Cant believe theres so much hate in these threads while we're so blessed with a wonderful event, with wonderful games. Last warning, whine and insult the players or commentators? See you. |

PS: Somebody said that White-Ra doesn't have a personality and moreso a lack-there-of, I disagree, he is a very mannered person that is older and has a family, and on top of that plays a very unique style of protoss, I haven't seen the koreans do anything aside from the standard things.
This MLG was a dissapointment for me in terms of games, the organising was good, except the god awful voucher system.\
Well to train is obviously not enough. You need to extremly good opponents in order to get to level of MVP, MMA etc. I mean for IdrA to mass train against northamerican grandmaster players probably doesnt gain him very much.
Even if he goes like 25-2 after a day on the ladder it doesnt matter all that much, going up against a player like MVP your still going to lose. You need a ton of talent, a ton of training against players of MVP:s caliber to get up there.
And Naniwa himself have actually said he is reaching his devolopment limit here in Europe due to this fact, hence his training trip to Korea this month.

was the formatting different than last time?
Idra beating MC. IdrA's GG against MMA when he was winning MC Slits IdrA's throat. MC 4-0's IdrA.
IdrA-->Drama---->Mass posts

Has anyone calculated the new seeding points?

I think you're thinking of Dallas, MLG Columbus was great and was a huge step forward from MLG Dallas.

i'm quoting the obidan guy.
Well i never thought i would enjoy tvt but yesterday i enjoyed tvt so much. I saw korean players with contrasting styles play really well.
For example, mvp plays very standard but the decisions he makes are amazing beyond a shadow of a doubt. I mean, he actually beat one of the best zergs in the world, DRG, without even DROPPING...i mean can you imagine a terran winning vs a zerg without bothering to drop. Only mvp can beat zergs this way...he is a beast.
Also, mma is a beast....a dropship beast. He drops everybody all the time in a crazy fashion. His skill is so good but mvp had the edge on him only because i believe going banshees game 3 was a gamebreaker.
I always love watching the koreans cause i actually learn new strategies/tactics. With the na/eu crowd i learn nothing since i've seen what strats they use and it seems korean tactics are just far superior as well as their mechanical play.
I cannot see how people saying that watching non koreans is far better than watching koreans battle it out. It's like watching a lower league football team battle it out vs a rival instead of watching the top teams like barca vs man utd. Of course i'm european and i love watching idra and huk amongst others, but for esports to flourish, you need to have accessibility to all players, not some.
I mean gsl doesn't blacklist any na/eu players. They let ANY AND EVERYBODY go to korea to play. Also, same can be said for chinese sc2 scene. Also, it's not as if mlg is flooded with koreans. There are only less than 10 koreans battling it out and unfortunately that's more than enough. But tbh watching a mini gsl tournament is much better than watching a na/eu only tournament.
Don't forget huk beat koreans at dreamhack and homestory and i would never had cheered huk on as much if he had won with only a na/eu list of competitors. Huk really played sick that day and i was so happy!

Great event, great games, great to see the GOAT finish 3rd.
Lets put things into perspective, Boxer has been at the upper echelon of e-sports since 2000 and its almost 2012 now, that is 12 years, which is an eternity in e-sport terms.
Where were you 12 years ago?

No, there wasn't much to whine about last time. It was pretty perfect. Just less to talk about from this one I suppose, less interesting MLG overall.

I've got a feeling Naniwa and Thorzain will improve drastically in Korea. Can't wait for them to come to the next MLG and just breeze through the open bracket.
|
Yeah I understand you cannot forbid Koreans to play it is just the reality of foreigners vs koreans is a rather sad story.
Watching 4 terran koreans battling out aint just that much fun in my world, simply cause I dont really bother which of them that wins. I mean I was almost certain that either MVP or MMA would take the tournament from a relatively early stage, but do I care which of them win, not really...
To be honest I thought the last 4 players in MLG was close to the least intresting combination of players achievable. If rain had played instead of boxer that would actually have been the least intresting finals possible imo. I mean anything would have been better, Naniwa, Idra, some completly unknown, or even Alica/DRG would all have been much more intresting.
And the builds where all the same also. How many games was there something close to: wall in with depo+baracks, hellion aggresion, expand behind it and from their into some variation of tank/marine/viking+likely a raven and then into a late stage with some ghost+maybe thors? If it needs to be 4 people from 1 nation with 1 race cant they at least go different builds...
Well to be fair I didnt watch the last 2-3 games cause a car bomb exploded just outside my house (not kidding) before the matches started and that was a lot more intresting.
If there had been a foreigner or two among the last 4 I might just have skipped the car bomb for a couple of hours :p

People forget that there were technical issues due to storms. Games were delayed to to bnet users spamming players. That alone was worth a lot of pages.
Then there was the whole idra vs MMA and MC drama, plus we had more games casted.
Anyway, this was another great MLG.
|
Personally I closed the stream when the 6 players left were Koreans. Like others have said it doesn't interest me that much which of the Korean squad takes the prize. With the exception of MC.
MC vs Puma in the NASL finals is the best series I have ever seen.
I'm not sure what MLG should do. Only letting mediocre scrubs like Catz play would be the downfall of ESPORTSZZ. But this situation isn't all that great either.

missed almost everything, could somebody quickly recap idra vs nani games please?
|
I never thought I'd enjoy TvT until yesterday - the level of play was just ridiculous, so much fun to watch. I know a lot of people are upset that the foreigners all got knocked out so early but what do you expect when they are playing people like MvP, MMA and Rain? They are all beasts. But its pretty clear that players like Naniwa can easily make the jump to a higher skill level if they practice in Korea.

I dont understand why some people want to ban koreans from MLG.
What you guys want? An Incontrol vs Machine final?
And if europeans start to dominate the scene, you will want to ban them from NA tourneys too?
You guys should care more about the quality of the games instead of nationality.
Where can i find the replays?

Where can i find the replays? "Do you want to see some awesome games like Mvp vs Ganzi, Boxer vs Rain, Mvp vs DRG, MMA vs DRG, Boxer vs MMA?" "Nah, we want inControl vs Machine".

The thing that could solve this issue is to remove all the scrubs from Pool play. Inc, Machine, Drewbie etc, imagine if instead it was Major, QXC etc in Pool play? One of the reasons it always looks so bad is becuase the Koreans stomp Z class foreigners who earned their spot in Pools when no one knew what the hell was happening with SC2. Its a much more developed game these days and that shows.

Great event! I am terrified of the new TvT
|
I'd rather watch pros play, not a finals between crappy players
|
It's great to have koreans at the event but we need foreigner heros..
Boxers deep run kept me interested, but im not sure if an all korean non-boxer top 6 would hold my interest.
The only korean I am really interested in seeing at Raleigh would be IMNestea.
