I think too many Protoss players are stuck in the mindset that they have to do a timing attack against Zerg, and if the Zerg catches wind of the timing coming and defends it well the Protoss is behind and they might judge their limited possabilities from there.
Whereas if they play the macrogame securing bases, and continues to take bases, the Protoss have so many more options. I think this will be the future of PvZ, cause Zerg players are destined to figure out all these timing attacks constantly coming out.

protoss do have to force units or harass in some way, if both sides macro, the zerg will approach max much faster than the toss and take control of the map and then just throw wave after wave
the only way the toss wins at that point is if theres an exceptionally poor engagement for the zerg.

Whereas if they play the macrogame securing bases, and continues to take bases, the Protoss have so many more options. You can't macro against zerg. For starters zerg have the fastest units in lings and mutas so if you spread yourself out to thin, it is too easy to lose to multi-prong attacks.
Secondly it is very difficult for protoss to spend extra resources. Each base can only support about 4 warpgates or 2 stargates or robos. To go from say a 2 base to 3 base economy means you have to increase your production facilities by 1.5* which is expensive and takes time. That or you are mining extra minerals with nowhere to spend them. When you mine out your main in 18 minutes average it doesn't make sense to max expand anyways because you lose a base worth of production by the time that extra base kicks in if that makes sense.
Thirdly protoss can't produce probes fast enough. Zerg can...which is why they can max 200 in less than 15 minutes which protoss can never do. Trying to out-macro a zerg as protoss is suicide against the best players because their economy is so much more efficient and units cost effective (only late tech units for toss are cost effective and they are easily countered).
