1. They need money 2. They need something to entertain the subscribers
With JD , Revival and Stephano available, I wonder why they open with Zenio Revival is well rounded to play vs any race, better choice imo Then you use JD if you need ZvZ snipe, or Stephano if you need a ZvT or a ZvP snipe (assuming you want to field a Zerg, obv)

100 Commercial spam doesn't help if they "need money". It's really just an annoyance.

I guess they thought STX would open with a Zerg. Zenio's ZvZ is better then Revivals imo.

Yeah but we know Zenio can be great and has probably been preparing.for this quite a while. I also think its important to play a variety of players from your team to show loyalty and confidence. Plus bogus isn't scary lately so Zenio could pay off.
Haven't seen zenio play for quite some time, pretty surprising opening. I'd like to have seen revival first, cause he's strong and really well rounded.

Hell, who wouldn't want a fat check and an organization that has no strict practice schedule, and that couldn't give 2 shits about if you win or lose as long as you wear their logo, make some tweets, and do a commercial or two.
Those Koreans on EG that you're talking about actually have a very strict practice schedule (much more so than in our NA house). They are not allowed to live in the house unless they commit 8 hours a day to training. They have designated break times, designated practice partner times, designated free play time (i.e. streaming), and do all of this seven days a week.
In addition to that, our Korean coach (Trot) tracks the hours they spend practicing and reports those hours to our GM daily. He also evaluates the players every other day with our GM in a personal manner. From reporting about Proleague matches, to discussing roster draws, to informing our management of any additional needs or suggestions from our players, the conversation between our Korea house and our core management is ongoing.
So no, I'd say we have quite the practice schedule and that we do "give two shits about winning or losing."

I spent 2 weeks in Korea and lost about 8 pounds. Its extremely difficult not to lose weight. You pretty much have to go out of your way to eat shitty in Korea. And the fact that you ride a bus and/or walk to most places keeps you active. Naniwa lost a lot of weight in Korea.

What the hell is that supposed to mean. That's a pretty inappropriate comment.
If you've been to Korea, you'd understand. An extremely small portion of the Korean population is even remotely overweight. The Western world, particularly North America (which mexico is a part of) is wayyyyyy more commonly fat. Even 30% somewhat overweight, which is really conservative, is a huge difference compared to Korea. As such, North America is known for being overweight in Korean culture.

I feel like Zenio is a very bad starter for allkill format. His chances of getting multiple kills are very very small. It would have been much better to use him as a ZvZ sniper if necessary later on, no?
This may be kind of ignorant but... the coaching of EG-TL.. I don't get it.
Just a 1 min research and I am really confused.
Okay so the first player you send out should pereferably be a player that is balanced in all matchups cause you do not know which race he will play against. Taking a quick look at Zenio's TLO record he got, ZvP 68.85%, ZvZ 52.05% and ZvT 44.79% win record.
So first is Zenio far from evenly balanced through the matchups. Second it is Antiga shipyard. Not exactly a zerg map, rather is it considered to be one of the best terran maps. Therefor a terran is the most likely opponent. Which Zenio has a 44.79% win ratio against.
So am I missing something or did EG-TL potentially pick their worst possible starting player.... is their coach an idiot or am I missing something?

Are those numbers from his International TLPD? These are his korean win rates All: 71-81 (46.71%) | vT: 28-41 (40.58%) | vZ: 28-14 (66.67%) | vP: 15-26 (36.59%) | but yea like people said he might look really good in practice and some of these numbers can be pretty outdated since they go pretty far back and we rarely see Zenio play tournament games these days since he's not in GSL

So first is Zenio far from evenly balanced through the matchups. Second it is Antiga shipyard. Not exactly a zerg map, rather is it considered to be one of the best terran maps. Therefor a terran is the most likely opponent. Which Zenio has a 44.79% win ratio against.
So am I missing something or did EG-TL potentially pick their worst possible starting player.... is their coach an idiot or am I missing something?

the coach knows more than you. zenio might be very good at zvt in practice now or something like that.
Right, that's why he's been winning all of those zvts.
Being good in practice doesn't mean shit if you've proven time and time again that you choke in that matchup on stage.

I find it hard to believe he has that good win rate. Don't trust TLPD for everything. Anitga shipyard isn't a good map for TvZ apparently there too. :D
but they really shouldn't field Zenio, that I agree. he is a league below everyone in the team along with puma right now

People always say stuff like this, but it's also possible that the coach both knows more than we do, and is really bad at picking players.

Well I would hope so. Did´nt really look like it in the match though. Looked like he kinda sucked in ZvT, which his pretty long TLO ranking also suggest.

Oh man 5 stalkers lost to those marines was unacceptable. Holy shit that was like gold level micro there. He could have lost if the last 2 stalkers were dead right there.
That was the worst game ever to read from LR only >.< four heart attacks in a row or something. JYP should be in good position now though with innovation down.
People hating on JYP way too much. It wasn't embarrassing. It wasn't perfect. Innovation micro'd it perfectly. People take every imperfection of JYP and make it sound like he's a joke. If MC made that hold, people would be screaming boss toss right now.

JYP does a lot of questionable shit. I mean, it's not nearly as bad as Puma, but just like right there when he should have been able to easily hold that, he nearly managed to lose with a huge lead.

He was headbutting his stalkers to the marines without attacking ffs.
I cannot believe people are bashing JYP for beating that cheese. So, his micro wasn't perfect ... who cares, he got the win. If I was in that situation my micro wouldn't be at my best because my heart would have been going a mile a minute. Hell, my heart was going a mile a minute watching that match, more less playing!
Also... Why so much JYP hate? I might be wrong now after all kill, but JYP's proleague record was way better than HerO's in round one. He is definitely positive if I'm not mistaken (someone check for me please?) so why so much hate?

3 to 4 stalkers vs just six marines should be a one sided fight at this level of play. You shouldn't nearly lose the game
does anyone remember how TheBest all in went in the super tournament? I know it ended up with like the 3rd or 4th pull all your scvs with thors and a banshee at the end but did it start with a 2 rax vs min? That's probably the longest going all in I can remember in sc2.

I will try to explain. There are limits. I didn't even see JYP getting out of the booth. I want to see him with his teammates right after the match. I don't care about the youtube videos that I can watch at any given time. But GG LET'S SPAM COMMERCIAL FOR 5 MINUTES is kind annoying.

I watched the vod of that the other day for some reason and I have to emphasize how AWFUL Wolf was at casting. Considering how awesome he is now that gives me hope for Whiplash and SNM.

All casters have to start somewhere and even the worst casters can turn into great casters with enough dedication. Sure, Proleague is not really a place that should be a proving ground but whatever, they will improve either way

A 400 mineral difference from a nexus can be compensated for with forcefields, giving you time to cancel and move back. Phoenix eliminates the possibility. 400 minerals is like 2 zealots and 2 stalkers. Just can't do that, especially on a 2 forcefield ramp.
Poor JYP. Dude just looks devastated every time he looses. He wants to carry so bad, always seems like he looses in such harsh ways. 'm guessing his opponents see this as well and thats why he keeps getting hit with all in's and ling run-bys.

if you want to complain about commercials, ad free is REALLY REALLY cheap. If you won't pay 5$ for it, don't complain. Mute stream or close it like this guy says, easy fix. Although like some people said, even wolf and khaldor (and even tastosis) weren't that great when they started.

Sure Wolf/Khaldor weren't that great when they started, but GOM also made it easier to like them by not tilting everyone with ridiculous commercial spam and actually showing them on stream. :-P

No idea, but he should have tried anyway. That was his only chance to win the game, and three DTs sitting around his cannon would have been enough to defend it from anything.
Hero could have won if he hold position his DTs not within range of the cannons just enough so that the stalkers can slowly kite and if they come too close, the DTs would swipe them
hero could have won if he somehow killed the stalkers. He would just be able to out micro the DTs and probes and eventually killed the pylon. It wouldn't be *too* hard since it was 2v2 stalkers. If you notice he was targeting a stalker during his first attack on the pylon, not bum rushing the pylon. I'm sure he was thinking the same
On January 26 2013 17:01 Daray wrote: Do you think hero could've killed the pylon if he just sacced his stalkers before?
I'm pretty sure he can do it, but there's possibility that there's DT nearby which HerO can't see. With DTs, those stalkers prolly won't make it though.

Can't really do that with enemy DTs right there and no way to detect them.

So polite. Quoting "lag" as the reason you don't want to watch twitch.
Hero could have won...if he had brought his sentry and force fielded off the choke. Just shoot for 3 seconds and then ff before any units can get there. Although he would have risked his sentry if he had been caught in the open I think he could have still held against the dts back home.

Stephano would be bad to send out. He probably isn't used to the maps and more importantly, he wouldn't want to reveal any tricks he's saving for GSL later this week.
Stephano not playing today isn't surprising at all. He is not in the lineup for monday match in round 3. He probably focus on his next GSL match next week. EGTL did the same with JD when he had to play Up & Down
On January 26 2013 17:20 anrimayu wrote: I guess EGTL doesn't want to win today, sending these guys out instead of JD n Steph.
Revival is more consistent than both of them. No idea what you're talking about.
Revival is solid. I meant using JYP and Zenio instead.
They need play too, and I'm guessing EGTL thought STX to be a less than top opponent. They paid.
But really, teams with long bench do not use always the same top 4 players, they prefer to mix it up and let their strong guys rest some. Even team like KT would not actually use Flash in absolutely every match.
On January 26 2013 17:27 PviLLe3 wrote: missed last couple games, what does OP mean by draw, what happened?
Liquipedia explains it pretty well. Good summary from the person who put it
The 4th match between Dear and HerO was played twice, after the first game ended in a draw. Both players went for Dark Templar builds and destroyed each other's Nexus, however defensive Cannons were erected and the referees called a draw before the in-game Stalemate Detection could come into effect.
On January 26 2013 17:27 PviLLe3 wrote: missed last couple games, what does OP mean by draw, what happened?
Both players went proxy DT rush and killed the enemy's nexus. Both then built a forge and some cannons, as neither had enough to build a new nexus, and just kinda sat until the KeSPA ref paused and called for a regame. Hero was poking at Dear's pylon with stalkers, but didn't manage to kill it.

It would have been a lot better to use Jaedong instead of Zenio. I also dislike how they're not using Thorzain -at all-.
Come on, look how sad Zenio is in this gif from last week because he isn't getting sent out. Have a heart. + Show Spoiler +
Oh man, that gif is actually heart breaking. Zenio doesn't seem happy at all lately. I think losing so much is really getting to him. His record in SPL is pretty atrocious...
I'm not really surprised stephano isn't playing, if they wanted him to play it would have made much more sense playing him instead of hero (which they should have done ffs).

Well, to be fair:
Stephano: Has not actually played a Code S match yet (first is on Feb. 1st) Stephano: Extremely weak in ZvZ, so vulnerable to a sniper Stephano: Only practiced PL maps for a short time compared to the rest of EG-TL
Stephano might have been the better choice to kick out Dear but Revival has the better chance to actually win 3 games.

Incoming comments about Revival being a bad choice and how Stephano would have been able to do it etc, etc,. Revival's an incredible player but having the pressure of ace seems really awful. Makes me appreciate JYP a lot more actually.

The only way EG-TL can win is if Huk, Thorzain, Zenio, and Puma are removed from the roster so they're forced to put out their best players all the time even if it's predictable. Too many free wins on the team that get way too many opportunities because the coaches want to be nice and fair.

What do you mean it was a terrible decision? I can't believe people look over how well Revival has been playing lately. He's been on par with those two if not better and he's been kicking ass since he debuted in SPL.
Team EG-TL have the best players. Taeja, Jaedong, Stephano, Hero... They should be in the top 3 easily. But no... The coach sends Zenio, JYP and Revival over Jaedong and Stephano. I mean, come on...... I just don't get it. This isn't the first time something like this happens. Maybe the coach bet a lot of money on his team losing.......... Just frustrating to see such incompetence.........
On January 26 2013 17:48 Meggiroth wrote: Fire that coach and EG-TL wins everything. Even the players by themselves would make better decisions between themselves on who to go on the field.
So you're saying Stephano, Jaedong and Taeja is enough to win 100% games, since no one else is allowed to play basically. Seeing as soon as either JYP, Revival, Puma is sent out it's a bad choice.

On paper is not that bad. Jaedong is kinda bad at ZvP. Stephano has a priority on GSL code S. Revival is the second best Zerg in the team behind Stephano.

Sending hero instead of stephano on Entombed Valley was really the worst decision imo. especially considering dear was send out against a toss, you'd expect him being condident in that matchup. zenio as starter was also kind of strange.
You put all your best players all the time in the beginning, and you're fucked in the latter half of the season bc everyone's figured out your tactics and players.
Just coast by and make sure you can get into postseason, then you can pull out your big guns more frequently.

agree with this, it becomes impossible for some players to be taken out from the depths of EGTL rooster

Genuinely curious, I can't follow SC2 other than reading the occasional LR thread now and then.
STX havent been performing at all, since they are at last spot, but I myself still feel that they do have some depth in their roster, I think they can catch up later on

The problem with EG-TL is that 1.) They don't have really deep practice partner. 2.) They put priority more in individual league than team league (GSL, which is a better choice since foreign audience regard Code S a lot more than PL). 3.) Their best player is out because of injury.
So yeah, the roster is quite fairly thin right now.

KT fields Flash, Stats, Wooki and Action almost every match SKT always goes with Rain, Fantasy, Soo, Paralyze, Best STX -> Bogus, Hyvaa, Dear, Last are mainstays Khan => Jangbi, Roro, Stork, Reality
Why the f*ck can't EG-TL field Stephano-Jaedong-Hero (and Taeja when he's healed) every match?

The problem with EG-TL is their Terran depth. Correct me if I'm wrong but normal pro league format (not all kill) requires you to put out at least one player from each race in the lineup. With Taeja out for at least round 3 this means Puma or Thorzain has to be sent out for every match. I think the Taeja injury will be the beginning of the end for EG-TL unless Puma and/or Thorzain step it up.

Its hard to go down with Stephano and JD both sitting a match out.
IMHO questioning the coaching is justified based on not using either of your top players. Proleague matters.....we needs wins, not just stage and TV appearances for everyone.
I don't care whats happening in practice. JD is a proven PL legend and Stephano has won more big stage events than every non-korean combined. One, or both, of them need to play.

EG-TL didn't have a bad day, they had a bad coach with horribly stupid decisions.
I'm sick already of bashing him, he screws over the team almost every week with decisions like these. JYP in ace , Revival Ace , not to mention fielding Puma in previous weeks and other fails. I was so hyped for EG-TL thinking I'd be seeing Hero Taeja Stephano and Jaedong own kespa and instead I get to see the worst players in the roster sent out in the worst situations every week. I didn't like any of the player choices: Zenio vs Anyone is just bad. I don't get why the dude is on roster, his play is far from solid and he looks like he's asleep everytime the camera is on him
JYP is an incredibly shaky player... Every time I watch him play it looks like he could make the game ending mistake at any point. Save my nerves and keep him off the roster.
HerO I actually like as a player, but STX Soul chose Dear to fight JYP so he's probably their PvP specialist. Why send a protoss against him?
Revival is actually a very solid player, good against all the races so I kinda get why they chose him as the ace (I think him and JD are about equal in skill and Stephano prolly wants to keep his strats hidden since he's playing in code S soon). I still would've hoped for Stephano, while Revival is solid, Stephano is amazing. 3-kills are a possibility for Revival but it would've been more likely with Stephano I feel.
EGTL's coach is so soooo bad. EGTL have the calibre of players that they should no question be top 3. Instead they are currently 6th and they just lost to by far the worst team who had only won 1 in their previous 6 matches!
Every one of the coach's picks was bad, every one. I could analyze in detail why each was a bad pick but the results speak for themselves. 1-4 against the worst team in the league with players like stephano watching from the bench unused. I am speechless.
By the way I wonder what all the people who thought Revival was a better pick than Stephano to three-kill have to say now? I actually think Revival is a good player but he is a choker under pressure. He said himself when he was interviewed he cracked under pressure after his last ace loss. Stephano has played and won in countless finals, he clearly thrives under pressure. You're the coach and you know this...and you pick Revival?!
I would say it's quite obvious the reason they chose not to play him. Stephano has his code S match next week, so they are preparing him full time for the Code S. Yeah, PL is important for EG-TL but I doubt they view it as important as Code S (which a lot more foreign fans watch it).

Well, Bogus/Innovation is in Stephano's group in GSL. He played, he won, his team won.
Maybe that will hurt him in GSL, maybe it won't. Clearly STX wanted their proleague win more that EG/TL because they didn't let that be a factor.
Stephano is streaming dozens of games everyday. I don't see how a few more televised matches would hurt him.

EG-TL is there to win, right? If they were in such bad position (been led 3-1) why not send the best players still available? In all seriousness, I wouldn't be so disappointed about EG-TL if Stephano or JD were the choice for ace, at least I'll know that they did their best (EG-TL). Revival is a good player nonetheless (SKT1 - EG-TL) , but when you don't have any room to afford another loss , you send the big guns.
I think we're being harsh about the lineup. Jyp and zenio are solid choices. I mean they have to show ROI somehow and JYP atleast seems to have done better than we think.
HerO is an emminently solid pick. I would say HerO, revival and JD are all the same tier of strength for EGTL. Stephano obviously needs to prep for his Code S run. Taeja needs to recover.
I love that everybody just non-stop criticizes the coaches on EG-TL as if they know exactly what matchups/maps the players have prepared for this week. Proleague has a huge element of preparation by having various players practice specific matchups on specific maps. If the player/map combo comes up they will put out the person who was supposed to have prepared for it. It might be a specific build against a specific player or simply a race on a map, but that's how you plan out for proleague.
Wow, I would not have expected this. I'm still really hoping for a top 4 finish, but things look bleak, especially with HotS so close to release. I assume SPL finishes before the expansion comes?

SPL will run all the way into May/June at the least. Round 4 5 and 6 will be HOTS then you have the playoffs.

All I have to say is that Revival totally HAD Dear with that zergling runby. If he hadn't made that control group mistake, he could have focussed the Robo down and then gone for the mineral line of the main or natural. I have a hunch that he lost his army right after he realized his mistake with the zergling runby and perhaps he wouldn't have lost his army if his zergling miscontrol had never distracted him

Nah, I'd rather complain about them on TL, because I have such good insight knowledge. They do this as a job? Come on, I watch Starcaft tournaments all week - I would be a way better coach.
If the player performs worse in official match than in practice, it is still coach fault because they send him out. Coaches should account for player mental readiness as much as their actual house-practice results. Sure, players lose, but when you compare what they have on their team to results, something is not right. All-kill format is much worse for EG-TL than set matches by far.

From my observation since Stephano arrived for round two I have noticed that they only send him out when there are at least several non-kespa/proleague specific maps lined up. It is pretty obvious since the moment he arrived there that he had zero practice time on them and has likely not been practicing on them much because of GSL (although I do not know for sure). I would say at this point it is safe to say they will not send him out unless its on a non-kespa map if he remains in the current gsl tournament for a while.
JYP so bad stalker controll ... Hero: if you want to contain, you should actually have the apm to do it if your enemy wants to move out Revival: no words for that ling runby..

well, we all have our little soft spots ^_^
The classic "I've lost the argument, try to annoy the other person" Grow up.
Worst series from EG-TL since they entered proleague imo... JYP was atrocious (even in the game he won), Hero was surprisingly poor and Revival's ling run-by just emphasised how badly the series had gone! Incredibly disappointed, can't afford to have showings like this when only mid-table.. sorely missing Taeja and sorely missed Stephano ><
Seems like revival had those lings that ran by still binded to his main army.. And was really thrown off by protosses chase and being unable to run infestors fast enough
Man, Revival having NO creep spread on a map where all the bases are so disjointed is just.... I don't know what. He had no excuse for not winning that game and seemed to fall further and further apart after losing 4 roaches to pheonix lifts.
I really couldn't believe how bad JYPs control was (in the game he won, lol), Hero made some questionable mistakes, and Revival basically threw that game away. :|

Well, it doesn't say anything specific about the entirety of any rounds. A Chinese website is also a questionable source when it doesn't even link to the original FOMOS article. TaeJa did play in the online IPL6 qualifiers recently and so far hasn't cancelled his Code S matches this coming Friday. Thankfully his team is keeping us from speculating.

Yes, lets not give Dear any credit for playing well.
Very questionable to send HerO into a PvP when it's his worst match up and it's Dears best. I think that JD or Stephano could've taken him down and that it should be easy clean up of the rest of STX.
I remember the last time I seen a tied game in proleague...that PvT on the map with the destructible temples. Was that Light vs Tempest? The one where the ref paused it, but Tempest wanted to continue cause he thought his goons could hit the floating CC, but turns out they couldn't. That was fun.
Oh no, it was this one. It was still a Tempest game. + Show Spoiler +

I think Pure had one against some either Sea or LighT a while ago.
Man I get kinda annoyed watching EGTL in proleague sometimes. I can understand using JYP lately because he at least will usually pull you 1 win which is what you expect of a player when in AK format. Zenio though? Zenio out of almost the whole EGTL squad (for proleague) is the least achieving of players. Hero I can understand for obvious reason but why Revival for your ace? Regardless of skill putting someone who has nerve problems as your ace is ridiculous. Even if he is better then JD, you can't deny that JD has the most experience of being in pressure oriented situations. Also you had Stephano on the bench. Either of these picks would've been way better. This isn't the first time either that it seems the coaching has been a mega blunder when choosing who to start and finish, it almost feels like they'd rather have their players get experience rather then win sometimes. The thing I love about most of the kespa teams is they play cutthroat. What I mean by this is usually they will always play their best 2-3 players and have their ace players always play the ace position regardless. Sigh I really hope EGTL learns to be more cutthroat in who they play in their lineups since the season isn't over yet for them, they just really got to get it together.

i didnt see it but if i had to guess it was probably a base trade into each player had like a pylon left and no one was willing to move out. thats just a guess though
HerO and Dear went for proxy DT's (next to each other, too), and when they attacked there was no detection. The game ended with both players building cannons and sitting all of their units around them.

Hyperbole much? TaeJa is playing Code S next week.
I thought I read an article that doctor's advised Taeja not to play for round 3 in Proleague. Is that not true?
Well, provide the link of the article? Are you sure it wasn't just for round 2?
As for anything official, all we got out of Liquid was the team's content manager eventually saying, "It's a week by week thing, we don't always know ourselves, but TaeJa is playing it safe. His wrists hurt, that's all." And all Liquid's actual player manager keeps talking about is DotA.
I know I'm not tweeting much about StarCraft, but I can assure you that my focus on StarCraft isn't weakened and still is a high priority for me.

Better email the sponsors. I'm sure they would like to know.
I think this should be obvious. And if sponsors don't give f... about what is going on and where they invest, then, who will?
Go ahead, I'm 100% sure sponsors would like to hear you, random internet guy, complaining about their coaches decisions. No doubt they would like to know.
So you think this is how it works)?
Ofcourse this is how it works. Sponsors would be stupid to trust their coaches, who watch the players 24/7 and know best how they perform. No way they would ignore the complains of the TL-armys.
Would you please buy some flowers to the coaches.
Nah, I'd rather complain about them on TL, because I have such good insight knowledge. They do this as a job? Come on, I watch Starcaft tournaments all week - I would be a way better coach.
well, we all have our little soft spots ^_^
The classic "I've lost the argument, try to annoy the other person" Grow up.
It is not my intention to win arguments, my intention is to express my point of view. Whether it is wrong or not is another question. I can't be 100% wrong in the argument above and even if I am, I don't fucking care. What I care for is the opportunity to come and watch the games of the players I want to watch and who are in fact better and more entertaining to. When I come and see how practice partners play and lose the match I think I can elaborate on this for some time, can I?
I think I have a right to express my rage or praise, depending on the situation too. By saying "we all have out little soft spots", I acknowledge that I can be wrong, but is being right important to me? It is important for those who are trying to boost their self-esteem by winning arguments. So, if it was your attempt at showing how mature your are, then I can tell you, the only thing you've been successful at is being stupid enough to make that kind of post.
