Na, it`s ok how they decide who advances. it`s fair. But it always makes me sad if somebody plays a good groupstage, only to be kicked out of the tourney, due to a map difference of 1.


They can't have played that good if its close enough for map score to matter.

I also think that using map score before head to head is crap.
I mean they have same win/lose, but Socke won against JYP... still JYP advances. When you say it like that, it is way more stupid then looking at useless mapscore. And every sports using "sets", takes head to head before sets.

It was also before NaNi went to korea. Going 24-2 during a tournament is fucking insane, no matter if the opponents were korean or not.

That's great but IEM doesn't use head to head. They use map score. Which all players knew before the tournament.

You can still say it's bad. IEM does use head-to-head for all other competition. Just SC2 has the map score thing.


I don't see why one is less fair than the other, they're both pretty much the same.

No, they are not. If I beat you I am better than you. It shouldn't matter if you lose a map vs players who are already out or are worse.

I assume he meant Dallas. Naniwa didn't have a dominant run at any other events because he lost. Where as MMA went 10-0 all in very one sided stomps.


MMA is dominant until he loses. Just like Naniwa was this MLG. Naniwa as far as I am concerned actually beat a lot more better players than the ones on this group. Just saying.

And Stephano at ASUS was also dominant. And what was his streak vs protoss? 29-0 or smth.

Champions league is using the head to head scores in the groupstage..
but still u r right map score is way more complicated and kind a i think..

head to head mapscore is:

JYP 2-3 Socke 2-2 and Violet 3-2. That would give us Violet and Socke advancing. How is that bias???

Head to head is used in plenty of group matches including CL and World Cup. It's not unfair. I know they choose a different system here...I just want to point out that socke would have advance in a different system.

You cannot use head to head in this case as it is a three-way tie using head to head where JYP > Violet > Socke > JYP and thus some other way is needed to break the tie (and frankly, map score has been used in SC2 competitions quite a few timesso this is no surprise to use it either)
