Liquid has some good players that can put on a good show at times (i.e. Zenio, Sheth, Haypro, Hero) it just depends if they show up with there game face TAC1 wasn't very good for them
As long as col.MVP don't send out their big guns Liquid can do it. They have many very good players, but players like DRG or Genius are out of their league. Zenio could snipe DRG if I think about it, his ZvZ seems to be very good.
I voted liquid, then I read coL.MVP's lineup... X_X; It's possible but liquid players are going to need to be performing at their best -notably Hero who seems to be the HerO of choking recently ;o. I think 5-3 coL.MVP but am hoping for a 5-4 liquid .
sC is going to be a big problem-- maybe Ret, Sheth, Zenio, or HerO could do it-- hell, even HayprO could beat him on a good day. I think Zenio could take DRG, and HerO could take Genius-- especially in a Snipe scenario. Of course any one could have a good day, and anyone could have a bad day, but overall, I think this is the crucial point:

Why vote if you dont even know the teams. I think if liquid wins the first match they might have a chance but its for sure gonna be an upset if they win. Voted Col.MVP.
I don't think Liquid has much of a roster right now. They seem to only have Ret and Haypro that can perform somewhat consistently. The rest seem to be too much of a gamble when they will play well.

From a heart perspective, I'd love to see TL win, and a strong performance out of Sheth.
I just don't know if foreigner zerg can keep up with MVP
You and I have very different tastes in commentating. I fucking love DoA but I feel catspjs doesn't have much synergy with him...
I think Cats is a great play-by-play type of guy, similar to TotalBiscuit. Cats' commentating during the IPL Top plays segments are always really well done: Brisk, energetic, and to the point.
This should be really interesting. MVP are definitely the favorites but liquid is really solid. hopefully hero, zenio and ret will play with the other 2 depending on who they're against.
I think Liquid isn't getting enough credit, they have at least 5 players that take games off Koreans regularly: Sheth, Ret, Zenio, HerO, Jinro. C'mon people this isn't a genocide.

I don't expect an allkill, but this is the reigning GSTL champion with 4 players entering last Code S. Liquid can take games, but not win unless more than one coL player is used.

You make a good point. But allow me to state a rebuttal: DRG

Liquid doesn't have any players on the level of DRG, SC and Genius. MVP has to be heavy favourites.

Nothing against Doa or Cats, but it's great to see HD and Painuser again. They have a natural chemistry casting together, and it's like two friend joking around and messing with another.

they could probably let a couple of col players play
trimaster goswser drewbie
but MVP takes team league seriously and does like to win. they also know that they don't have much room to f*ck around, since anyone can pull off an upset [see: TAiLS]
I think I know what Sheth's strategy is. He knows his macro is better than CatZ so he is being as aggressive as possible to distrup CatZ. It doesn't matter that CatZ is getting the better exchanges, Sheth is keeping him busy enough that his macro is carrying him through

In all fairness, Sheth did manage to advance past the first round of Code A. He's a pretty good foreigner.
Ooh, what season was that again?
He knocked out ManZenith in GSL July. Sheth was elimated in the next round by Puzzle (Who won that season of Code A). Sheth then proceeded to withdraw from the GSL when he returned to America.

aw, ok then. I haven't been watching sheth for long but I he's fun to watch and root for. He's pretty good, I wouldn't be surprised if he was, in fact, code A material.

its so sad, reading the tl live threads used to add to the experience of watching a game but reading _this_ is not much better than reading the twitch chat.
If you don't like the games don't watch. Foreign play has an appeal beyond skill for many spectators. Enjoy or go away, it doesn't matter but stop shitting up this thread please.

well in comparison to the ESV korean weekly they are tbh.
I have to disagree with you. In his current condition Sheth can take down and has taken down Koreans. Not just being a fanboy. Maybe he can't beat TaeJa but that doesn't exactly give you right or cause to trash him as diamond league, comparison or not.

I wasn't talking about an all-in but I do understand your sentiment. I was actually really excited by what Sheth did. That kind of roach pressure is really cool and I hadn't seen it before. Even just building 5 roaches and forcing 3 or 4 cannons is a win in my book. That is 6-8 zealots that aren't going to kill your third (think Kiwi style pressure).
I love sheth stream. I dont think hes a bad player at all tbh, but seriously guys. Did you watch that game? I dunno, I just expected so much of this team game. Now I tune in and... well..
Is coL.MvP trying to make this close? I wonder if they're holding back DRG or Genius because they're in Code S. Still, they need to get KeeN or somebody in there quick before this gets out of hand.

Really? They are professional casters and they don't know the maps? :-/ I get it... they haven't cast in awhile now, but people who never cast ever (spectators) know the maps. Have they not been watching any SC2 while on break?

I'm really not sure why Sheth didn't just attack the army in the middle, especially when Drewbie never sieges. It really frustrates me when terrans are too lazy to siege of a few tanks and they just die... but Sheth didn't take advantage.
Beyond that I was looking forward to this series expecting MVP to bring it, i have no clue why they would bother playing guys like Catz and Drewbie when you look at thier roster, just shows you how concerned they are about the event tbh. Well executed by Sheth to take the win off the 10-pool vs. hatch first.

They do seem a little off their game tonight. It seems like not only have they taken a break from casting but from the scene. Their post 8 minute casting has been pretty good though. Either way, it is still a lot of fun to watch Sheth play some good games.

HD and PainUser dont make good commentators, usually i enjoy them but theyre talking about nonesense, all their calls are wrong and they are missing alot in the games, i would actually pick moletrap over these guys right about now
and with these games, its sucks that theres no MVP, it just shows how much coL rely so heavily on them, and without them theyre not even a match.
It's Gosu User, learn to pronounce things. Caster really should do more research or know the scene better. Well this was disappointing to watch, was looking forward to it. HD and Painuser not good today. And, even though a non-korean complexity vs TL match sounds pretty even, no qxc or trimaster and minigun making mistakes has made this pretty onesided thanks to sheth being awesome.

Also wouldn't surprise me, map "Calm before the storm" was unknown to both casters.
Damn, can't believe we'll have to listen to at least one more match with HD and Painuser. Frankly, this is incredibly painful, can't imagine what they are doing.
The problem is that tonight we have two "color" commentators. I never laugh like this with other casters (except day9 obviously).
Honestly, I like it.. I know the game well enough, I can see what's happening. But I'm loling on the couch by myself at Painuser's sarcasm at HD. It's funny.
That having been said, they should couple a "color" caster with a "technical" caster. An Artosis or Catspajamas. Speaking of PJs, Cats is probably the most technically proficient caster in the industry at the moment (based on annunciation, intonation, tempo, pitch, etc), and with a strong color caster (or day9, who is both simultaneously), we could have some seriously strong casting.
From an anecdotal perspective, consider this: I was visiting my parents one night for dinner, and stayed late to watch some TAC. A friend of my parents happened to come downstairs to see what the noise was- ended up having a beer with me, turns out to be an executive at a huge media company. He had never seen starcraft, had no idea about the eSports community, but was very intrigued. He said it sounded like "mid 70's NFL football", with a kind of raw, fun commentary, with one "color" commentator and one "play by play" commentator. It was really fun to talk to this guy, and he ended up wanting a sort of "portfolio" of the starcraft community. Anyone have any ideas for a "Top Casts Ever"? I have to meet with this guy pretty soon, so far i'm combing through Day[J]Wheat and Tastosis vids trying to make a best-of.
*Edit* They aren't checking their twitter, I tweeted the "it's gosu user" a while ago lol
What the heck happened to the fans? I find this commentary hilarious. Catspajamas is always so absolutely uninterested in the game or the other caster he is with that I find him hard to listen to. At least they are enjoying themselves.

The casters are not paid to enjoy themselves. They're paid to give a reasonable analysis, you occasionally talk about what's occurring during the game. And most of all, they're paid to entertain us as the viewers.

Actually I prefer Painuser. He's actually pretty intelligent, both for in-game and out-of-game topics. Painuser/Totalbiscuit would be sweet.
I can understand some "color" or some random talks but in the beginning of the game, Artosis and Tasteless are great examples of this, they talk briefly, or say a story as the game just starts but around 2 minute mark or so, is when they start analyzing the game, which makes them great casters. HD and PainUser are just talking basically the whole game and occasionally miss fights because they get to caught up in their own conversations. And also in my personal opinion, if your going to be a caster, they should be on top of players in scene, mispronouncing Goswser and not knowing half the things they are talking about when it comes to players and recent news is whats happening right now, and its kind of embarrasing. One thing i always admired about CatsPajamas is that he knows the scene, knows the players, recents accomplishements and victories that he can make good predictions and statements regarding the player playing. Im not out with a pitchfork and say to kick out HD and PainUser or anything. but more like Constructive Criticism, because not only it gets very uninteresting, but the game itself that they are casting becomes boring.

Well i see your point but the difference between NFL-style/color commentators and this show is: utmost ignorance towards the games being played and a lack of respect towards their audience.
Whats fine: if they would go off-topic in a lull, uneventful bit of the game. Having good clean fun during the game, while keeping an eye out for the game they commentating. Whats not fine: - Really, really bad calls (game is over! 20min later..), - not keeping an eye on the game itself during commentary (missing baneling nest in sheth 10pool game?) - Missing professionalism (their job is casting, not knowing their Own Map pool? - Calm before the storm) - Missing professionalism 2 (droobie? Gowser-Gosu User..) - Long offtopic discussions Between games.. (2min discussion that wouldn't even fit in TL general after a game).
Im all for color/play-by-play commentators. Cats is one, Husky does a great dual-tech-pbb cast, wheat pulls it off great..Tastosis are their teachers. But this cast specific (and HD by defacto) are not prime examples of good casting. Just check this topic, their audience was not pleased. Commercial entertainment 101 - thats a nono.
Not to badger them, hell they could have a fun show besides IPL, discussing funny names, swastika's, commendations (brrr), etc etc.. In a format that would fit them like a F*CK Slasher type show. Not during a livecast where 10k people are eager for insight/extra info they might have missed. Afterall, this is a online tournament from a big respectable corporation, not a basement show with my-first-webcam. Respect your employer, your job, your audience, and all the energy that went into IPL to make it a succes. This was not it.

col+mvp should have raped liquid. drg could take the entire liquid squad anyways.

haha speculate all u want...but who won in the ColMVP vs Liquid Team league match? Liquid did....next!
I was hyping this up pretty hard-core; as a die-hard Liquid` fan, I was really mad that coL-MVP got to use both their teams for the league (and I definitely apply a double standard to the GSTL (Liquid` totally deserves to be w/ oGs, I mean, duh!)), but this series was kind of a let-down. coL without MVP isn't very good, and even if Sheth lost to goswser, he would have had to kill 3 more Liquid` players (probably HerO, Zenio, and Ret (though maybe Jinro because Ret doesn't like ZvZ all that much), and it still would have been a pretty weak series.
First of all, I'm leaving HD out of this because I feel like he's acting less than himself due to his partners absolutely embarassing aura. I even think he might be getting annoyed himself, so let's just give him the benefit of the doubt this once.
PainUser. We are watching you cast the Team Liquid vs ColMVP IPL Team Arena Challenge games right now. And this is by far the worst casting most of us ever seen in any professionally-played video game. No matter how much you know, and no matter how many points about the game you are able to offer, none of that matters when you act like an absolute reject nerd and make everything awkward for everyone watching.
Half of the people in the chat room are saying you're on drugs, and the other half muted the channel long ago. Your constant driveling voice, chatting about inane bullshit while there are points to be discussed within the game, is more excessive than any newbie caster most of us have seen anywhere else on the net. I've watched videos of bronze league casters giving better input to the games than you did during the Sheth vs Gowser game.
Not to mention that you need to take a serious class in how to not look physically retarded on camera. Stop pouting your lips, stop yelling at the camera when it's pointed at your face, and stop making weird noises that are so over-the-top and unnecessary. Your hygiene lacks and I think I can smell your B.O. wafting into my window here all the way across the country.
You absolutely and without-a-doubt ruined the entire Liquid vs ColMVP team series, and I can not believe that you still have a job casting. It's been the most dispicable and negative representation of e-sports I've ever witnessed or heard. I would be totally embarassed to watch these streams with my non-starcraft friends when trying to show them what I'm into.
Take a page out of the books of people like Artosis, Rotterdam, and MrBitter, and get some professionalism in your casting life. Because your current state of affairs won't get you too much further. .
. P.S. You shouldn't yell the word "RETARDED" really loud on camera.

There was stuff that could have been improved, yes, but that was a terrible way to convey your critiques. Throwing in petty insults and overexaggerations does not help your argument either.
Hmmm, will certainly be interesting to see how far Liquid goes now. They certainly have the easier half of the pool now that they knocked out Complexity. Really both Prime and Empire are beatable, and both will make for a very good second round match. Can't wait to see who advances.
Watching the rebroadcast and this is awful casting. I generally like HD and always like Painuser, but this is just bad. It's one thing for HD to never pick up on uber-mainstream pop-culture references and make junior high level sex jokes, but he should only be allowed to get away with that if he actually gives good play-by-play. Painuser usually keeps him on track, but they're somewhere way far away tonight. Neither of them are paying any attention. Their commentary is actually hindering my ability to follow the matches.
Part of me wonders if they're phoning it in because it's Col vs Liquid rather than MVP vs Liquid.
Ultimately I think HD needs some direction, focus, and maturity to be a good caster in the long run. Day9 also make tons of bad jokes, immature remarks, and is just plain goofy, but he has the good sense to work it out during his dailies where his personality is as much of a draw as the games (and he can pause the games to have an actual interlude). When he casts a tournament, he is ON, and the jokes tend to be ones he knows will land and won't slow things down. I don't know if I could handle watching this commentary if it were a live event. I might be so embarassed I'd turn it off.
Painuser is fine though. He just tends to comment at the level of his partner. My favorite combo last season of IPL was him and Cats Pajamas.

Catspajamas is not a technical caster . . . Painuser is suposed to be an analytical caster given his history as a progamer but to be honest I didn't get any of that from him tonight. Also, given the fact that you thought he was a color commentater supports that fact. And I don't want to bash the casters but I would have to disagree with you on the cast being funny tonight. There were a lot of jokes that HD/PainUser threw at each other with the hopes that the other one would take it in a funny direction, but instead there was a lot of awkward banter that never went anywhere.
If you want the best examples of Color commentator plus analytical caster go with TLO/Totalbiscuit. Purely analytical would be Rotterdam/MrBitter and pure color commentary you would want to go with CatsPajamas/Doa.

Prime is on fire these days. Don't underestimate them.
That's what they get for not using DRG or Genius. Nice win though TL, the beat foreign team in the world. Actually the absolute best team in the world.

I'm still not sold that Complexity is a top tier team, especially when the MVP side didnt play today. They got really good players, but for some reason they just never post any consistent results. Prime and Empire both are going to be harder than Complexity. Kas is so damn scary good, it's sickening. MarineKingPrime is so good.

Yeah Prime, just won the recent KSL Teamleague over MVP (the real ones) and NSHS, is of course one of the easier teams to play. Better inform about the teams, before making such a stupid statement. (Not even necessary to say, that Empire is now one of the strongest, if not the, foreign Teams out there, with Kas and violet on their roster.) Liquid will have a really hard time in the next round, whoever they face. Empire and Prime both should be clear favorites.

I'm going to have to agree on the joint-team hating.
While it reduces the chances of a foreign team winning, at least we know what we're getting.
I'd rather watch coL vs TL in the loser's bracket and MVP vs IM in the winner's bracket, just because I know exactly what I'm getting with those matches (even with my foreigner bias!).
Dude so basically my theory is this: Sheth is a baller. Every day he's hustlin and balling and today he was like "I feel like obliterating a bunch of nerds" and haypro was like "hey man are you sure about that? that might not be fair" and Sheth was like "dude let me handle this"

Well, if the teams are partnered I do not see too much issue. The only problem with the series today was the fact that most of us were expecting MVP heavy-weights like sC, DRG, Genius, Keen, etc, and all we got were guys like gowser, Drewbie and Catz. No offense to the col players, but they are many levels below their MVP counterparts that is was just a letdown.
If Liquid and oGs ever meet up, that might be awkward...
Gogo Sheth! Although i have to agree that the casting today was pretty bad... HD calling things that were just not happening, both of them not knowing how to pronounce Goswser (although to be fair it was spelled wrong in the overlay as well, derpderp) and both of them not knowing how Calm before the Storm was called! WTH, you're supposed to be proffesional casters, you should know the names of the maps at least!
I generally don't like caster bashing, but man, HD really has to step it up imo. I think his casting this series was just awful and I don't seem to be alone thinking that...

Sure, I agree that caster bashing should be avoided, because it most of the time comes down to personal taste BUT
you can quantify:
how often a caster misses stuff how often they get sidetracked how often they do not talk about what is happening on screen
Everything else, casting style, jokes, level of energie, excitement and whatever you might believe is important is entirely subjective, but I felt like that they hd and painuser were not in their best shape possible.

He needs to keep that beard. Not too much though, or EG will assimilate him into the team.

I'm not sure I understand this post. Complexity is a pure foreign team, they partner with MVP to form a similar situation as the other foreign teams who sign Koreans who stay in Korea, they just let MVP keep it's identity.
EG and Liquid aren't really, "foreign teams" considering that they both have full on Korean players. The only different to me is semantic.
I don't see any problem with letting Complexity and MVP use both their rosters, if people get disappointed by only seeing the Complexity members, so be it. The misleading argument doesn't really make sense to me, the disappointment would be no different than seeing larger Korean teams field their B-team.

Place the players names a bit lower down in the subscription so the winners aren't spoiled in the subscription box.
I like that you put a link up for the next video, could you use that same annotation to place a pause at the end of the current video, so the viewer can click it once the game over rather than earlier.

EG and Liquid are both foreign teams. It doesn't matter how many koreans they have on their roster. As long as their HQ and focus remains outside of Korea they are definitly foreign teams.
