill next time.
- With my flash still not up, Jarvan did a really nice job baiting me into going for some flamespitter harass, and I got lane ganked by Neo's ult and Jarvan ult. With Jarvan getting 2 quick kills and rushing Brutalizer, I was dead before Jarvan ult even ran out.
- I think, after this, I should have just roamed, because I was 1.5 levels down in exp due to the kills and missed cs after that gank (and letting Udyr shove 2 waves earlier to deny Jarvan 1 wave), and with Jarvan coming back to lane with pickaxe/long sword, I knew that I was never going to be able to stack defensive stats to stay in lane. However, I tried to farm safely, but the pink wards kept coming and Neo kept the gank pressure on. I died twice more (once before my tower went down, and once after), especially because the other team was smart and warded deep, causing Udyr to lose control of his jungle.
- The other team continued to expand their advantage methodically, and then sieged our top inhibitor turret. Varus got impatient, and our team all pulled the trigger on the fight at the same time, which was great. I thought my Rumble ult here was pretty good at trapping the enemy team and not allowing a good escape route.
- We got a free Baron off of this, and the game really turned quickly. The other team still wanted to fight us, which I didn't really understand, and we won a fight in mid lane, getting an inhibitor. They then made matters worse by funneling single file around a wall in bot lane, which is basically easy pickings for a Rumble/Nami/Orianna/Twitch team.
- I got to troll wei2coolman with Zhonya's, which made the game extra worth.
I was really impressed with how our team coordinated our team movements (although there was the occasional "Imma do wolf camp while my team is in the enemy jungle!" moment), and how we stayed patient but still jumped on really advantageous fights in order to turn a game that featured a 9/0 Jarvan that was impossible to itemize against because he started Bruta/LW. My biggest take away was to try to exert pressure somewhere else on the map in the future when it becomes clear that I am no longer a real obstacle to Jarvan taking top due to an advantage in skirmishes, a couple of brutal ganks, and a huge vision disadvantage. Yeah... that was pretty derp. I'm not sure why I did that. I guess I thought it would take me like 4 seconds and then I would be there in time. Really it isn't remotely close to as important as being with team, in the end I got there in time but I'm glad you brought that up because that was an example of Bronze level decision making. Between you and hummingbird making calls for the team I agree our team movement felt really good after midgame.
Also, neo, did you go to my red through the tribush?

I definitely need to work on that. It's fine if someone else is making calls, but in solo queue there's none of that. I need to basically develop my game sense a lot more so that I can make good calls later on as well.

I think the invade on your red was risky since I got really low and had to burn flash (could you have followed me into dragon pit?). Was that the appropriate response after seeing you complete Red? Did you notice I hadn't checked my Red with your ward and headed straight to yours?

However, it's hard to do a specific to the person recap since there are ten people who all want to say something. It's probably not terrible but even with just the 5 after the game you had to wait your turn etc. It's not that hard to skim the thread for things that relate to you anyways

We were Blue side, went through our Golem ramp, dropped an Explorer Ward on our Blue along the way. Went through top tri brush, went northeast next to your double golems. Stopped at your Red. Warded your Wraith Brush. Ok, we had warded wraith bush. I started Blue and hadn't seen you at Red so I did wolves (not so sure about this path) Then I saw you come out of Red and was like crap. I think the invade on your red was risky since I got really low and had to burn flash (could you have followed me into dragon pit?). Was that the appropriate response after seeing you complete Red? Did you notice I hadn't checked my Red with your ward and headed straight to yours? Did you get a Smiteless Blue? If so, Wolves is a waste. You did right by going to my Red. I had a good idea where you were. You didn't start at my Blue, I started at your Red. That meant one of two other spots. I guessed you guys weren't going to be aggressive enough to start at my Red. I did your Red, my Blue and went straight to my Red. Arrived just as you finished Lizard and forced you to Flash. I had more HP and a few paces ahead of you. I ran Smite/Ghost on Hec, so I couldn't have followed up.

Seriously though, I think people hate supporting because the communications is so bad (both from ADC and support). When you don't communicate, you can't trade or make plays with success and the ADC ends up getting zoned 1v2 while the support naps in the bush. Especially when you hit 6 and want to go all-in, please type in caps "I AM 6 GET READY FOR MY ALLIN".

I wasn't thinking about the supports when I started building the cutlass and did not to switch midway through.

I feel like it's really difficult to call a play in advance as Thresh.
When you see a hook opportunity you have to just go for it, there's pretty much no time to ping the target first or the hook is going to miss. I feel like it's on the ADC to react immediately once a hook lands.
We did need to do a better job before laning started of discussing what our gameplan was and what levels we were gonna be aggressive and what levels we were going to be passive though, which I really don't know how to do for a lot of matchups.
Thresh v. Nami I feel like Thresh has to play defensive and wait for Nami to miss a bubble before he tries to go crazy, is that incorrect? If I hook somebody while bubble is up Nami can easily bubble me and their duo can do their whole burst combo on me and I can't get away easily.
|
if we were talking about Blitzcrank I would agree, but definitely not for Thresh. You have 1.5 seconds to decide if you want to go in and there are many scenarios to not go in. Especially on voice com, you have to say if you're going in or not. Death sentence doesn't have to be used to go all-in either, it's perfectly fine for you to just hold someone in place and I get off a free q or e. It's also my bad to go super deep with you every time you landed a hook. Lastly lane presence isn't about having potential to all-in, it's about being a constantly in your opponent's face with aggressive posturing and poke like what chill77's Nami was doing.

Yeah, I should try landing a Q and just holding them there for a Varus arrow, that is a good idea and I did not think of it.
