Out of curiosity who of those who won't be attending do you think really would've had a shot at making top 16 or so? I wish there was an open bracket too but other than some of the weaker NA players invited the invites are all pretty solid. I suppose more Koreans?

Well now, let's see. I'm on Quantic, and guess how many of our players got invited? Well, 1, but he turned down the invite.
Of those not invited that REALLY surprise me: Hyun (for obvious reasons) and Hwangsin (7/8'th at MLG Dallas. Really not at least invited to showmatch?).
For me it hits home hard, considering all of the work that I have put into HOTS over the past month and a half. Some of the players invited have yet to even download the game - and yet there they are, playing in an invitational.
But then again, I'm not going to continue on. What's done is done - and while I would love it for MLG to do a late open bracket (online) where ~4-8 qualify, its not going to happen. So, go IPL!

Unfortunately one of the major downsides to starcraft 2 at this point is the lack of a proper ranking system due to how tournaments are structured as of this point. When I am watching tennis for example, you have a good idea where everyone stands with their ranking but starcraft 2 has some real issues that need to be addressed.
Hopefuly this will be fixed in the upcoming years so players are picked based on their results instead of a seemingly random qualification process. Many players on the NA list are extremely good and deserve to be there but on the other hand several of the choices feel very weak.
And it's completely besides the point that it is highly likely NA or EU players will lose to a Korean in the main bracket. Arbitrary invite lists are detrimental to up and comers who had a solid chance in a qualifying tournament but aren't necessarily a household name.

Has the ticket price always been this high at the dallas venue? My favorite thing about MLG Orlando was the extremely cheap ticket $20 ticket prices. Of course I would still pay the 35$ but 50$ at the door is harsh and I hope people can get their tickets in advance.

If you follow tennis, you also know that there are plenty of wild-cards given to players based on criteria other than "place on ATP/WTA ranking-list".

There's a time and place to voice your concerns with MLG and how they run their events. This isn't the place for that. It ruins the mood for people who want to get excited for an event to have upset people putting a damper on every OP MLG makes on TL. They have a delightful website with representatives that I'm sure are willing to listen to well though out criticisms from those who feel the need to speak up.

Yes, it was $20.00 several years ago; however, the spectator passes for the past few years have been $35.00 (and still are ONLINE). However, door prices will now be $50.00.

Curious as to how you rated them and if the public would be able to see those 'internal' rankings. Something like this would be a value add to fans of MLG.

It will only introduce more drama. What's done is done - I made the mistake of trying to argue and unarguable situation, when it is best just to move on.
Accept what has happened - I think MLG realizes that the community heavily dislikes this format of invite-only, so we can only hope that the rest of the MLGs won't be the same.
ahh.. im not trying to start drama..im just curious. I am a huge rankings/stats fan.. always interested in how orgs come up with their rankings.
Of course the only accurate tournament ranking system is www.esportranks.com
I just have to get it updated to reflect all of 2012 and the upcoming 2013 events. So much to do.. so little time
I will say though.. in agreement that 'invite' events are not healthy for growth in eSports... but MLG has a business to run and their model is about supporting their brand. You are right about just having to accept it and move on.

Also what are gold memberships good for now? as the stream is free, and the 10$ discount on championship competitor passes isnt being honored as there isnt a competition to compete in. Despite being a championship in the category.

Remember that they will be playing HoTS. The meta for zergs has changed quite a bit and mass ling will no longer work hellbats plus medivacs drops are tough to deal with. And PartinG is still focused on WoL due to GSL.
Deadline to book your hotel room is fast approaching. There are numerous other conventions at the same time, so make sure you book ASAP before they are all sold out.
Deadline to book at the Adolphus in the MLG block is in just 2 days.

No chance of going to MLG though, a bit too far. Have fun ya'll who plan on going!

Sc2 VIP is almost sold out. Just over 10 left.
Mind answering how many there were to begin with?
Also, if you are reserving with the Adolphus, you have to give them a call, as their website will say that they are full and unavailable. (last checked 10 days ago).
Parking will be $26 x 2 ($52 for both nights) which is steep, and tipping the valet will only make it worse.
I have budgeted out $800 for this trip altogether (driving) and am a bit worried about the lack of open bracket, and this being my first MLG, I hope that the experience will be the same or better than previous MLGs.
MLG this looks sick, I can't wait for this tournament. Also if its not too late please try to come back to the Northeast like you did with Providence last year, I want to go again but with a VIP pass this time ^.^
Reminder: General Admission Spectator Passes at the door will be $50. The passes will be available online for $35.00 until Thursday, March 14th at 11:59 PM.

So, go IPL!

So next time MLG makes a decision the fans don't like, we'll just shut up and let things be.
The guy obviously has a personal vendetta.
Invite only tournaments are going to happen sometimes and undoubtedly someone's favorite will be left out, they can't invite everyone. Deal with it.

Although it isn't my favorite format all the time, I'm pretty pumped for a big single elimination bracket.
No talk of extended series, just straight up win or go home.
Again, I wouldn't want this every tournament but it will be fun to see what these guys come up with on the spot knowing that you have to get off the plane ready to go or your tournament is over. Should be a great event.
So excited to be going to my first MLG event! I've got my bracket to fill out =). I'll also be writing an article about the event for Examiner.com to get the word out - yay, eSports!

I guess it is not a professional or necessary way to handle such stuff openly by a gaming league (which by the way wants to go mainstream). What kind of employee does that to its league?

Little confusing the way that is set up. It shouldn't be read top 2, it should be 2nd. Not top 4, but 3-4. At least that is what i assume since I am pretty sure life has a higher than 13% chance of catching his flight to Dallas.
On March 14 2013 08:03 Qikz wrote: How is Flash only at 2% to win? I'm confused how you've worked that out :p
Because Flash isn't that high up on that ranking system, largely because he hasn't played against all that many great players, plays a lot in Proleague against not very high ranking people and doesn't always win. He's still quite high up in that list.
I just got a HD Code for MLG. Anyone knows why? I have not paid anything and I there was no transaction from my account or PayPal (of that I am sure, because it's one day before paycheck and I don't even have 1€ there :D). I am not complaining, just wondering why I got it

I also got one and was wondering the same. I did have like a full year gold membership (or something of that kind) last year so maybe it's connected to that in some way.
Yeah I just was able to navigate the mlg site and it says my gold membership ends on March 24, 2013. You probably have something similar, I had completely forgot about it.

lol indeed, I am the same. I completely forgot that I paid for gold membership year ago and I just checked the page and it says 'Your membership term ends on May 06, 2013.'

Be realistic, 90% of the viewers would replace Hwangsin for Flash any day. Hyun not being invited is too bad, but he doesn't have a lot of stardust either.
