Bo1 Ro32 was a mistake imo that shouldn't be repeated.
The rest was fine.
don't forget the dumb Rain vs Fantasy thing lol, what a fuck up that was by OSL
the mappool was bad, but for half the part of it you have to blame blizzard. (blizz maps newkirk and star station are totally broken, anaconda and GG beach too though D. this lead to massive terran winratios because those 4 maps are quite terran favored in at least one of the matchups, while the other 3 are mostly fair. Aside from that it was a good tournament. Chobra is the best translator ever in esports, DoA and Monte Christo are awesome casters, and the production was very nice. Bo1 in Ro32 yes or no. Well OSL has allways been like this, but if you go with Bo1, you need to have a better mappool for sure! and issue with Fantasy/Rain in Ro16 was a big blunder by OGN, this HAS to be avoided in the future!

I retract this statement.
I feel it was more nerves and buckling under the pressure after Game 3 than anything :/. And Maru played really well when under pressure, kids got nerves of steel... plus some impeccable micro. Maru hardly made any mistakes... good scouting good army positioning good build choices.

He 4-0'd Innovation to get to this point and this thread is full of people calling it a fluke. Of course they're going to call this a fluke, too. Just laugh at them and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they're idiots.
you know. There were guys like you who told me that Sniper totally was going to get at least 5 gsls.
how foolish do you have to be to compare late-WoL Zerg titles to current championship wins?
Not foolish at all. Sniper was a fluke just like Jjakji or Seed. (and many other who made it to the finals and lost it, aka Genius, july, inca, Top, TsL_Rain). As you can see, those flukes happened through the entire history off SC2 and will happen again. Maru over performed, and he got kinda lucky with his opponents not playing up to their full potential. That does not take anything away from his victory, he deserves it, and deserves to be proud. He still will have to prove that he can hang with the best of 'em consistently.
Jjakji was not a fluke....how dare you call my favourite T a fluke!
he is one of my favorites. And he's still a fluke.

dont worry he'll be stomping foreign tournaments in no time.
truly makes me angry... this MASSIVELY incredible skill required game...
.. so hard to be the best at this game... takes so much mental fortitude sacrifice to be this good at sc2...
these dang dota players like dendi getting 150,000 stream watchers earlier today
maru deserves 300,000 stream watchers
maru could easily in about 5-6 weeks completely learn dota and perform at dendi's level.
dendi would never ever achieve anything near a ro16 in a korean starleague even with years of practice
im sure LoL / Dota players practice alot and that too takes sacrifice
i guess my point is... being good in sc2 shows i believe some other essence of the mind... a type of mental fortitude... you can practice for years and never get this good... its truly just an essence .... maybe a "god given skill" that you are simply born with and you can never train and i guess if you view it in that regard i guess its not as "impressive" in that regard because it would be like watching a 6foot dude beat up a 4feet tall dude... the 6foot guy was simply born with his natural innate abilities... no amount of training would allow the 4foot dude to win the fight... so i dont know i guess when i view it that way my belief that sc2 is a showing / competition of "something more" than just practice time might really downplay the greatness of winning a OSL because really your just winning with your innate natural talents that no one can train to achieve. Of course you need to train harder than everyone else and combine that training with your god given talent to win, i guess my point was someone without the god given talent will never be able to beat someone with the god given talent who trains alot, no matter how much the person without the god given talent tries.
i dont know what the hell im saying lol... but dayum its fun to watch
too bad more people dont realize the impressiveness of it
i and 30,000 ppl just saw a boy wonder become champion of a incredible test of mental power....
but 150,000 people watched dendi throw hooks with pudge earlier today
but i guess i shouldnt be so sad... i think the last MLG sc2 numbers topped out at 100,000 for some of the high profile games so... i guess maybe im overreacting a little everyone is asleep now

yeah no doubt about that. People read stuff like fluke and think: "Well he was good and now hes terrible oh my god". But actually it just means that he couldn't play close to the level he played during his championship run. JJakji was a fringe code s player the whole time, who managed to string a awesome tournament run together, due to his excellent understanding of the TvP/TvZ meta at that very moment in time. Things like that exist and make the game more enjoable. Otherwise we would have a whole lot of Innovation v. Rain/Soulkey/Flash finals. I just think it's funny that people see maru winning a big tournament and conclude that he must be top 3 players in the world right now.

It was leagues above the first sc2 OSL. Very enjoyable season overall.
The ro32 was still stupid, not just because of bo1 but also because the map order was the same for every group. Though we DID end up with some cool games still, and we DID get a lot of the more deserving players advancing overall (at least imo).
The ro16, however was a complete turnaround. Personally, I like the round-robin format with 1 series from each group more. Granted, there's a certain loss of hype when an entire group isn't played on a single day, but the pros outweigh the cons here.
Chobra is the MAN! I loved the interviews after the games (bonus points for having Barbie there <3).
I hated Anaconda and hope to never see that map again. Gwangalli was beautiful, but doesn't seem like a particularly good map gameplay-wise. I think they should retire that one immediately as well. I DO give them credit for trying to be different though and wisely not implementing the maps until the ro16.
Doe and Monte were indeed an unexpectedly good pair. I still choose Tastosis during the live cast, but I'd go back and watch the vods too for them.
Again great season, but GSL is still better imo.
Hell, the question is not who is best caster, the question is which idiots are responsible for osl and gsl to compete during same tournament, broadcasttimes etcetc. Its a toxic situation as i see it.
i hate the double broadcast, hate leads to anger and anger leads fear and fear leads from artosiscurse to the darkside.. fuck diz shit im going home!

I am just shocked that Terran won games vs Protoss.
So happy for Maru though
Game 1: Rain wins NR20 macro game Game 2: Maru goes 1-1-1, rain deflects hellion drops and wins easily Game 3: Proxy 2rax, rain gets his stalker surrounded on the ramp, Maru wins Game 4: NR20 into Rain engaging in a choke with his templar and army clumped up, blanket EMPs and superior concave for maru wins Game 5: Rain tries 2-base immortal all in. Doesn't make enough sentries, lets Maru scout it and build 5 bunkers, Maru wins Game 6: Rain goes DT drop, does very little damage, Maru counter-attacks, Rain fights outside of nexus cannon range, Maru wins.
Pretty lackluster finals imo. Maru didn't play an interesting game(though any attempts at drop play were easily denied by Rain), and Rain just made poor decisions in the heat of the moment.
