still watch it sometimes

So you rewatch it from time to time and still feel that way ?

oh yeah

That's some dedication. I find some movies don't hold up at all after some time, but the first Pokemon must've been pretty good for you to keep going back to it.

maybe it has something to do with nostalgia but the battle scenes are really well made and it's also pretty emotional

Yeah they certainly were. I think the issue I had with 2k was how they made everything so "THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD ASH! SAVE IT YOU'RE THE CHOSEN ONE!" etc etc. I found his plot armour a bit too thick, but 1 was great.

Yeah, those are mostly super long cutscenes actually.

Also the movies I listed are only ones with international theatrical releases. Who knows what you could find if you spend a few hours going through Rotten Tomatoes and stuff.

Note that when I say "most critical acclaim", it's in comparison to other video game based movies.

In the grand scheme of movies all of these were considered at best "Meh" I think.

I think Pokemon movies in that time frame were definitely kids' stuff because didn't they recently start designing stuff for their now-aging audience?

I still find that's kinda one of my biggest gripes with the normal Pokemon anime, where it's just made for kids. When they did stuff like Origins it was so much more hype.
