I do not really comprehend why anyone would be angry at that kind of decision. Unless teams and other tournaments were informed about this scheduling conflict much earlier, perhaps by three or four months, than the public, then making it impossible for players to qualify due to the format it would seem pretty harsh. It also means that everyone involved has done zero homework; both teams and Gom were aware of the scheduling conflict yet decided to stay the course with the inclusion of players that would certainly not have any chance of qualification.
I'm mostly irked that they are gaming the system to have their cake and eat it too, so to speak. I first noticed it when Ganzi skipped his Code A match 'because of his wrists' then 2 days later competed at MLG. ForGG did almost exactly the same, but I am not sure if he's planning to return to Code A. People have to make choices all the time. They are treating a forfeit like a loss when I think a forfeit for financial reasons (rather than sickness or other unavoidable reasons) should count as walking away from the tournament, not a loss. 4 (possibly more) of the 32 participants are happy to throw their places in the tournament, when there are any number of players who would have loved to play it out to the end.

Marineking lost to horror. he should just focus on OSL
I'm still surprised that Miya beat Hack to advance. I know his t v z isn't that great but he's been doing pretty well lately. I hope he has a good shot at Code S through the up an downs.

It's just all a bit lame.
I can understand that, but I do not understand how you disregard very plausible reasons for why it has to play out the way it does. Unless there are causes we do not know at play behind the scenes, Gom chose a structure that would disqualify players that have obligations to other tournaments that were publicly known at the WCS Korea's inception.
I do agree that it is a bit lame, personally I would much rather see my favorite SC2 player play it out in the WCS, but I understand that some things cannot be helped. And if what I expect to be true is that way, saying that it is 'gaming the system' in any way is an injustice to both HerO and aLive - it is certainly very dissimilar to the situations and explanations that applied to ForGG and Ganzi.
Ideally, WCS Korea should be played out without any drops. However, given the time frame of Gom and all other relevant parties, this would mean that the tournament would be a lot shorter than what it is now. Of course, this is true for every other Nationals to my knowledge, and certainly true of the ones that are most comparable to the Korean ones. This would take away from how epic WCS Korea feels to me on a personal level, and I am happy that Gom/Blizzard decided to give us such a long event - even if the compromise that has to happen is to see players have to withdraw because of other obligations.
I could have understood a decision to play hardball with players over this; it would certainly fit with the scope of the tournament if you view it in a vacuum - WCS Korea with its players and the prestige of pretty much being the first televised event where you see Kespa and Gom players challenge one another on such a scale is definitely a tournament that could stand on its own merits. The reality of this tournament, however, is that for all its sparkle, drama and highest level of StarCraft II, it is a qualifier. And it would be harsh on players to coincide the only qualifier they can enter with a major tournament to which they had already accepted their invite.
In the end, I understand criticism of the structure of the tournament due to giving us some disappointing results. But at least personally I can more than live with those due to getting to see some things I have never seen before coming out of it.
Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed it a lot, seeing the KeSPA players knocking out non-KeSPA players has been a great story, Just this level of forfeit is unusual and unfortunate.

I do agree completely with that. Makes me sad, but also makes me very happy indeed to see Gom make this into something extra rather than to have a one day or weekend qualifier.
^^This. Of course, as fan, it sucks to have players pull out mid tournament because it takes away a lot of the storylines/hype/anticipation. But without knowing all the facts, it is unfair to put the blame on the players. They had previous obligations (to tournaments, sponsors). I think as long as they let GOM know in advance that they wouldn't be able to play on some dates and GOM is ok with it, then it is fine. Remember that the WCS schedule is different from something like the GSL. With GSL, you win and you move on and you know the dates of future rounds (which GOM can move around from monday to thursday). With WCS double elimination format, the schedule is much tighter and a player schedule will depend on whether they are in the WB or LB. And due to the tight schedule, it is much harder for GOM to reschedule matches. They can push matches 1 day ahead or behind (like JD v Sun match, Liquid Hero match) but they can't move a match for 2-3 days because it disrupts the entire schedule.

Do you really have so little faith in MKP that you think he would need several seeds (extra lives!) for WCS? :D

Surely you can save one for Byun at least!
hahaha, okay! they can have two each, should help out against those pesky zergs
Hoping for an excellent performance from aLive. Effort vs. herO will be fun too, I guess. I do hope the Kespa players can bring some unique strategies to SC2.

Just give all 10 seeds to byun, he'll wreck everyone for Korea by himself.
