Thank you everyone who came, watched, and/or supported the event! We had such a great success because of everyone's support. That said, we are looking forward to providing the community with another event in the near future. You can expect more players, higher cash and product prizes, smoother event progression, and more. We hope that you enjoyed the event as much as we did, and we'll see you all soon.
Special thanks to Verizon, Dolby, Tritton, Team EG, Kingston HyperX, and all of our Staff and supporters! Big thanks to PrimaDog for his support during the event! Be sure to thank him too!

Each player veto’s a map until there is one map left. The first person to veto in each 1st match is the person who is on top of the bracket layout. The 2nd and 3rd match veto’s work the same as the first, but the first person to veto is the loser from the last match. So basically it's like losers take-out in basketball. Players can only veto one map at a time.
For the finals, each player can veto one map leaving 5 left. The player that veto’s first should be decided by a coin toss before the matches start. The player that wins the toss can either pass his veto and veto last, or veto first like a kickoff. And the map order for the finals should go according to the order stated above while noting that if a map is pooled, it will be skipped in the order.

*Those that preregister will be automatically entered into a SPECIAL RAFFLE to win a JVC Sound Bar Home Theater Unit, which is priced at $300! Special thanks go out to Dolby for that awesome prize (and more throughout the event).
Thanks guys! Ichabod couldn't have said it better. If all goes well and Verizon gets the ROI they are looking for, you can expect more SC2 tournaments with larger prizes, more coverage, etc.
I can't express how excited I am for this event If you don't know, we had another event at Odyssey Gaming. Both the players and the staff gave great feedback! We aim to try and create an awesome environment for everybody there and can't wait to have another SCII tourney with our awesome new sponsorship! We hope there will be many more to come.
As previously stated by the OP, I'll be monitoring this thread closely and I encourage any of you to contact me with any feedback you have, either in thread or in a PM.
As far as a stream goes: we're still trying to look for a caster. Preferably a good pro-bono caster that is looking to get his name out there. We had EdwardStarcraft cast our last event, and it turned out quite nice.

We're really hoping for that, my friend. Also so close to Anaheim! I'll actually be at the NASL finals handing out flyers, if you see me, say hi! haha.

Was totally unintentional =/ We've had this date picked for a while now. Just haven't had a chance to finalize the details for the post. But I would encourage you to come check out this event! It's a really nice little LAN center. Check out the pics on website link.
I went to the last one these guys did. Very clean lan center. Nice computers. Friendly staff. Had a great time except for my gf rooting for me to lose . I wish it had a little more room for spectators, but they did have a HUGE projection screen for them which was awesome.
Definitely attending. Just wish whittier one wasn't same day so I could attend both ><

Yea! We will be setting up the projector again for this one. We're also talking to a caster at the moment to get the live stream on the projector as well as have it streamed on the TL tourney tracker.
Gotta love TL for it's great community and feedback. I really hope to see everybody at our event! Odyssey and Verizon are so excited for another entry into Starcraft's eSport scene!
Also, I understand the conflicts with Whittier, and they were completely unintentional. It's just much too late to change our date. Our sponsors wouldn't agree to moving it. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes people. I hope Whittier has a great turn-out regardless
lol mb i'll move to california early... was planning on heading out there the 24th... but this seems to have a huge prize pool regardless of how many people show up...
Tell your friends of friends of other friends to go. Just to be clear, the more people that go, the larger the prize pot. We're not pocketing any of the admission fees, so it can be a rather large prize pot. We might get some sponsors who will help out with the prize, but I'll post about that here if anything comes up

As priest said, I would actually recommend bringing your own stuff. The computers are great, but the keyboards are NOT ideal for Starcraft players. But to each his own BUMPING FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!
I attended their last tourney and it was absolutely amazing and the raffle was out of control highly recommend coming even if you aren't the best player seeing as though a lot of the NASL crew might show up! :D

Yes it shall! But hopefully we fill up so we (the SC2 community) can show these sponsors what eSports is all about! We gotta give them a good show, you know?
Well not all of us do Let's just get everyone to attend and have a good time.. then I am sure we can expect more and more support from Verizon and our other sponsors!
^ I'm sure that's the kind of stuff they need to hear to keep doing these events. Return on investment is their biggest priority and also their biggest fear in branching into eSports. So lets show them they're making a good move! I wouldn't want to game on anything less than FiOS anyways, it's the shit. lol.

Sorry about being so vague. I posted that reply from a work computer and forgot to elaborate further when I got home. Here are the maps in terms of MLG and GSL edits.
I figured going with mostly MLG maps would be appropriate seeing as that is what people will most likely be practicing on for the upcoming MLG anyway. Hope that's ok with everyone Also hope this is as balanced as possible
Woo I got Game-LAN to move it to august 6th, a week after MLG so I think i'll be coming to this one too, remember to come to whittiers after MLG, for the tournament there! =]

Well if it was extended series -.- Its basically the argument that the WB winner may have already beaten the LB winner and thus its unfair if the LB wins one and wins because its actualyl 1-1 in terms of series.

Yea I'm agreeing. 2 BO5s (if needed) is the way to go to preserve the double elim format. Giving WB a 1-0 lead (in a series) is dumb.

Gretorp tried to mess with it earlier, but no one seems to know the login info for the account associated with the joblesso stream.
Wish I could have made it out! :+( I'll be at Anaheim though with my case of Monster to ask Inc a question :D Hope to see more LANs here in the future.
Axslav 1-2 Sen, they casted thinking best of 3, but its best of 5, so idra got told as they loading up there map, he leaves. Now they playing Axslav vs Sen
Nice casting EG . I hope you make many Dozens of dollars in future casts to buy another headset!
The series between Sen and Axslav was called prematurely. The series is a lower bracket final, which as format was set is a best-of-5 series.
Currently the series is Sen 2-1 Axslav
This means that Sen needs 1 more map to win, Axslav needs 2. The administration was able to arrest the Sen vs IdrA series before it starts, thus we are able to continue the lower bracket finals as planned.

Is the other stream (the one with idra and inc) not featured on TL or does it not have enough viewers to make the main page? I'm sure many would be interested in seeing inc and idra cast.
Anyone have insight on the engagement between Sen and Axslav, where IdrA said "this is the type of army that you build to beat roaches?" I thought the same thing too, but somehow Sen's roaches crushed Axslav's army, and I'm not exactly sure how he did it so easily...

Axslav attacked down a ramp clumping his units so they could all be fungaled.

IdrA explained his thoughts on it right at the end, attacking down that ramp was a bad idea from Axslav, not all his units were attacking+they were clumped and took a lot of damage from fungals.

I think quite a few fungals went off, quickly reducing the protoss shields. Just my 2cents.

Axlav had half his army at the top of tht ramp doing nothing becuz his units at the bottom were blocking them from moving down (maybe from fungal).

idra and sen showed 5 awsome zvz's today with sen taking them in total 3-2, awsome games, sen switched from a more macro style to all out aggression to sweep idra after losing 0-2 to him in the upper bracket, shows how strong his BoX mentality is.

It was shitty regardless of who won, all the games were short and looked exactly the same. Had IdrA 3-0'd Sen with all-ins before the 10 minute mark, I'd say the same. There were a couple tense moments but the games lacked depth or a great display of skill (one wrong decision decided every game).
If every matchup was like ZvZ, nobody would watch (or play) Starcraft.
Lol idrA losing to early aggression every single game. That's what you get when you play so greedy. As always idrA gets knocked out of a tournament anti-climatically.

PvP used to suck almost as bad, but has improved. TvT is great! ZvZ makes me a sad panda.

Winner-bracket finalist gets a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 grand finals. A different way of doing double-elimination then giving a set lead or extended series.

Seriously, ZvZ started out as Roach vs Roach, then evolved into Baneling wars. It hasn't changed since, except now you have to throw in Infestors.
his drone block to deny 15 hatch while 15 hatching himself when he got close air sealed the deal in games 1 and 3. That was pure smart play, nothing all in about it at all

yeah that was pretty clever. I remember IdrA saying that 14 pool 14 gas loses to 15 hatch so Im sure Sens play frustrated him in games 1 and 3.
Personally I can appreciate high level ZvZ that is shown by Sen. Because it is a very thin and volatile matchup, you can see brilliant tactics being experimented and discovered to exploit small advantages here and there to give him the advantage.
Good thing that EG makes Idra do dumb shit like random shows and casting. Clearly helping him improve and focus on his gaming. Oh wait, no. I really hope that EG stops using their players are celebrities and tries to lean them more towards being killing machines. They aren't keeping up.

It wasnt shitty, just because the person you wanted to win didn't doesn't mean its bad.
It was shitty regardless of who won, all the games were short and looked exactly the same. Had IdrA 3-0'd Sen with all-ins before the 10 minute mark, I'd say the same.
If every matchup was like ZvZ, nobody would watch (or play) Starcraft.
PvP used to suck almost as bad, but has improved. TvT is great! ZvZ makes me a sad panda.
In this case I wasn't sure what to look forward to because I don't think Axslav could have beat IdrA.
And ZvZ has been shittier for longer than both of them.
Seriously, ZvZ started out as Roach vs Roach, then evolved into Baneling wars. It hasn't changed since, except now you have to throw in Infestors.
And now that infestors don't counter mutas as hard, there's also the random muta all-in you can lose to, plus roach/infestor fights all come down to a few key fungals...
Maybe it could be fixed if we finally learned to use Nydus.

Small advantages don't end the game. While Sen's play was good, he basically went all-in every game and won. He didn't use "brillant tactics", Idra simply guessed wrong (or didn't care enough and went auto-pilot, but that's not relevant to thsi discussion).

EG lost ? they were rated the highest in this tournament. idra 2nd axlave 3rd demuslim 4th lzgamer5th
that a huge win imo.
Yup. Pretty much. Might not be first place, but taking top placements is more than enough to be satisfied. But if you know why the people are commenting like they you'd understand.

I miss the Idra from GSL.
He 2-0ed Sen earlier in this tourney, right? And he beat everyone else there getting back into the finals where he then lost to the other best non-Korean zerg. I don't really see how this represents IdrA as being a bad player now in any capacity. Losing to Sen 3-2 overall is really not a big deal.
Wow interesting results, So Sen gets knocked down to the losers bracket being 0-2 by idra but then fights his way back to 3-0 idra in the finals, nice. Fan of both of them so i am sad to see one of them lose.
Still cant say who is the best foreign zerg is from this, seeing as both sen and idra can take series off each other. Plus ZvZ is so bad that the tiniest mistake can cost you a game.
I would say idra is still the better macro player while Sen deals with early aggression a lot better then idra. Why can they just combine there talents and make one super zerg player. Or at least another super zerg with nestea xp

After Sen it was pretty much an in house tourney. It's not like anyone else of note besides Sen showed up.
If EG couldn't beat the no names who showed up at the tourney they might as well disband.

Sen has outlasted Idra at 4 consecutive tournaments (that they both participated in). I'd say Sen holds a small but definitive enough edge over Idra to be called the best foreign zerg at the moment. Not really a surprise since Sen ladders against Koreans and Idra ladders against North Americans.

Sen didn't want to go into the late game because in the two previous games he played IdrA he got destroyed, he was just doing what he thought would win him the games and he did. I don' think you can find out who is the better player just from this tiny lan.

Ya, now that i think about i would have to agree, as much as i am an idra fan he is just so inconsistent. Some days idra is a beast like no other and other days he plays so bad. Sen allways has consistent play that is always high level giving him that small edge like you say. Plus he is not as easy to tilt as idra xp.
I wonder how dimaga stacks up to idra and sen now, he was the other zerg that was constantly thrown in with idra and sen as the top three foreign zergs, I dont follow him but i know he is a high level player.

lol haters gonna hate
So the truth = hate?
just because you arent well known doesnt mean you aren't good
I'm always impressed to see Sen clean house and it was even more impressive to see his run against team EG.
So... 1. 2-0 over EGStrifecro 2. 2-0 over EGiNcontroL 3. 2-0 over EGDeMuslim 4. 0-2 to EGIdrA in his first loss in the winners bracket 5. 2-0 over EGMachine 6. 2-1 in a rematch against EGDeMuslim 7. 3-1 over EGAxslav 8. 3-0 in a rematch against EGIdrA
Sen was just an absolute monster as per usual, he just needs some training on how to deal with void rays and he's set!
I knew Sen was gonna face Idra in the grand finals from the very beginning. As much as I am a Idra fan, Sen is better in ZvZ, and his other matchups are too good for any other players in the tourney to have touched him.
One of the best performances at this event in my opinion is Gosu.Shield a terran player who had quite a hard road, wins over grandmaster level: bubbles and jobless then takes out lzgamer 2-1 and quite narrowly loses to axslav 2-1 in winners semis. he then lost to demuslim but I think a fairly nice performance overall for this terran player who isn't too well known gjgj ^_^

This is a very very spectacular performance run by Sen in this tournament, he sorta all-killed the entire EG team alone.
While the format needed kinks worked out, and there were a few mistakes, I'd like to think that we had a pretty successful tournament. All the players seemed to have a good time and enjoy the casual LAN atmosphere, and all the spectators (along with myself) loved being so close to the action.
I just want to give a BIG BIG BIG thank you on behalf of Odyssey Gaming and Verizon to everybody that came out today and made this such a cool event. Also a HUGE thanks to Team Evil Geniuses for coming out and playing as well as for being so patient and humble with their fans that were at the tournament.
Another big thanks to the amazing commentating throughout the tournament by Axeltoss, Gretorp, iNcontroL, and IdrA. None of us could have hoped for a more class act, and all-star cast.
i dont understand, according to the bracket and the guy posting sens results above me, idra didnt lose 2 different best of x's so how is the tourney over?
the same thing happened at the end of homestory cup, naniwa never lost 2 different best of x's either
what is it with people who just dont understand how double elim works? : /

For winning the WB Idra started off up 1-0. They then played a BO5 as normal.
Because rather than having an extended finals format for double elim, we used an alternate format where the winner of the losers bracket played the winner of the semi-finals. Obviously the winner's bracket winner should have an advantage, so we started sen at 0-1 as a penalty for being in the loser's bracket. It's actually a fairly common format and both IdrA and Sen agreed to it.

At HSC they did extended series straight up (continued the series Huk and Nani had played before as though it was a BO7).
no, they did the same 'you get a free game' system as you said they did here. but again, thats not how a double elimination actually works.
even ignoring that its double elim, 1 free point in a match is clearly of less value than idras earlier 2-0 win.
im happy that sen won, i just dont understand what the problem is with playing out a tourney properly. also best of 1 lower bracket loloolol.
it also appears, atleast from the bracket, that the 'bigger' names got seeded straight to the second round? based on the fact that they were bigger names, and therefore didnt need the help....? so confusing
The main problem was time. We were constricted by time. We were hoping for the full 64 players and made the schedule according to that. Even with the 47 or so players we actually had show up, many of the players and staff were at the event for well over 12 hours. I myself as well as the staff arrived at 6am and were there until almost 11pm. If it was bo3 winners and losers, we would all still be there. haha. Unfortunately having a two day tournament with limited funding interferes with the normal business of a profitable LAN center. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused, but this format was as practical as we saw fit. We'll definitely work out all the kinks for next time.

Right you are. Fixed that.
And that's how seeding works, protects the better players.

THE GOOD : Personally i think best of 3 for loser brackets have their good and bad, players get to play a bit more, and no lose vs (lets say a cheese strat ) an all in and ur out
the BAD: All the lans that we go to with bo3 loser brackets takes literally FOREVER, some players have to wait like about 2 hours for the loser bracket to catch up so its a bit annoying.
So i think making loser brackets bo1 was good because of the time u save waiting for loser brackets to catch up.
To all the people that were there: Feedback is much appreciated. (Please be as constructive as possible).
To all the players: Did you enjoy the format/intimacy of a LAN setting? Was Odyssey Gaming a fit center for such an event?
To all the spectators: Did you enjoy the intimacy of a LAN setting? Was it an incentive to be that close to all the action?
I went with 4 of my players representing LaG.TT and all of us liked the tournament , good work all u guys, it was fun seeing new faces and friends from other lans, hopefully u guys can do more Lans in the future , once again well done.
More Feedback: 1 thing u guys need to work on is communication with the information about the event, i was told it was free to spectate but we ended up having to pay some spectator passes , not bad cuz comes with food and drink and raffle ticket but still u know, i didnt care playing but i know some other ppl got bother by that. Also u guys should of be in top of the players if they were playing or not, not just wait for the results because they were some players waiting about 30 to 40 mins to a player to show up in a couple of cases that i saw( dont know if there were more) but u guys waited too long before the defwin,
thats all i think , once again thnx for the tournament and hope to see more action in California gl hf
I don't understand why people thought that Idra was favored or slightly favored against Sen. Sen beat Idra in NASL, he beat Zenio in NASL twice (once online, once on LAN), despite Zenio 4-0ing Idra, and he beat JulyZerg on LAN, to boot. It's the other way around: Sen is favored or slightly favored against Idra, which makes the early 0-2 an indication that Idra has been upping his game and getting back into shape, which is good to see as he looked somewhat sloppy a few weeks ago.
Should be a good MLG Anaheim from Idra as long as he has a good attitude. As for Sen, sad we won't be seeing in him Anaheim, but hope he does well at the WCG Taiwan Quals
And thanks Verizon for putting on this tournament, hope to see more in the future!

Hey man, not trying to be a dick or anything...but SC2 doesn't have LAN.
I think what you meant to say is perhaps "live" or in person.

I think this win, plus his recent performances in NASL and Dreamhack, really help Sen as he doesn't usually play in foreigner tournaments and so the common argument against him was that "he hasn't achieved anything" (compared to, for example, Idra, who has a MLG and IPL win under his belt). But beating all of EG, coming top 3 in NASL (outlasting all foreigners there), and outlasting all foreigners but Huk in Dreamhack, should be evidence enough to the doubters that Sen is easily top 3 foreigner Zerg, and perhaps even top 1 foreigner Zerg at the moment.
