No, it is just an error, if you look at it again it has 8 matches which means that it is the ro16. The quarterfinals are tomorrow according to the schedule on mlg's homepage.

Man the TeamLiquid times are one hour off for Sydney Australia. MLG starts in an hour but it lists it as starting now.

I really really hope I wont need to keep hand on volume button of my speakers for ENTIRE day as yesterday. From barely hearing anything to HYSTERICAL shouting of grown up men. Its unbelievably annoyng to need to turn down the volume by A LOT anytime something starts to happen. Also embarassing. I wish I could enjoy games without getting a heartattack and waking up/disturbing half of my area.
Otherwise great tournament and I am looking forward to see todays matches.

This is probably the first MLG where i was legitimately wishing for a losers bracket with extended series. having a single elimination tournament right after a new expansion is released and players arent too familiar with all the new units and builds dont make much sense, since good players are likely to lose and get knocked out early because of some wierd timing builds they havent seen before. In a double elimination format you would be able to see these players adapt to that sort of jazz and have potential for some epic comebacks once a player finally figures out how to beat the build or unit composition that knocked him down in the first place.
TLDR: this is the first major hots tournament after HOTS release. players havent figured out the new units yet and there are tons of "cheap" timings out there that top tier players simply have not seen before. cut the players some slack, make it double elemination so we dont have to see fan favourites and top tier players get knocked out because of some new cute timing push that someone just invented. it would be much more fun and educating to watch if they got a second chance to come up with some answer and make an epic comeback against the odds of extended series. Also, mirror matches between some of the best players in the world is the last thing i want to see when a new expansion is out and everybody wants to see how the matchups and meta-game has changed.
In theory your post makes sense, but honestly, I didn't see any "cheap" timings completely catch their opponents off guard. In fact, in almost all of the one-sided matches, the player who lost was the one who had been preparing more, not less, for HotS. And none of those series were really won on the back of the opponent responding incorrectly to an unconventional build. I would say that in every case the better player won. Besides, coming up with unconventional builds to catch an opponent off guard is normally something that is applauded, not looked down upon. The BFH builds against zerg at MLG Anaheim (I think) for example.

He is literally revolutionizing the 'way to play' Zerg before our very eyes, and I don't doubt that the strategy he employed today vP, and the new strategies and ways of playing Z he will show us today and perhaps (hopefully ^^) tomorrow, will see widespread use soon enough and probably even become the norm. It's quite amazing to witness, actually. If you're a Z-player, Leenock is the guy whose play you want to study and replicate. Hyun actually posted this on Leenock's personal Facebook page after his games today: 연기 신동&천재 이동녕군 which translates to: "Acting prodigy and genius, Dongnyoung (Leenock's name)." Be sure not to miss his games today. Thanks for the post, im proud of leenock!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOGOGOGOOGOGO LEENOCK!

The games vs MKP yesterday were impressive! He won a GSL during the Gom TvT era. He was known for cheese play like proxy marauders. He fell into Code B once the timings were figured out and as patches made Terran less absurdly imba. Huh. No. His proxy marauder build was devised by his then-teammate Sage and used only once in GSL, iirc. But then again, considering your statement that the queen patch simply made Terran "less absurdly imba", I am not sure that you are not just trolling.

you are right, i should have made clear that i was refering to previous beta tournaments incidents (played on the same patch thought) such as Ret vs MC (i dont think MC saw that SH push coming, and even if he scouted it and knew what was on the way he would probably not been able to come up with a proper response unless he was already going down that tech route) and other notable examples where i dont remember the specific player/stream but the "fake" spire tech>speedling roach all in before storm that ive seen on streams multiple times. Even early stargate Oracle cheese builds seem to still work on a fairly high level if you proxy it well or just hide/spread out the oracles until its time to strike and manage to deny scouting or fake a robo opening.
now i know im not being very specific and that the builds im talking about might be figured out and dead already, but thats kinda my point. the game is in such an early phase, there is alot of potential for metagaming/mindgaming your opponant and coming up with cheese builds for specific opponants that noone else has really thought about before and will only really work once. we saw this a lot in the begining of WoL. After such a major makeover to the game that includes small changes to virtually everything except the most basic structures and units, the metagame is rightfully quite shaky, so there is always the potential of someone losing to something silly/wierd. It might be that the pro gamers have already things under total control and know whats going on from the 00.00 to GG, i dont know, but pretty recently that was not really the case.
remember when tyler crushed every Z out there simply cause he figured out he could use phoenix to lift up queens? or when incontrol revolutionized PvZ with his sentry expand into pressure build? now i have nothing against this, i love seeing SC2 history being written right in front of my eyes and the perception of a matchup change completley based on one series, i just think that if someone went all the way from eastern europe or korea to participate in a tournament and then lose to something that they rightfully could not prepare for because noone knew you could do that before (im not saying this will happen, just in theory), they deserve a second chance in double elimination, wich would also make it entertaining to watch how this player tries to figure out how to respond to what he just experienced.

Man theres gotta be a lot of pressure on stephano now, it would be pretty sad if foreigners simply went 0 - X in series against korea and i feel like everyone is looking at him to sort of set things straight and carry our flag. with "our flag" literary meaning every country in the world except for that rather small piece of land called South Korea that thanks to E-sports and PSY is slowly becming the new global superpower. Its gotta feel tough, but then again Stephano seems to not overthink these things and just get into his booth, put on his headset and play the game as if he was sittting at home in his pyjamas, eating Ben and Jerry's to the ambient noise of some Two and a Half men rerun buzzing from his TV set on the wall behind him. Maybe he can mentally transport himself to this Boyroom of Solitude whenever and wherever he wants and thereby completley seal of any nerves or outside pressure.
If this is indeed the case and not just my wild imagination trying to paint an insultingly romantic image of a young man with a special talent and the world at his feet, i would defeinitely pay him for some kind of cognitive behavioural therapy coaching to learn the secret.
