Stephano was so good because he didn't give a fuck about his opponent I still think that foreign players will have a very hard time against korean terrans, and that if the game were to be well designed, they would stand no chance ever. But yeah nowadays with the sponsors dropping and stuff koreans are at an all time low so it's almost easy to beat them, especially in matchups such as PvP. This further enhances the point that WoL beginning was the most competitive Korean era. Kespa era wasn't as tough. koreans kept training together while they were steadily declining and the infrastructures disappearing, so they ended up all getting worse except for some lone wolves like ByuN and the most gifted like Dark. Same thing happened in chess honestly when soviet chess collapsed. Who would have thought that chess would nowadays be dominated by a norwegian, a french, an italian and an american ? It's not like they had a choice this year when it came to training together. And it's not like the Koreigners did any better.

true but competitive chess is still played and russian players just don't dominate like they used to. Yeah there is Karjakin, but his run to the championship finals was quite strange and I don't think he'll do too well vs Carlsen.

They're pretty different. Hider is mostly just salty, and whines a lot about balance, David Kim, WCS, David Kim, casters, David Kim etc. Whereas JJR is mostly positive in a weird i-know-better kinda way.

But there are a lot of reasons why the skill gap is now really narrow.

Damn thankfully I'm not watching that, so cringe :x. Hopefully TY and ByuN will show us that the gap won't ever close as long as such players still have interest in the game, just meta/balance variance allowing inferior players to look remotely competent.
