3 complaints :
1) No in-game music nor between games 2) Observer kinda sucks (if it's one of the casters, you should ask somebody do else to do it) 3) Gretorp's voice is probably one of the worst. Seriously, tell him to calm down cause i can't stand him especially when he gets WAY too much excited.
And i really think these should start a bit sooner so they don't conflict with too much stuff at the same time.

From my observations of online tournaments involving Koreans, it seems like latency is a HUGE factor, and has been game changing several times. If this was something the NASL was interested in doing, I think it would be a good work around to the current shortcomings of Bnet 2.0 P.S. Great play vs Rainbow Well i think that is not a good idea One purpose of the tournament was to remove the barrier between foreigners and Koreans. The tournament is not about Korea vs Foreigners. The problem lies with Blizzard, this big tournament will allow Blizzard to take some action and maybe provide us Lans.

Obviously no latency would be better. That goes without saying, you miss my point.
NASL will probably be on season 24 by the time Blizzard revamps Battle.net (if ever)

Was anyone else hearing the casters' mics overdrive a lot when voices were raised? Would be awesome if that could be fixed, but not sure if it was a problem on my end or not

People are being a little too harsh on gretorp right now. Give him a little time to work on his casting and mesh with incontrol as well. I think this being the first cast of the NSL there was alot of nervous excitement, and I think that hurt the quality of the cast. I'm sure there will be improvement.
I will say that they need to work on volume normalization for the casters, the peaks in volume were unacceptable and destroyed my ears.

And i really think these should start a bit sooner so they don't conflict with too much stuff at the same time. Sooner would imply that for those on the West Coast (doesn't include me) would be watching it at/prior to 5pm since it starts a 6PM PST as it is. That's going to conflict with people getting off of work or having dinner etc.
I personally enjoyed the first broadcast last night, and I'll be honest, being the first run I was expecting some form of technical issues and had none (no stream lag in any resolution including 1080p for my connection at least). I do agree with some points that the in-game music would be good and perhaps some transitional tunes, as well as some work is needed on the sound levels of the microphones, but all in all I'd say job well done .
The games themselves were entertaining, unfortunately the severe lag ruined the final set and I think NASL may need to look at the rules governing a re-game. Rainbow didn't stand a chance with those latency issues period. Looking forward to the next one .

Agreed! It was the first session, give KellyMilkies Gretorp some time!

if you see a guy constantly winning with aggression early game you shouldnt tell him to grow a pair and play real, in reality its the guy that cant defend that has to learn how to defend it or stop taking so big risks in early game
anyhow i like nasl so far, ive already told them what i think about the latency issues from EU to KOR and im sure they know it by now. you guys shouldnt complain or blame NASL for it. remember it was you guys who wanted players from all over the world and the koreans knew aswell that it would lag alot for them to play. it also lags alot for the european to play vs koreans too which many doesnt even think about. if i was living in korea i wouldnt participate in foreigner events. i would go to lans like MC or ace instead.
in the future i think people are going to realize its not playable to have 3 different regions batteling online and i think we will only have koreans vs foreigners at lans instead. encourage people who organize lans to invite koreans rather than online leagues or tournaments imo
Good Post I agree with everything. That game vs rainbow was so boring to watch because of the lag, just totally ruins the game. Nothing was wrong with your aggressive play!

Koreans having a really hard time. The rainbow vs morrow games was streight out unplayable it looked like. He wasnt microing anything after going for a micro heavy build...
I think they need to practise builds that works in lagg. Things you dont need heavy micro to swing the battles. We will prolly see this from other koreans who have more practise on NA server.

I actually like Gretorp much more than Incontrol. I'm probably the only one though.

I thought it was very well done, Pretty impressed with their first outing. It has convinced me to purchase a subscription come payday.
My one criticism is that I think they should have had Artosis win as it would have been better for E-sports if he had. Do it for E-sports guys.

I think you guys are getting it all wrong. Local area network tournament doesn't imply that two computers have to be connected to each other via ethernet cable omitting battle.net server nowadays. It means the tournament has to be held entirely in the same LOCALE as the bettle.net sever: I.E. L.A., Seoul, etc., where all parties are connected via optical carrier, for which a couple of dozens kilometers doesn't even matter as long as it is a solid line. GSL is a fine example of such tournament. I'm pretty sure that is what MorroW meant. I'm not saying ethernet support is superfluous, but it is irrelevant to this subject.

a few things i didnt like:
As much as gretorp ruined the experience, im sure it will improve but... -Their feels like no chemistry between the casters, they dont go into conversation i think because gretorp usually talks about random events
- the camera man was terrible, theres a few times i was surprised they had broodlords (spoiler free) and i didnt even notice til they were done, and when some banelings were going to a mineral line, he moved the cam to a different spot before they exploded, then moved back as they were all dead.
-their was no hype at the beginning, and no hype at the end -Production value was very slim, (special effects) -Blazer + tshirt combo isnt professional, actually looked scrubby (artosis and tasteless wear it like boses)
Other than that, they games were good, my fantasy league is looking good lol

II can not understand how so many people are complaining about the event. The broadcast was very well done, I had no lag and the quality was better than the HD of the overwhelming majority of the tournaments. The narrators were good, most are not perfect but they are better than most of the tournaments that are out there.
Do not know why but I feel a little animosity with the NASL, it seems that the people here is hoping that the event be a failure.... damn a tournament of this size and with great prizes, with quality free transmission and helping the growth of e-sports. How u guys dont like it?
Congratulations NASL today was the best I've seen free transmission, the games were exciting, and the whole event was very successful. Whenever i have time I will see it.
Thanks

Decent first day. Would like: Background /game music on Stop playing that psi-storm your army song Better audio. Maybe better mics. Adjust gretorps volume when he yells. I wear headphones and it's too loud. Get rid of flycam map intro. Just do it mlg style.
|
I thought that the first day went pretty well. Incontrol and Gretorp did a decent job casting and I'm sure it will continue to get better over time. The stream seemed pretty stable after the first half hour or so.
I'd like to share a few first impressions and concerns in hopes that they are heard and taken into consideration by the NASL staff.
I wasn't impressed by the sound quality. It seemed to me like they were using $15 microphones. In comparison to GSL or Dreamhack, the caster sound quality was very low. The difference in volume between regular times and really excited times seems too much for me. I was listening at a volume that was comfortable during normal times, but when excitement happened, it was way too loud.
The lack of music made it seem boring. I think adding in-game music and something to fill gaps out of game would be great. During early game especially, some music would help a lot.
The studio that they cast in is really boring. The background is dark and uninteresting. They also wear black clothing. It is so subdued that my first impression is that they could have been receptionists in a funeral parlor. It's great that the casters dress nicely, but with that background... it's just so dull.
I understand that it's hard to make an environment without an audience seem alive, but some tweaks to the studio and sound would go a long ways! Some music during transitions and a more lively background would be great, in my opinion. I know that it's not really possible to get a GSL feel with the live setting, but aiming for that kind of exciting and flashy production would be great!
I didn't purchase the subscription yet, but I think I will. I'm really pleased by how smoothly the first day went.

Please don't confuse dissent with disloyalty. I think that most of what you and many others perceive as "hate" is actually constructive criticism.

Great start to NASL. I'd prefer everything be broadcast live, but this is still a great alternative. I'd like to give my thanks to the NASL crew for working hard and giving the community a great production. Can't wait to see it evolve.
