it has always been the same. High GM KR is insane, the mark varying but like if you're top 50 you're pretty good apparently. On the other hand Departure was top 16 and struggled a lot in actual tournaments.

Don't be that focused on ladder. Pro players don't pay attention to ranking, it is just everyday practice outside CG and tournaments.
For example, Stephano used to quit a ladder game if he was not satisfied with injections or other stuff. He could try 10 times in a row a specific build order just to know if it was worth it.
