Football casters are biased, therefore SC2 casters shoudl do it also......

Not agree at all. Also Football casting is more regional, but sc2 casting is worldwide, specially the official English cast, so a more neutral cast will be nice. Honestly the main reasons why I cheer against Serral and Reynor is because the obnoxious casters/fans bias, its just so awful.

I liked the first game. That Adept pressure into Disruptor transition build looks pretty cool.
I bear this sig to commemorate the loss of the team icon that commemorated Oversky's 2008-2009 Proleague Round 1 performance.

Ideally we should have unbiased casting, I agree.

It's ironic, however, that you don't see how much this forum is(and even more, was) biased towards korean players, especially Terran ones.

Any time a British club was in Europe, especially going back 10-15 years the commentary was always at least slightly skewed towards the British team. From listening to podcast interviews with Martin Tyler and Clive Tyldesley they’d admit to a bit of that, and they’re two of the bigger hitters over here.

Especially when we watched less European football in general people were more familiar by far with the teams they watched that week, the supporters of that team + those neutrals who wanted to see a British team advance would all root for that team and the commentary would reflect why the audience were tuning in in the first place.

Never got obnoxious, especially if the British team happened to be the underdog but it was there and does add some flavour.

They’re in the entertainment business, not fulfilling some sacred civic duty. The stream peaked at what, 50k? With a cursory glance at Twitch chat it’s pretty obvious a lot of them aren’t exactly hardcore consumers of all SC2 content/knowledgable players, some are fans of particular streamers etc etc.

There’s a pretty broad church to please there, don’t think it gives a pass on bias if it’s over the top. Equally I think it’s grossly unfair to accuse casters of being paid to only hype up foreign players.

Doesn’t mean they can’t do a better job either. I did watch a lot of the event and perhaps missed some stuff but honestly if I was a new fan, or a returning one after a lay-off (as I was once in life) I don’t think I’d have known that Trap made 2 of the last 3 GSL finals and really I think that’s a problem for framing his matches. One of if not the best all-round Protoss currently and you wouldn’t actually know he was of that calibre, which is one example of exceeding catering to a foreign audience and leaving too much potential hype out.

Is it tho? Nobody in the live thread gave him a snowball's chance in hell vs. Serral, even after beating Reynor soundly. And absolutely nobody was happy with the games as they happened. It was either a successful timing attack or a failed timing attack from both sides and the games were utterly forgettable, probably even if there is a die-hard ZvP fan out there, he wasn't impressed by that series. I mean, I don't think there is much doubt that Trap is currently the best or second-best (maybe Parting is sharper) protoss in the world, but the race is currently in the dumpster and reaching the finals was already an amazing feat.

Everybody was expecting Reynor to thrash him with no difficulty, but Trap had some very clever builds and Reynor didn't do his homework and got solidly schooled that he shouldn't underestimate top Koreans, even if their race is currently awful.

I’m a Trap fan and still thought it’d be a crushing vs those two.

On the other hand when playing with HeroMarine, it was as if he was just some random Korean Protoss not a 2x GSL finalist/arguably top PvTer around.

I don’t really get it, I mean it makes the match more hyped even from the foreign bias angle if they’re going toe to toe with a monster instead of some random guy.

I can’t say I’ve ever minded the Serral hype too much. Overboard a few times but first we had the foreigner trying to win Blizzcon angle, then since Serral’s just been a monster the Koreans don’t like facing. I mean especially for the guys who’ve been here since BW a genuine foreign contender on that level was over a decade in the making.

It is impossible to be entirely unbiased or entirely neutral in casts, and I’m not sure an entirely neutral cast is all that fun anyway. Classic’s last hurrahs (for now) kind of benefitted from the underdog throwing his final punches over ‘hey here’s two really good players’. Same with MVP’s last deep GSL run.

I do find the HeroMarine love a bit much though, it’s magnitudes above what an equivalent foreigner T like Special gets

honestly the bias/personal favorites doesn't bother me because no one really tries to mask it as objective fact. I'm more annoyed by instances of super-short caster memory, where the most recent thing that happened must be the most important thing that ever happened

I find the liquipedia page for the EPT points rather confusing. It seems not to take into account the DH Summer season final, but is already handing out points for DH Fall...?

Season finals are part of Global points.

Ok, but if all global points are lumped together over the whole season, it becomes impossible to see what players scored in each and every event. In addition it clearly increases the possibility of making errors in the scoring table. I hope this can be changed so that scores are shown for each and every major event as it was in the past.

Exactly. When assigning people to do stuff expect it to get done. Assigning people to do stuff and then do it yourself is lousy management.
