To be fair to Trap, he lost more to Nydus SH and infestors last year, iirc dude is world class mechanically and a very smart player otherwise Even at the start of this year he lost to alot of zergs (he really imporved that mu it seems, maybe that's why his pvt suffered :D )
he wasnt winning them all but he wasnt only losing to world class zergs either
he swept all the zergs in both code S's for exampmle, including soo
even in WCS finals 2019 he barely lost to reynor 2-3

Game 1: Trap expanded behind the Golden Wall, proxied Oracles, did damage, transitioned into Archon harass then killed Reynor with a Chargelot timing. Game 2: Reynor defended really poorly against Adept aggression, Trap transitioned into Disruptors which were garbage against the Zerglings, but then got Colossi and won. Game 4: Adept all-in.

Yeah it wasn't the standard adept timing. Also that wasn't the DRG defense I think. You stay on 40 drones for that one.

Guess Cure has a chance to ruin that though.
This might be Trap's first championship title after like 6 years. Let all aboard hype toss train.

Interesting to see how Trap switched up standard builds in G1, 2, and 4, his wins.
First game, the oracle -> HT archon drop is already pretty out of fashion (hence the late roach warren by Reynor), and Trap adds gates 5-6 instead of the usual third base to make for a deadly 2 base allin against 70 drones.
G2 was a bizarre take on the usual gladept play, with a fast 2nd and 3rd gate before twilight, but it forced Reynor into a huge number of lings and a late roach warren. I checked the timings, and the standard glaives hits at 4:24 with 8 adepts, while Trap managed to be at the third base with 8 adepts at around 4:35, with a later prism/glaives, but holding Reynor to like 34 drones and no roach warren, which generated way more damage than usual.
G4 just seemed sloppy by Reynor tbh, but doing the standard glaives build but adding a late gates 5-6 should have been easy to scout and react to. It's probably smart, since the glaive defense is very tight these days, so a few extra adepts might screw it up a lot more than we'd expect, but I can't imagine it's a meta-breaking variation.

So happy for Trap. What a total badass

He couldn't scout in game 4 because he lost his Overlord

Head says Cure, the clown fiesta in me says Trap edges out Reynor only to get 4-0ed by Serral in the most anti-climatic finals since Maru v Zest / Nestea v Inca...
Oh gosh, I missed the clown fiesta! How was it?

Trap is so likeable tho, kinda happy he won even if I was on Reynor hypetrain.
"to be honest i dont think ping is the reason i lost i didnt play too hot but giving the koreans the chance to force west only is a bit of a joke" - Reynor on Twitter.
Hmmm...

INnoVation yesterday, Trap today showing how good they on preporation. Imaging they have 1 week for it or more, It's why "goat" Serral and others never win GSL. Ofc I mean standart GSL, not Super Tournament and stuff like that. In skill maybe some foreigens on the same level with top koreans, maybe even better but in termp of preporation it's a huge difference

He does seem to be going on classic's trajectory at least in PvZ. Classic originally fell a bit on the macro toss end of the spectrum. Then he shifted to his madhouse of PvZ timings.
Damn I miss classic.

So Pvz in finals trap doesnt have enough builds anymore so rip if pvz finals?

Rogue's build saved the day.

Not to mention the fact that Serral would be playing on the Korean ladder, so Koreans would know more about him.
There is so much data on Koreans compared to what the Koreans have on Serral.
At the absolute highest level, data on an opponent is so important.
