I prefer them losing with some old foreign TL players then winning with a bunch of bought Korean pros. Well, I do not. And I wish people would stop with this nonsense of discriminating what countries players on a team are from. If the named foreigners want to play for the team, then they have to put out the results. If anything, this will bring the necessary motivation, maybe even be trained as certain snipers. It's not like they will be booted. Team leagues are the future (Proleague anyone?) and thus Liquid will need to do whatever it takes to ensure the team wins. Bombing out in the first round of prestigious offline team tournaments such as GSTL every season just because you wanna hold up the foreigner flag, will just be embarassing and not help the cause.
I completely agree with you, Sir.

TL needs to step up its recruiting if they wanna roll with the big boys (Korea)
Hero and taeja are great but more depth is needed.
man i bet Starcraft recruiting is fun!

Obviously you can't just perform everytime, it'll take a few tries I think before they maybe get out of a group. + they'll need Ret and Sheth, or at least Ret.
|
Hero saves them from another all-kill, *whew*. Was a good try from Liquid though, better gg next time!

biggest winner was the poor bloke's friend who betted $500 against him that liquid would lose.

Sooo many naysayers in this community. Not surprising at all that this thread would be full of people giving their opinion on changes Liquid should make after only two matches. Wait until the season is over and in the meantime just thank them for trying instead of fucking accusing them of focusing on publicity stunts and marketing. If you're calling jinro bad after seeing how close he was to qualifying for code A then sorry but you're unintelligent. I know everyone wants to make arguments and voice an opinion on the forums but maybe consider that sometimes it's too soon/you don't have enough information to draw sweeping conclusions.

Surprising amount of antipathy towards TL on the forums and r/starcraft recently, which is definitely unfortunate. I guess too many people had unrealistic expectations, though admittedly it is easy to say such things in hindsight.
Thus ends this GSTL season for Liquid. I hope that they come back to compete again next season, but critically, they need to go all-in for this tournament next season, especially not with a shoe-string roster. You need to have guys like Hero, Taeja, Zenio, Sheth and Ret at every match. Relying on 1 or 2 players to defeat an entire team prepared to snipe them is simply an unrealistic expectation.

Close to qualifying to Code A? He got a walkover and beat NEXMiso (a player who isn't even on the ZeNEX roster), then got destroyed by Choya.

Personally, I really like the FXO model where they have a Korean base for their team, complete with management and other logistics. With that scenario, they can recruit upcoming Korean talent and actually form a team that lives together, trains together and prepares for team matches together. Most international teams have decentralised operations and it is really unfortunate, especially for team matches. The SC2 scene in Korea is just too professional and centralised compared to the international scene, making it an uphill battle for any international team to keep up.
Kudos to FXO for seeing this early, especially a couple years ago when SC2 was yet to take off in Korea, while the bubble was rapidly expanding internationally. FXO made a sensible, long-term focused decision while the SC2 scene was still extremely unpredictable. Quite amazing that the established e-sport organisations chased dodgy short-term hopes and dreams while a finance company found the right path instead.

Have you every been on a sports forum? You can see the same passion as here. The future of esports is when people care and the fans are really emotional. Just like real sports.

GGs TL! Fighting! Always room for improvement, even competing is a victory in itself =D

Imagine that, a finance company with very deep pockets can afford to outright buy an existing Korean team and not make any changes to it. Shame on other esports organizations for not being able to afford that.

Um no, he was on the verge of beating Choya and simply let his advantage slip away in the game. Nice try though.

That still means he got destroyed, much like his matches against Hoseo and Zenex

Not sure if it had been pointed out, but the spoiler free result section has game 3 has Tassader vs. TLO instead of Taeja.

Last time I recall you have to win a BO3 to advance (you know, WIN GAMES), not just have an "advantage" in one game. If that's the only leg you have to support Jinro then he wasn't close to getting out at all. Even if we chalk up his loss to Life as ending up on the wrong side of the gamble, he has not shown the results to suggest he can hang with standard Code A opponents.

It was game 3, bud. Clearly you made that claim without having a damn clue whether it was true LOL. If only we could always make stuff up to bolster our arguments.

You call that result in game 3 "destroyed". Sorry to be blunt but you're not smart.
