I just want to see honest interviews with all top koreans about their attitude to 2020 year online tournaments. Or this excuse discussion will never end.

koreans have never been as good/consistent in online tournaments, idk why people are still surprised when koreans lose online

I agree, you can just look at TY's multitask vs Stats in GSL and now, it seems like his double has played now.

TY is the easiest example. There's leagues of difference between GSL where he puts in his blood and soul and online events where he just recycles the same few builds in half-assed games and sees how far it can take him.

Unfortunately, this is something that ESL or the casters can't bring up as it'll just kill the hype of the tournament, while this gives an opportunity for foreign fans to claim that the foreign players have surpassed the Koreans.

man, this was boring... just can't belive what is with koreans in this tournament. it is ok to lose, but way they lost so many games is awful, as B- players. i feel bad for sc2 future if this is reality.

I feel like this happens all the time in online tournaments, even back to TSL3 everyone was like "OMG koreans bad, foreigners good?"... online tournaments just don't really amount to anything but people keep forgetting

Ah, so how comes a similar thing happened offline in Korea(GLS vs the World 2019)?
No one would believe the results of this DH finals set in stone that foreigners have overtaken koreans, the situation seems to fluctuate and we also have tournaments that koreans dominate in old fashion.

However, you have to accept the fact there are now foreigners who can, sometimes, be superior to even the best koreans and respect the fact that even the other strong foreigners can be competitive against them.

With Clem and Reynor on the rise, Serral still an absolute beast and Neeb apparently back to his 2016/2017's level, non korean Sc2 may have never looked that strong.

Pretty common for them to take breaks after Code S. And the ones in this tournament don't exactly have to worry much about qualifying for Katowice so it's not exactly a fight for their life. They'll probably start putting in more hours around Super Tournament but after that the next offline tournament seems so far away.

I honestly don't think so. There should be no problem in saying that Neeb played well and hyping his success while acknowledging that TY played like crap (and, more generally, that there are factors like online and cross-server which matter). Starcraft watchers have generally been around for a while and are quite committed to the game -- imo the broadcast doesn't actually need to try to score cheap points by peddling over-simplistic narratives.

Because most of them already have won hundreds of thousands of dollars and 10k+ USD is nothing much for them? It is only Armani that is the least accomplished of the bunch.

Thinking about it, I think you're right. I think they could do it in a way that lets the viewers know the circumstances surrounding the tournament and bring those factors in. One thing that I've noticed in most of the SC2 tournaments is that the casters don't bring up a lot of personal/situational circumstances and discuss how those impact performances. Those sorts of things are discussed all the time in traditional sports.

Trap seemed to care judging from his reactions, by the way.
King of Battles was played online one month ago, it had a smaller prize pool and was not worth ESL points either; koreans won big. Did they care? Foreigners didn't care?

Of course they like money. It's more that you have to focus your time and energy somewhere, and they do that with GSL and Katowice/Blizzcon.

Not to take anything away from the foreigners, but something that has been concerning me lately is that I’m sensing a lack of effort by Koreans honestly. I hope I’m wrong

if Korean players don't give a shit about online/international tournaments, why would they silently participate in the uncomfortable hour?
- hey do you want to play 3 matches and possibly win some $?
- not really, no
- ok so you are not joining, are you?
- why, ofc im joining, I will most definitely play. I'll probably be super lazy and generally bad since i don't care much, but ofc i do appreciate playing at 3am when i don't care.

I don't get this logic.

How in the world does losing a single Bo5 mean the player doesn't care about winning? Neeb just stomped TY in this one match today... it's that simple. To suggest that players who won a few hundred thousand over 8-10 years don't care to win another 5 figure check is just dumb.

Exactly, that stuff is good content. People who are in to something generally like to delve in to stuff like that.
