Thanks guys! We're really looking forward to this, and what it could mean for the local SC2 community. Hope to see everyone there!

Just to clarify, you have 10 PCs and you're not allowing BYOC... so either this is gunna be a very small lan or computers are given out only for tournament games? Is it possible for you to post a list of signups in the OP?
I am tentative. Tenor.781 Diamond league.
|
Yeah, we'll have 10 PC's dedicated to the tournament the whole day. I don't really know what the turnout will be, we'll have to wait and see. Judging by the Raleigh Area TL thread + the regular SC2 players coming to the store + other advertising for the tournament, I would estimate anywhere from 15 to 25 players, maybe more.
Signups will be listed in the OP, starting with yours

In on this, this is the venue I've been talking about over and over and over in the old NC thread, love playing here and there's some solid up and comers.

Do it, the more the merrier. I've been pushing these guys to run an SC2 tournament since they opened and it's finally happening, so with a good turnout we might get more in the future. :D

arrrggg how come i never saw something like this while i was in school at NC state... still might come though... its only a 2.5ish hour drive from charlotte, well have to see

If it makes you feel any better, I drove a little over an hour to play at CGS...just to play the guy that knocked me out of the qualifier in the first round. D: (but I won, so it's okay!)
The Charlotte-Raleigh drive isn't the worst, I'm originally from Shelby and living in Raleigh now so the drive's a good hour or so longer, I try to avoid it but for the right reasons I'd make a day trip of it in a heartbeat. Get a driving buddy or two to switch off and it's way easier. I've done car trips to New Orleans, Dallas, and Atlantic City all from NC and the trick is really just to switch off with someone.

Are you still attending or are you graduated? We'll be having more tournaments when we have all the college students back for school, then its a shorter trip for a lot of people.
|
Oh and thanks to Vudu for reminding me in the other thread. The tournament might not be BYOC but it is BYOB! You can break out the drinks after 8pm, and we can keep them cold for you during the day.

If the map pool isn't finalized please consider removing scrap station and making the maps MLG. I don't think anyone can complain with that ^_^
|
I'll come to spectate! Reposting this comment from the Raleigh thread: I just moved to Raleigh and I have no one to play with (the time zone difference between here and my friends on the west coast is just unmanageable), so I will definitely add some of you guys. The tournament sounds great, but maybe we can have a little shindig LAN for fun---monobattles, Kulas Extreme, etc. My apartment isn't the biggest, but BYOB? Add me on Battlenet if you just want someone to play with (for skill reference, my MMR matches with high gold/low plat), my handle is "infinitum" and my character code is 708.

Yeah that map pool isn't finalized, I thought I would hear more likes/dislikes and make changes based on the majority. It shouldn't be a problem making them MLG maps, and I can take off Scrap Station if you guys can suggest a more preferable map to replace it. I'd like to keep 7 maps in the pool if possible. I'll talk to the guys helping me out and see what they think as well.
|
id like backwater gulch instead of scrap but i cant speak for everyone else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe this will help.
|
*Maps have been updated to MLG maps, the only other update will be the scrap replacement map.
|
|
Anyone need me to answer any more questions, or send you an email reminder for the tournament, let me know at brad@ruagamer.net
|
any of those three replacement maps would be perfectly fine

any idea how long tourney will take?

On July 21 2011 17:01 ToFjames wrote: any idea how long tourney will take?
I'm not really sure. Since this will be our first starcraft tournament we don't have anything to compare with. Its hard to say how many people competing will show up. Id guess around 7-8pm, maybe a little after depending on when we want to take a break to get/order food.

Buddy and I will be coming out to spectate, meet local sc2 players and the lovely triangle sc2 community. Us gold kids don't wanna be throwing our money away quite yet glhf to all who compete!

Alright sweet, hope to see you guys there. You know when we get a chance with everyone there, we should all talk about what future stuff we should do with the group. I bet we could eventually get enough people interested in a bronze-gold or plat tournament, and then a separate diamond+ tournament if that would be more fun for everyone.
|
Wish I could make it, sadly I'll be at the beach. Which isn't that sad now that i think of it. But hopefully there will be more events in the future.
On a side note, you guys probably know this but TotalBiscuits wife lives in Concord. Providing he ever gets off the DHS no fly list and back into the States it would be awesome for him to show up or cast some local games and players.

lol i didn't know that, thats pretty sweet. We could use someone to cast for our tournaments, if anyone was up for it it'd be better than nothing, maybe thats another thing we can all talk about on Sunday.

Hey, if you're gold like I am, come to spectate! Although, I definitely would love to participate in a bronze-gold tourney.

Hopefully we'll see you guys, plus some, back next time. Please feel free to drop in some suggestions for the next tournament, possibly right before MLG Raleigh.

We'll be working on getting a replay pack posted ASAP, and we'll try to get a live stream for the next one. We'll also try to work on the time, we might have to actually do bo1 for losers bracket, we thought we would have enough time for bo3 this go...12 hours later.
But gg all around, I'll post more when it comes. Thanks guys!
|
Any chance of a replay pack? In particular I'm interested in the Oresama vs. xDIce games
|
(sorry for signing up but not showing up. Something came up that I couldn't get out of.)
It would be awesome if the next one could be the day before or after MLG Raleigh, so that some of the pro players (in addition to ruff ) could show up. It might unbalance the field a tad... but it would be cool to hang out with them in a small venue.
|
This was a triumph! Please have a lower-level tournament, I will participate!
|
I had a lot of fun at this LAN! Thanks a lot for hosting RUaGamer, I will start going there more often now since it's only 15 minutes away from my house :D
|
Had a blast! Thanks to Jeff and Brad for making this happen. It was phenomenal seeing so many people show up. Sorry to having to bail so early, I had a 3+ hour drive ahead of me and didn't want to put it off too late. Looking forward to having this again whenever 2.0 kicks off :D

Guys if you get a chance help me get some feedback on these polls, i'd really appreciate it. This will really help us try to cater the next tournament to what you guys want.
Also please please please don't hesitate to email brad@ruagamer.net with any feedback on the last tournament, suggestions for the next, or any other questions/comments.
I'm going to work on the replay pack when I go in 2mrw, I looked through alot of the games today, going to try to get the best ones together 2mrw, I'll keep you guys posted.

<3 sir. Looking forward to the next event too. Hopefully we can attract an even bigger crowd!
|
Yeah we're trying to make some changes to accomodate a larger crowd, since we're expecting the colleges being back in session to bring an even bigger crowd. What we'll probably do is move the spectators to the back section, and move the couches back there. So we'll have two 55in TV's spectating games on and 4 couches instead of just 2. And we'll probably need registration between 10am and 11am, with matches starting at 11. Last time went a little longer than we'd hoped.
