I mean he only narrowly beat Rogue 3-2 so Rogue is definitely close to him.

Maru could have dominated the scene from the start of LOTV if he was really above every players. He did not.
It's just the meta right now favors his agressive playstyle, and probably the other kor play worst due to region lock/kespa team disbands.

That's what happens. Metas change, patches change, maps change, the reigning best player in the world also changes.
Maru did worse last year than he did now. Just like nhow INno did trash the first year of LoTV, or how ByuN has done much worse in the last year. Or how Zest won the first GSL in LoTV and was borderline irrelevent the next year etc etc
