How can people watch tennis, just 2 guys making the ball go back and forth? How can people watch football, grown men running after a ball get paid millions for it?
How can people watch RTS, someone just cheeses and it's gg?
Wait I know, maybe because people like different things?

However with these teams this would be a great opportunity if it's your first time watching it - Both of the teams play a very entertaining style.

Does Riot actually make a ton of profit from LoL? They spent 5 million on prize money - if MLG can't make money off sc2, how the hell does Riot make money off LoL?

But still, it angers me when I see no initiative from Blizzard trying to support my favourite game to the extent that it will surpass its competitors. Just some passive rage from me after seeing those stream numbers. XD
But yeah, SC2's community is the best and with it Starcraft surely will expand its horizons. http://i.imgur.com/snazu.jpg
They're getting there. Slowly, because it's Blizzard, but I think they got the message.

Yes, Battle Net sucks ass. It is very disappointing. The fact is Blizzard has become a bureaucratic nightmare. All firms when they reach certain sizes become inefficient behemoths. Hence, the fact that smaller companies are putting out much better products. This is one of the first understandings of the Socialist Calculation critique which applies equally to large firms. I'm perfectly fine with Blizzard dying off and new better competitors taking up the mantle. Such a shame though.

Micro... transactions. People pay money to Riot for various small stuff, so that's a source of income starcraft 2 does not provide. But of course, Riot might still be in the reds, haven't seen their numbers yet.

They were also tbh quite loud, but you couldn't really hear it - MLG and maybe dreamhack aswell has mics close to the crowd, if IEM does aswell they are far away or turned down quite a lot
No you don't pay anything extra to get into the IEM hall. It is just another like any other of the maybe 17-20 convention halls, just a totally different content. You come from silent halls with bright light and loads of guys in suits (40% of them being chinese nowadays) who present all kinds of E-commerce and ERP solutions etc. and then you just enter the next hall and everything is dark, loud and full of teenagers playing games and/or watching some big screens with stuff you don't understand as normal visitors. It'S one of the funniest thing at cebit to see the confusion on normal visitors faces when they watch the IEM screens, attracted by the crowd, but not getting what can possibly so important and interesting about what's happening on the screen.
Funniest thing for me this year was a young policemen who stood there at the sc2 stage and tried to explain his very attractive female colleague what was happening. Let's put it this way... It wasn't hard to realize that her enthusiasm was quite limited.

One was the acquisition of The Huffington Post by AOL for $315 million; the other was the acquisition of Riot Games by Chinese Internet company Tencent for just north of $400 million."
So a year ago they had earned 400mil from selling it and it's grown even more so I assume they're not in money problems with 5mil prizes.

From this article:
Once full numbers are presented for 2011, it is expected that Tencent will have surpassed Activision Blizzard as the company that generates the most revenue from PC games.
So yes a ton of money. Maybe even more than SC2. Crazy

While true, the people who don't already know about IEM are the ones who actually do use their website.

Congratulations to the ESL for their best run major event so far. In my 9(?) years of watching I have never seen an ESL event run so smoothly. They are visibly stepping it up this season and I hope they keep their standards next season and still try to improve everywhere they can. Yes, there were some bummers like the Kas rematch situation and the travel accomodation problem, but these issues are sometimes unavoidable (given the circumstances).
Of course it is sad to see SC2/RTS being kicked off the main stage after only one year. But it is good that it is not because SC2 is declining rapidly but because other titles attract numbers rarely seen before. As long as SC2 has a dedicated community that has fun playing and watching it, SC2 is there to stay.

This man has a point. The difference with LoL is that LoL big tournaments' streams are embedded in the client, catching the attention of the casual players launching their game. Casual players rarely go on games' websites (apart for a certain category who do this at work... where they can not watch a stream, obviously).
I am probably wording this poorly, but if Blizzard would embed big tournaments' streams in their client, replacing this useless Tychus face, it would make a world of difference.
