We'll be casting the map tournament live starting on Thursday, Jan 31 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) on twitch.tv/ignproleague. Come check out all our casters (and maybe some of our staff) casting games on these new maps!
Hello everyone! For quite sometime people have stated that the map pool is quite stale and needs to be improved. That's why we are introducing a set of new maps and a tournament to test them on! We want these maps to see as much play as possible, as at least two of them will be joining the IPL map pool. We may add more depending on player feedback, viewer feedback and overall balance and entertainment value. BRACKET

Cool, will there be any big name invites?
|
Wait... So anyone can sign up?
Because that's AWESOME!
Edit: Friday at ten though dang.

Its an open tournament, so no invites. With a 600$ pricepool, there should be some big names.
|
I think this is very welcome, the IPL map pool was too stagnant and really needed changes. The maps should be great, and the players should be awesome as well.
|
Great initiative IPL, I'm glad a foreign organization is experimenting with new maps.
|
|
This is exciting. I really like the map choices as well! It's so difficult nowadays for maps to get attention.
|
The timing of this tournament is very poor =/ WoL about to die, only reason to keep playing is IPL6 quals and IPTL. You should have waited and done a map tournament for HotS
|
How many people are you allowing to sign up for this?
|
Why are all of these tournaments at such awkward times in the day?
|

I was kind of thinking the same thing. HotS will have a new map pool anyway so whats the point? I suppose you could use these maps in HotS also but why not wait until then?
|
Sounds like a good time I'm glad there's still a few leagues taking initiative with keeping the map pools fresh
|
I'm not an expert but TPW Sand Castles looks really great.
|
This is kinda a crummy time. Is there really no way to do it later or on the weekend? I would love to participate but I can't at 9am on a weekday.

Very excited for this!
lefix dominated btw

Getting hype for this. So happy we'll be seeing games on something other than the CK/Ohana/Daybreak crap we've had for the past year. Not that they are bad maps, it's just so refreshing to have something new!
IPL are pretty much the first tournament to actually work with community map makers, hopefully it becomes a regular thing.
EDIT
oh and check out sc2melee.net for loads of great community melee maps :D follow us on twitter for up to date dedicated melee mapping news twitter.com/sc2melee

Hi guys, I just updated the OP with when we'll start casting tomorrow. Looks like we'll have AX.Crank participating (if he doesn't fall asleep before then.)
Also if anyone needs to get on NA check out the regions.xml version of globalizing your client from this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=395154
it. is. awesome.
|
Just updating anyone who needs the information as I am at work now and unable to further asist: Maps TPW Starry Night and TPW Sand Castles are now uploaded to NA server as "IPL Starry Night" and ""IPL Sand Castles"
-- Please make sure to give shoutout for TPW on those two maps since I fudged the map name by removing the "TPW" monicker -- If I can get off work for about 20 minutes in the next 2 hours I will update them again w/ proper names.
Apologies to the guys at TPW for my ineptitude on this one.

Really hyped for this. :o

Jookto destroying Crank. Uh, unexpected.
|
Go kill him Crank!
Edit: Holy shit, I'm facepalming so hard. Full foreigner
|
Well that was... interesting. Just warp zealots into zergs face until he dies lol
|
Theory > Crank confirmed. FXO.LgN strong.
|
What is theory doing? Talk about an absolute choke. This is painful to watch.
|
Great games so far
|
Daaaaamn man FXOTheoRy really showed some great skills. These FXO Players are getting good! I mean Jookto is not just some random Zerg, but TheoRy really put up a good fight! imo he is a protoss of FXO to watch out for

Clarity cannot be stopped on completely new maps, map tournaments beware clarity comes for you.
|
Clarity's destroying this tournament!
|
Watch out for Clarity in IPTL Amateur soon!
|
Fun to see Shuttle just building bases everywhere. Playing Terran as if it were Zerg and making it work :D

Clarity has a sick team and many of them are underrated. Shuttle is sick.
|
Is there a channel that that IPL could tweet out a channel so that people could have a place to meet and play these maps? I think playing them help a casual audience become acquainted.
|
Some of my thoughts/feedback on the map-pool:
ESV Sidewinder- while certainly creating interesting games, I feel that this map may be a little to strong for zerg due to endless flanking opportunities and numerous attack paths.
DF Atlas- Looks like a good map at first, but good players can easily exploit the huge amount of open space outside the main with Blink Stalkers or elevator play.
TPW Sand Castles- Great map, same problem as Sidewinder and Atlas but it looks easier to deal with those problems on this map.
TPW Starry Night- Seems very difficult for Terran or Protoss to take a third against zerg, that and the backroad path to the main make for some gimmicky play on this map.
TPW Breaking Point- Not too sure about this map, it seems like it could make for very interesting gameplay.
TPW Silver Sands- I like the concept here but again the Blink/elevator play looks too strong here.
ESV Abode- Looks really interesting, reminds me of a 2 person Tal'darim Altar but with a more feasible landscape. I'm definitely interested in seeing more games on this map.
If I had to vote for 2, it would be ESV Abode and TPW Sand Castles

Wow, Kibbelz was pretty spot on the nydus sound. :o

Breaking Point won me over with BW music ♥_♥
Seriously though, my favourites at Breaking Point, Sidewinder and Starry Night.
|
dayummm son clarity so good :D
|
I'd like Sidewinder or Sand Castle (kinda similar and both good) and then either Breaking Point or Adobe, both are very technical and interesting I feel.
Starry Night is nice but I would only like it as a replacement for Daybreak, in general I think it's just very big and macro, something the map pool doesn't need so much more of.
|
Thoughts guys? KEEP EM COMING

I'll be in channel "IPL" all day if people want to come and test out their maps and share thoughts.

I thought Sidewinder was the most convincing from the games i have seen. Very nice and polished map with a nice dynamic, imho.
A little sad we didn't see more of Sand Castles, I think the map can provide better games than it did today. Shuttle could have taken the other third option, which is farther away by air, but closer by land and easier to wall. Might have been a different Game then.
Atlas is also an excellent 4p map, but out of the three I have to say I like the other two better.
Breaking Point I am personally not such a big fan of, and have yet to see a long game on it.
Starry Night seems to provide very solid macro games. I am very happy with this map.
Silver Sands is quite nice, too. But I felt there was too much focus on the center path.
Abode I am still indifferent about. The games looked good, but it didn't really catch my interest either.

Great games TheoRy. Strong showing. You boss
|
is there a youtube playlist of this or something? you guys seem to use youtube playlists for most things, but there is no playlist for this tournament, and I'd like to watch it! I guess I'll just manually queue up a bunch
