It’s that time again; a new season and a new shot at getting into Group Play at a live Championship, where you’ll compete for international bragging rights and a huge stack of cash. The Fall StarCraft II Online Qualifiers are about to begin, and you can be a part of it all.
This Fall, we will be running both Open and Invite-Only Online Qualifiers. Each Qualifier will run in three regions: NA, EU and KR. The top players from the Open Online Qualifiers will move on to the Invite-Only round. The top players from each region of the Invite-Only Qualifiers will win all-expenses paid trips to the Fall Championship in Dallas on November 2-4, where they’ll start in Group Play.
Later this week, we’ll be contacting the players who have already earned the right to compete in the Invite-Only Online Qualifiers, including the Top 88 from Raleigh and more; see the full list of invited players. If you don’t receive an invitation, don’t worry–get a pass for the Open Online Qualifiers and that trip to Dallas could still be yours.
Passes for the Open Online Qualifiers cost $10 and are on sale now.

Man, why does it feel that MLG is falling out of the No.1 foreign tournament throne?
Really like MLG, but they are not as hot as last year.

MLG was still pretty big for winter season, summer dropped off a bit due to player pool and this season lost a bit of hype due to MvP

Picking whatever race we wanted for each match we played. Like, Round 1, I decide to play Protoss, Round 2, Zerg, and so forth... I'm just checking this is still okay as it has been at the previous ones, correct?

The bracket can be accessed by everyone if you find the link somewhere or by simple URL guessing. Hidden is an overstatement. You don't have that many tournaments going on that it's difficult to figure out.
https://sc2.majorleaguegaming.com/tournaments/341/tab/info
Totally hidden, right?
First round matchups are listed for everyone to see and if you click on matches you even get the results listed, not secret at all. Again, every match has a number and you can simply add or subtract 1 to or from a number in the URL to see all the other match results. Usually at least 90% of the matches have results, for the others you simply get matchups and have to figure out who won by looking at the next few matches.
Anyway, saying the results are secret is wrong, since everybody with a little interest could look them up easily. Been this way like forever, but it isn't too interesting in any case since the qualifiers are pretty damn boring and the system is dumb. But I ranted about that in your other thread already, doesn't matter here.

The Dallas Group Play has been released: http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/starcraft-ii-group-play-at-the-fall-championship-2/
For more information regarding the MvP Invitational: MLG vs Proleague is about pitting the best players from each organization against each other. Players from each side play each other exclusively each week, with no intra-region play happening until the playoffs. By the playoffs, all 24 KeSPA pro’s will have played all 24 global players. The Playoffs: In the playoffs, the format changes to narrow down each regions players until one player remains from KeSPA and one player remains from MLG. These two star players then compete in the finals for a winner-takes-all $10,000 grand prize. Along the way, the MvP Invitational will also determine 8 spots in MLG Dallas Fall Championship Group Play, 4 from KeSPA Proleague, 2 from NA, 1 from EU and 1 from Korea/Taiwan.

Is it the same format as summer? With the weird WB/LB in well i guess you can call it groups?
Hope not, groups look good but summer championship was stupid as hell with that ridiculous format. Otherwise i guess this will be my weekend in November without SC2.

Can you explain if there was some sort of algorithm to how the groups were made? No shade to Groups A and B, but I think C is stacked with skill and D isn't too far behind. Those are championship finals level players while A and B seem like considerably weaker groups.
Group C: TaeJa: Summer Arena champion viOlet: Spring Arena champion Life: recent Code S champion

I'm unsure what you are referring to with the "weird WB/LB"; however, it is a double elimination bracket, so once you lose in the Winners Bracket, you do fall to the Losers Bracket.

Yeah so it's the same as Summer. No pool play but double elimination brackets and a lot of extended series. So with some bad luck you only play 3 matches while you got a seed in group play.
Summer was so frustrating to watch because of that and i wont expose my self so that again. Thanks for the reply tho.

Can you explain if there was some sort of algorithm to how the groups were made? No shade to Groups A and B, but I think C is stacked with skill and D isn't too far behind. Those are championship finals level players while A and B seem like considerably weaker groups. Group C: TaeJa: Summer Arena champion viOlet: Spring Arena champion Life: recent Code S champion ??? Groups are based on seeds. Group Play Players will be separated into one of four Groups as follows: Group A will consist of Seeds #1, #8, #9, #16, #17, #24, #25, and #32. Group B will consist of Seeds #2, #7, 10, #15, #18, #23, #26, and #31. Group C will consist of Seeds #3, #6, #11, #14, #19, #22, #27, and #30. Group D will consist of Seeds #4, #5, #12, #13, #20, #21, #28, and #29. Is there any info available on how "MLG Rank" is computed (since that's the #1 criterion for seeding this time)? Players earned a specific number of points for their placement in 2011 MLG Providence, the 2012 Winter, Spring, and Summer Championships, as well as the three 2012 32-Player Arenas. A Player’s points are added up and MLG Rank is determined by each Player’s total.

Hope not, groups look good but summer championship was stupid as hell with that ridiculous format. Otherwise i guess this will be my weekend in November without SC2. The format can be found here: http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/competitions/48#event_121_event-formatI'm unsure what you are referring to with the "weird WB/LB"; however, it is a double elimination bracket, so once you lose in the Winners Bracket, you do fall to the Losers Bracket. Players from each side play each other exclusively each week, with no intra-region play happening until the playoffs. By the playoffs, all 24 KeSPA pro’s will have played all 24 global players. What's the deal with VOD availability? HD pass only?
|
I have to work on Friday, does anyone know if the VODs are usually up within an hour or two of the games being played? I really don't want to miss Grubby vs Flash or have to wait a whole week to see it and have the result be ruined... I'll actually buy a pass if it means I can have the VOD when I get off around 8pm
|
Ok seriously, clicked all over MLG's website. I really want to see Grubby v Flash after I get off of work. How will VOD availability work, will they be up after the matches? After the event? Do I have to pay?
I WILL PAY YOU $15 TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THIS MATCH AT MY CONVENIENCE! So answer me, please?
|
Well I don't know about VODs but MLG uses a DVR like system where you can pause and rewind the stream immediately, so you can go to the main stream and rewind it and watch any previous portion that you like.
|
Except now they've announced the DVR won't work.
