This is probably bollocks. It's obvious that those who are supergood now would beat the crap out of those who were supergood then. Yes, strategy and situations do change but I seriously doubt MvP had the same macro that Inno displayed (just to mention one supergood terran). It was impressive then, it isn't now. Players usually fade away not because they get worse by themselves (at least most often) but because they improve slowly/don't improve while the others improve faster.

HoTS and WoL are different game. Players that are good at HoTS are not necessarily as good at WoL.
Late WoL level of play is mostly optimal.
