I was thinking this would be the case again, but with Jaedong drawing JIM in the ro8...we really may not have any Zerg for the regionals. Though Vortix might also have a shot from EU with so much ZvP in his ro8. MMA is unlikely to make it far, TvP has always been his worst. If MMA plays anything like he did against Naniwa, he won't take a map off HasuObs. If finale beats Naniwa then he murders Vortix I think, his PvZ has always been super sharp and deadly. And then we finally (huehue) get to see finale vs HasuObs, the final (huehuehue) we deserve
HasuObs vs Grubby, Hasu winning 4-3, the final takes 7 hours to finish.

I would've never thought that Maru would make it. After his first appearances, Khaldor hyped him up like crazy (mainly due to his age), but I didn't want to jump on that wagon. Now, after several months, he's a legit GSL/WCS Kr champ. Good job, but now he truly has to show that he has what it takes to stay at the top!

Dota2 is the more fun game and its free to play, so the player base is 10x that of sc2 and will grow even bigger. A percentage of Gamers wants to see the best at their game compete, so they tune in to tournaments and streams. Bigger playerbase means bigger streamnumbers. Besides that, Blizzard is a company who treats their customers like shit, while Valve gives the impression to care. If you're going to use that logic then both Dota and SC2 are doomed. LoL and WoT will conquer both. They're both free and even easier to play than either game. I'm not into Dota, but what makes it harder to play than LoL? It's offtopic, but I'm interested to find out. I believe it takes a lot more mechanical skills to get to a decent-ish level in dota when compared to lol, dota is a really hard game to master if you don't limit yourself to a few heroes as every hero feels very different from another whilst most champions feel kinda the same (skillshots, skillshots everywhere), by that I mean that e.g iceiceice is probably 50 times better than someone like admiralbulldog considering how bulldog plays only 4-5 heroes when ice plays pretty much every hero at the highest level, with that said, if you limit yourself to a few basic-to-play heroes it will probably feel very similar to lol

So happy for Maru though Game 1: Rain wins NR20 macro game Game 2: Maru goes 1-1-1, rain deflects hellion drops and wins easily Game 3: Proxy 2rax, rain gets his stalker surrounded on the ramp, Maru wins Game 4: NR20 into Rain engaging in a choke with his templar and army clumped up, blanket EMPs and superior concave for maru wins Game 5: Rain tries 2-base immortal all in. Doesn't make enough sentries, lets Maru scout it and build 5 bunkers, Maru wins Game 6: Rain goes DT drop, does very little damage, Maru counter-attacks, Rain fights outside of nexus cannon range, Maru wins. Pretty lackluster finals imo. Maru didn't play an interesting game(though any attempts at drop play were easily denied by Rain), and Rain just made poor decisions in the heat of the moment. thanks a lot, and well about the series being lackluster, TvP hots is probably the most boring match-up ever to watch (and play) in the history of RTS and there's a reason why I did not wake up early to watch it.

Its a much, much more complex and diverse game. I really would know where to start explaining it, but mechanically its leaps and bounds ahead. LoL heroes play moreorless the same, with a few exceptions, where as each Dota heroes is very individualised, with their own attack animations. Dota heroes in general have a much more varied skill set, so playing each one is drastically different than playing others.
In regards to the original quote, the guy writing it clearly has no knowledge of Dota whatsoever. I won't deny that the skill cap for SC2 is probably the highest of any game in the world, but that by no means makes it it a great game to play, nor does it make it a great viewer experience. Personally, I think SC2 has suffered severally because of over-saturation, and Blizzards inability to look at the big picture. Where as, the way that Valve has progressed Dota has been masterful, and they're reaping the rewards of the great foundation they've built.
Saying that Maru could be as good as Dendi in 6 week is absolutely absurd, and shows how little he knows about Dota. Select, while obviously not being on Maru's level, tried to make the transition, was immediately put in a team environment, practised quite heavily in a team house for several months, and he was still unable to play at a professional knowledge. With all due respect to him, he didn't understand the game well enough, nor were his mechanics to a level where he could compete with the best.
Going back to what I said about skill cap, SC2's is so high partly due to it being a 1v1 game. There is no one to blame by yourself, thus it is easier to identify your fault and correct them. SC2 pro's are as good as they are because they iron out all of the tiny kinks in their play. The only person responsible for their performance is themselves.
Whereas, with Dota, you have the element of Teamwork that completely changes things. There is less emphasis on how you perform as an individual, and more on how you perform your role as part of a team. Don't get me wrong, Dota 2 requires you to have a very high level of skill as an individual, however, you'll never get people cutting corners and irons out tiny deficiencies to the level of Korean SC2 players, because its simply not as important.

Maybe for you lol, most boring MU in RTS history is being hyperbolic anyways. Not even worst mu in wol/hots, WoL PvZ ZvZ PvP were bad, and hots PvZ can be pretty bad. Hellbat TvT, though not boring, was ridiculous and dumb.

you've never played DOTA at an acceptable level. while I agree that RTS games are more demanding and should get more attention (then again I'm convinced that SC2 deserves to be left behind for a lot of design-related reasons), I think you should educate yourself before making such extreme statements

Its a much, much more complex and diverse game. I really would know where to start explaining it, but mechanically its leaps and bounds ahead. Dota 2 and the community is an absolute joke when blatant exploits like in Na'Vi vs. TongFu game 3 are considered acceptable and a viable strategy. Two low level heroes being able to one shot a max level carry with full items and Aegis is considered allright and even cool. It's a community where taking advantage of every bug or design failure is considered an achievement and a merit. Na'Vi have actually perfected the use of the bug exploit with their timings and the way the entire team starts pre-emptively falling back when they're trying it so that they don't get jumped on 5v4. I'm sure a lot of people started playing Dota 2 after seeing last night's games at TI3, but likewise a lot of people were completely turned off from the game as a whole. I found it disgusting.
The balance in Starcraft 2 might be poor and it has all sorts of issues with volatility but atleast the wins are honest and even the dumbest cheese rushes both have a very high chance of failure and most importantly aren't based on bugged game design. We don't have threads discussing whether Maru beat Rain by cheating.
