As a Terran you always want to expand towards your opponent in TvP or TvZ.


The key advantage that you exploit as a Terran is that you can get a PF and use that to augment your forces in a fight at the PF, such as the Golf on XNC.

That advantage doesn't really exist in this case, but that position is still a good place to expand because you can easily defend that base with your army always nearby and also the wide open spaces near the central Tower that gives vision and space for gratuitous flanks.

My theory? They think they can defend it easier compared to the side bases

P had no pylon to warp in an attack though, and the T is much more mobile than the P army, having a further base makes it easier to defend. Also that base was shit to defend because if you get forced off the Xel naga the P can hit your mineral line with collosi and stalkers on the high ground.

Yeah because you can Planatary up and it gives you a strong rally/ fall back point. There he had a orbital, which means if he cant cover it with his army (which he couldnt, he had to lift and retreat several times) he loses the base (all be it temporarily because of lift off) and being mined out at his other bases he loses all his mining except some gas.

Agreed, but because he had an immobile army compared to the Terran, the last thing you want to do is have your 4th far away. There's no way you can defend that as well as your base, so he felt he had no choice.

I agree though, the pylon was needed, and Alive should maybe have expanded somewhere else. Not that it mattered in the end
