Lets go! awesome event
Wait, this already starts tomorrow?
Cheering for Serral as always. Hope Skillous, Showtime and Heromarine will also have good runs.
Do KRs usually attend these?
Wow cool to see Stephano playing. I hope Skillous, Astrea, trigger do well.

Yes. Not this one though because:

Cloud9 already booked GuMiHo' flight and due to recently announced IEM Katowice qualifiers he cancelled.
Solar was sitting this one out after his GSL win. I assume to rest/focus on Atlanta.
Cure wanted to focus on Atlanta.
ByuN declined since the timeline of this event conflicts with private stuff.
Classic declined his invite.
Since I was looking for a top terran (dont even have to ask Maru unfortunately) I would say I was out of luck. I could have considered Bunny for example but then WE get into the range of "which player also brings value" since we have less Budget than usual for this and flying in someone from KR means I can probably support 1.5-2 less players from EU.
So it wasnt even particularly about the money this time

Astrea has a good chance of getting through. Scarlett and trigger vs HeroMarine on equal ping, not holding my breath ...
Beginning with a Serral match, hell yeah.
The matches are really bad somehow. Maybe I expected more and I didnt watch any sc2 for some time but oof.

Thats what happen when you have a 24 players tournament but around half of them arent expected to be doing anything meaningful imo. The prize distribution also reflect that, when only top 12 are making money, with the rest enjoy a free trip to HSC with food and drink.
But to be fair, some of the PvZ have been pretty good to watch.

Both of them have the ability to beat the very best players atm. The problem is wherever they can do so with enough consistency. For one series trigger wins against ByuN, Scarlett might lose against Gerald, and vice-versa.
In comparison while HeroMarine does have a dip in form this season, I'll still favour him on the back of him being more reliable on average.
Whoa, if Reynor and Scarlett end up winning group D, then I have my favourite players making it through in each group. So glad Harstem made it, I was sure Elazer would take that spot.
Siiiiiiiiick game 1 of Heromarine vs Scarlett.
Reynor protoss is so zergy, that's quite refreshing to see
Wow watching Reynor's Protoss is really cool, guess Protoss really might be ok and he is just an incredible player
Also, CYCLONES hahaha Seriously though, it would be nice if we can find a way to make Cyclones slightly better at TvP mech rather than TvZ mech
Reynor 2:0'ing Scarlett with his offrace Protoss is wild, especially considering these were fairly long and standard games. Reynor's playstyle with Protoss is really cool and zergish, though: very active, looking for map control, rapidly expanding, and frequently using multi-pronged attacks and flanks.
HeroMarine's mass cyclone/mech strategy against Scarlett was neat to watch as well.
My god, the top half of the bracket is going to be a ZvZ slaughterfest. Bottom looks like Clem should ez breezy his way to the finals.
Showtime forgetting the base is one of the most ridicolous things I've seen in a progame
Wtf is this Showtime vs Reynor final game. :D
top 2 brainfarts I've seen in a pro match next to MKP
I bet that area with the base in the middle looked like the Bermuda Triangle on Showtime's minimap.
I'm not so sure if he did forget about that base.... His camera was over it multiple times near the end. I think he made a conscious decision not to get it.

Legitimately the only explanation i have is that Showtime has gigaPTSD from losing a PvZ because he took that middle base and he decided that hes never taking that base again. Nobody forgets a base for 20 minutes on this level :D

Then why didn't he take it despite the camera being over it multiple times? That removes the forgetting excuse cus he saw it. He must have thought it was too wide open for Zerglings to kill his Probes or something.

Did Showtime pull a Snute and forgot one of his base existed?
Great showing from Harstem
RIP i gotta watch reynor vs Showtime. Sounds sad if a base was forgotten, woulda been crazy if Showtime won
Harstem vs Clem was very exciting, yes Harstem could have played slightlyy better and won, but that's also why Clem is a top player. Very great showing, was hype af.
Great games from Skillous
holy shit just saw showtime vs reynor g5
It's such a crazy thing to see Raynor being able to keep with Serral while playing Zerg OR Protoss... aaaaand losing PvPs to Arrogfire in weekly ESL cups
absolutely incredible game 1 reynor serral
Damn Reynors PvZ is crazy. Serral not happy
Not that it's a huge deal but I don't like it how you can change races after the vetos are done in this tournament.
First time in a while that Reynor vs Serral is delivering good games, hope this continues!
Lol it's only map 3 of the first semi finals. The matches should have started 2 hours early. It'll be 3AM by the time the finals start. Will they even be allowed to stay that long?

The second semifinal should be quick. There's no way they'll keep going to late game every game like Serral and Reynor did in the first two games.
Still don't understand why they start at 2 or 3 hours earlier on a sunday, gonna be a tired Monday

I was wrong, so wrong...

Why did skillous stop at 68 probes? Could have taken all bases and be at 80 workers with constant trading.
After having watched Reynors PvZ, I want him to play PvZ as well vs Clem. Feels like he could do much better in many of these situations.
EDIT: Again on map 4. 6 bases and 69 probes. While Clem has 80 + OC's. These protosses in this tournament likes to handicap themselves.

imagine a really cool map but it's broken for a single matchup, no problem you just veto it as long as the remaining maps are generally balanced, except you could have someone switch race just for 1 map

Scammed from bo7 finals.
What an epic day of SC2 and nerding and clownery and there is still a Serral vs. Clem grand finals incoming at 1:15 am. We are blessed.

Another championship to the Goat per usual
Only herO is the crazy Protoss that can probe up to 90 while defending Terran army.
Btw I am seeing Terran NOT vetoing Equilibrium , is there any reason for it? i thought the gold base mean Zerg got a free win here?
Congratulations to the goat. Strong play, as so often.
Fun fact: Serral dropped only two maps in this tournament, one of which was against Reynor's protoss.
As always, really fun event. Many thanks to TakeTV for putting it together!
No BO7?! I guess it was too late.

Good crowd, super entertaining games--grats to Serral and huge thanks to Take and his crew for continuing to put together HSCs in these times!

tournament felt rushed. i also didnt like the finals being changed to bo5 even if both players agreed to it. i feel like if ur trying to save time u have to know where and when to do it. changing the finals is not it.
^ Meh, did the finals look like it would have benefitted from an extra game? Heh.
Serral going 19-2 is frankly redonkulous.
Didn't have time to check out most of the latter part but regarding the race thing:
Pretty much every single modern competitive game uses the format of:
1. First Map being neutral, pre-determined, or randomly selected after Veto. 2. Players Blind pick Units. 3. Loser's Map Choice (Stage/Zone/Field/Battleground/Map) [Before the next game, 1st to occur] 4. Winner's Unit Selection (Race/Character/Composition)** [Once the Map has been determined] 5.. Loser's Unit Selection.
**From this some organizers choose to enforcer winner's to be bound to their choice until they lose, but that is up to whatever the TO wants for their event.
Reasoning for this is pretty straight forward since it promotes the closest series possible.
Race changing is fine if it happens in this manner.
Finals being shortened is absolutely fine if both players agree to it. All a longer series does is increase the chance that the better player will win (unless they are incredibly fatigued). I enjoy watching Serral's games regardless of opponent, but the tournament didn't lose much value from omitting potentially one less than ideal competitive match.

will there be a replay pack?

Maxpax gets ton of probes. Maxpax likes to get a 4th base though after he scouts 2-base allin.

The GOAT strikes again! And now with the H5C title.. truly the best of the best!

In what sense did it feel rushed for you? It felt rushed when clems semifinals winners interview was skipped, the finals was shortened and we kept having to hear the casters say production is telling them to hurry up. Again, most of that is understandable and I'm okay with, it was a long day and I imagine people have flights and etc they need to get to in the morning but those were the areas I would say I felt it. Overall though I don't want to make this post too negative, I really loved the event, I thought it came out beautifully and I have been watching for 10+ years and am incredibly grateful you guys and your passion continue to support starcraft!
