Not a big fan of doubling the venue fee and only adding $5 to the prize pool without changing the format in some way. I talked to Jeff earlier in the weekend and mentioned the possibility of doing pools and changing to a 2 day format if you guys are wanting to go in this direction, any chance of that happening? $25 is pretty expensive for a local tournament with the chance of only getting to play 2 bo3's. My suggestion was to go MLG championship bracket style, have everyone do pool-style play on Friday night, then on Saturday you actually play out seeded brackets, where top players are seeded further ahead into the winners bracket, moving down to just starting in the winner's bracket, then starting in the losers bracket. This guarantees that everyone gets a significant number of tourney matches for a kinda significant tourney fee instead of plopping down $25 to possibly only play 4 games.

Jeff also said you still don't know how to do a replay pack :p let me know when you'll be at RUaG and I'll show you how to set up SC2Gears + a naming rule for it, it's probably the easiest way to make a replay pack happen in an organized fashion with little effort on your part. Just have it running in the background on all the computers during the tournament and you'll get all replays autosaved + named appropriately, throw them all in a .zip after the tournament and you're done.

I totally agree with you, I actually wanted to keep it $15 as we're still testing out the waters with the best way to go about the tournaments at the RUaGamer.

The feedback I've gotten from the higher ups is that the last tournament was too long and took up too much space to be getting only a $5 venue fee from the 20 some competitors (because there's no way we can charge spectators that'd be terrible).

I'm also asked to do it on a Sunday as Fridays and Saturdays are our biggest/busiest days. I'd actually really like to do an MLG style bracket if I could ever get it approved. We'll just have to see, and maybe we can get some good feedback in this thread for a few days and see what we need to do about it.

I thought about this some since I spoke with you yesterday - is BYOC still not an option? I'm sure a number of people (myself included) would be willing to bring their PCs and it would speed up the tournament quite a bit.

If you do that, you might be able to run a swiss style tournament, that way everybody gets to play several Bo3s. Swiss style will take way too long though without more PCs.

I will be there no matter what .

I'm in (strobot), but I agree that we shouldn't have to buy the equivalent of 4 hrs of gaming time (double the original fee) to play in the tournament. I mean look at the pictures from the tournament. How often do they get that many people in their store? Isn't it worth it for them to get all those new people into the venue? Not to mention any concession sales?

Its definitely worth it. My hands are pretty much tied about the pricing though. If I get enough feedback about lowering the price back to $15 then I'll have a stronger argument for lowering it. Obviously neither side benefits if only 5-6 ppl are willing to pay $25 to compete.
