But yeah, SC2's community is the best and with it Starcraft surely will expand its horizons. http://i.imgur.com/snazu.jpgThey're getting there. Slowly, because it's Blizzard, but I think they got the message. problem is no one uses their websitel ol This man has a point. The difference with LoL is that LoL big tournaments' streams are embedded in the client, catching the attention of the casual players launching their game. Casual players rarely go on games' websites (apart for a certain category who do this at work... where they can not watch a stream, obviously). I am probably wording this poorly, but if Blizzard would embed big tournaments' streams in their client, replacing this useless Tychus face, it would make a world of difference. No streams on Riot's client, you can click a link and it opens an internet browser with the stream.
There's never been streams embedded in LoL client, why do people think so?

That would be amazing honestly. However, we are talking about Blizzard here.

Issue:
Riot does everything for LoL and have absolute control over every aspect of the ESPORT. Blizzard shits on StarCraft since it doesn't generate revenue after the initial purchase.

And I think they're being shortsighted with that. If Blizzard promoted SC2 tournaments far more actively, maybe even organizer practice tournaments and such regularly, it would make the game bigger and get far more new players interested in it as well.
Especially with the expansions incoming.

wp Feast, great tournament dude.

i always wondered, why Blizzard does not sell little cosmetic things in SC2, like portraits or Symbols. For the pros it does nothing and for a casual crowd it might be interesting and might generate some revenue.

LoL numbers are great, but people should also keep in mind how many people are at barcrafts watching. Take the latest MLG there were over 30 barcrafts with over 100 people at each. Combine that amount with the usual stream viewers and the numbers are probably closer.

It is fairly shocking actually. They clearly have no qualms about selling both expensive cosmetic goods (mounts and pets) to people who already pay a subscription fee for WoW, as well as charging extortionate amounts for essential services such as server transfer that other companies will happily provide for free. Why exactly aren't they willing to sell purely cosmetic crap for SC2 I wonder?

Blizzard should have kept all the multiplayer options free to play for sc2 and charge all other content, including custom games, replay's and statistics. Then they would get LoL numbers. If dota2 will be free to play, sc2 will fall way behind.
|
Cause its a bad thing and SC2 doesnt have heavy cost demands compared to WoW which needs new content added all the time. Micro transactions should stick with MMOs and stay there, thank god Blizzard is smart enough to not implement that to SC2.

Seeing how a simplified DOTA-clone where people go beating up AI units and using spells like it is WOW Arena can gather 3 times the SC2 viewership really show how badly SC2 is dying. Heck, LoL is even an older game and still it outlasted SC2. Blizzard seriously need to redesign especially Protoss for HotS to make the game watchable. Put the guy in charge of WoL Zerg design to redesign Protoss for HotS, and bring back Bill Roper.

I am watching the LoL stream and I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on...

No it doesn't fucking mean SC2 is dying, it means people like to watch LoL.
SC2 is doing fine.

There are approximately 190,000 people watching the LoL stream right now. I doubt Barcrafts can make up those numbers.

I'd imagine SC2 probably looks roughly the same from their point of view, but with more buildings ^.^
