[WCS] IEM Katowice NA Qualifiers

The time has come for you all to qualify the very first WCS Winter Championship taking place at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2016. There is $150,000, 10,000 WCS points, and a WCS Global Playoffs seed all up for grabs, and the North America Region will be sending Six Players to compete for it. Get all the info below!

Qualifier Dates and Brackets


Week 1
Qualifier 1: Wednesday January 27th at 7:00 pm EST - View Brackets
Qualifier 2: Thursday January 28th at 7:00 pm EST - View Brackets
North American Final 1 : Saturday January 30th at 7:00 pm EST - View Brackets (P)Neeb (T)MaSa (Z)Petraeus qualified!

Week 2
Qualifier 3: Wednesday February 3rd at 7:00 pm EST - View Brackets
Qualifier 4: Thursday February 4th at 7:00 pm EST- View Brackets
North American Final 2: Saturday February 6th at 7:00 pm EST - View Brackets

Open Qualifier Cups
Restrictions

  • You must be a citizen or be residing in any country apart of the Americas, Taiwan, China, AZN, or SEA Region.
  • You must have correct game account on ESL profile so replay report system can work!
  • Top 4 players of each open cup move into NA Final 1 or Final 2.
  • Top 3 players of each NA final advance to Katowice.
  • All games must be played on the North America server!
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by March 4th 2016 ( the date of the LAN event).

I don't get it. It's NA qualifier but you can't be American.

I'm probably missing some important piece of info here, but aren't the regional challenger events supposed to run before the server qualifiers? Everyone plays in the regional challenger because it has prize money and circuit points -- it's not just about qualifying for the championship. It should also take priority on determining qualifiers because it's the most region-locked.

Only after qualifiers are determined every other way, the server qualifiers are run to determine the next best players. Doing the challenger first should get a more competitive pool of players into the championship and it should also minimize the amount of extra games that must be played (should avoid some extra series being played at the challenger to determine qualifiers and should also save 8 players the trouble of playing the server qualifiers at all).

What exactly is the priority on qualifying anyway? If someone who is in the championship via invite from WCS Points wins their regional challenger, does the next highest WCS Point player get invited or does 2nd place at the regional challenger get the spot?

However it works, my gut is telling me the server qualifiers should be played last, but I'd like to hear from whoever designed the system to explain the rules of it and how they determined that the system they figured out is the best it can be.

Not really a complete answer to the above and it would be nice to have full information, but apparently we will usually see the server qualifiers after the challenger system :

edit: Sorry misunderstood, the default server is going to be US central if players can't come to an agreement on what works best.
