I think JDs decision to continue producing and deny the third wasnt a bad idea; it almost worked out even though he lost a lot of hydras to colossus. Going back and trying to tech would surely trigger stats to move out and walk all over the middle, sending jaedong back to a 2base economy vs 3. At that point, getting vipers wouldnt have helped much. I think the biggest error was assuming it was a 2base play, forcing him to go corruptor rather than muta or tech to viper. (it looked like he assumed that anyway)

Remember in BW, he even babysit every zergling extremely careful. But now, 10 hydras, no problem, take it. He did well enough that the only problem was his lack of his lack of knowledge on unit compositions (which can be fixed easily). Again, both Artosis (Protoss) and Catz (Zerg) both agreed that you should never go spire/corruptors anymore against Protoss (especially if they have a Stargate already) to counter Colossus (you can go corruptors if you already have a spire [from Mutalisk] and need something quick, or if they're going carrier/tempest). Going to Infestation Pit > Hive > Viper is much superior. For the price of 2-3 Vipers (especially if they have no HT at all), you can counter the Colossus much easier than Corruptors (especially if you have a ton of Hydralisk already). It's much safer than investing into Corruptors. Edit - Jaedong had plenty of chance to do this (he was on 4 base against 2 base at one point). Even if he lost his middle gold base (going infestation pit [50 seconds] to hive [100 seconds] is only 50 seconds slower than a spire [100 seconds]), he still had way more supply (he could have sacked the third). Even then, it didn't seem likely that going for Vipers would have cost him the middle base (Protoss had only a few units until the very end). On the bright side, Jaedong played really well. I just hope he learns the new unit compositions to use in HotS.

But if such a battle was doable in WoL, assuming a larger army for the zerg, it is even harder in HotS due to the VRs melting corruptors. However if the Zerg can get Vipers then suddenly they counter the protoss so hard it's not funny. There is literally nothing you can do against vipers without HTs.

I suppose a better way to put it is that SC2 is just so punishing and rather than the opponent being able to catch up via skill, it takes a blunder (or many) from the other person for them to come back. Basically, there are not enough avenues of skill available for players to come back on their own.

even assuming jaedong's strategic decisions were correct, he kept throwing army units away needlessly

I duno man. In this assumed context, and since shady has a KT rolster flair, it would be a tad far-fetched to assume that he wants EG-TL to lose every time, and not just today. And don't wut me. That's the same thing, at least for today.

It's much safer than investing into Corruptors. If Artosis knows it, Jaedong certainly knows that too. He got tricked thinking it's a 2 bases allin, there goes the faster corruptors choice. But even with that combination, he doesn't need to constantly throw 5-10 hydras for basically nothing, he still got plenty of time to tech up.
