I'm glad people like Best and Soulkey advanced. Am waiting on JD and Bisu, with their work ethic, I know they'll qualify soon for OSL if not this one.

Players that show consistent strong performances in ProLeague are thrown into this huge Bo3 single-elimination bracket where their past results don't matter at all and all it takes is a little bit of randomness and they're out of the OSL. I don't see why they don't do stuff like 1. use a double-elimination bracket 2. place people high on the KeSPA ranking thing a round or two further in the bracket. (this one is more dubious) OSL and PL are different leagues. In PL you are preparing for one map and you can usually narrow down the race or even player. Historically there have been players who excelled in one but not the other. So it doesn't make sense to contaminate the results of one league with players' performance in another. Players are seeded into ODT/OSL based on how they performed in the previous OSL, not how they perform in a team league. It hasn't been uncommon recently for one or two players in a qualifier group to get byes the first round. Not based on a random draw, but based on the fact that they're better performing players. Other times the most unknown players have to play one more round, but it's the same concept. It may be true that you can be out of the qualifiers in an instant based on bad luck, but it will never be true that you can pass the qualifiers on luck. It's pretty simple, if pro players want to do well, they can play well. On July 20 2012 06:20 larse wrote: Yeah. Even though it's their traditions to do it this way, it's a stupid format for the OGN and Kespa's profitability. They gotta come up with a way to keep the popular players rather than throw them away based on pure competition. Esports and starcraft are still fragile and need this unfair care-taking to advance, especially during this tough transition season. So you're in favor of an Ongamenet PlayersWhoHaveTheBiggestFanClubs League? New players get fans when they perform well. Think about Movie's OSL silver. I like watching the players I've watched for years already, but neither those players themselves nor the fans think they need to have their hands held because they're not up to the competition. Eventually the players we think are popular and skilled are going to retire. That's why we let people into the OSL for being good.

So now to see b-teamers eliminating players like Effort, Jaedong, Bisu, etc? I think that's great. I'm excited for new talent and storylines. Once the PL is over and kespa A teamers get to focus exclusively on SC2, I'm sure they'll do better if they practice the game and deserve it. Clearly, if SC2 skill is the merit, they don't deserve it right now. Seems like most people just want to watch exhibition matches. I want to see the best gamers advance so the OSL is better.

The last 2 years of the BW scene in korea got pretty static as less and less new talent entered (going to SC2 instead.) Personally I found it to be pretty boring. I agree with you 100%. But I think the point people are making is that the old stars qualifying would attract bigger crowds (which OGN's SC2 events desperately need) than a bunch of random no-names, which is a fair point.

But what I was saying is that this transition period is the most important period, and is fragile and requires extra cares and special treatments. The transition will be less successful if they can't secure some big names in the new game.

"secure" way to ensure their stars getting through the qualifiers. They need the Korean fans to move over to SC2 happily. They aren't like us; I bet if hitmaN had qualified we'd all rally around him and make him a huge star. Foreign scene so hype
