From Tak on MLG forums:

As stated on the Starcraft stream, they are having internet issues at the venue and players have chosen not to play until they are resolved to allow for the best matches. Grubby and DDE played one game, started the second game and then paused the game due to a massive lag spike, no games have been played since or are currently being played for Starcraft on the mainstage.

don't get me wrong, these delays and errors are inexcusable. but if you really think MLG has consistently been ill-prepared, you are seriously mistaken. other then some minor hiccups every once in a while, this is the first time I've seen things go this wrong with MLG in years. literally.

Its not even the first time in the same city...

what are you referring to exactly? i'm speaking moreso from a halo players perspective. they have been running this tournament for years and it's been reliable, efficient, and has done a TON for that community. i love SC as well, but i don't like how the organization is being bashed to a pulp when it has definitely earned its credibility if you have tried watching more than a few events.

Halo is a joke, not an ESPORT. We only watch ESPORTS here. MLG is bad for said ESPORTS.

Dam incontrol probably won't beat Naniwa, his PvP is kinda lacking.

PVP is a match where the underdog can win. He's got a puncher's chance like everyone else in PVP.

MC's PvP record disproves this. It's a matchup that can be dominated as much as any.

The thing is, its a match that is dominated by smart decision making and superior micro.. something that is generally lacking by most players because they practice build orders instead of understanding game sense..

You can tell this by all the rage about InControl's pylon vs TLO yesterday.. InControl said it best; "The opportunity presented itself, and I took it.".. Dont bash InControl because hes smart.

PvP is really about who can outsmart your opponent, and micro the best. Thats why MC almost always wins, and the only time in recent history we've seen him lose is when White-Ra showed him alittle creative warp prism play.

People just dont understand MC is not your average "practice 12 hours a day til my builds are smooth" player.. Hes really a strategic genius, and thats what wins him games. He takes the best positions and opportunities giving to him and it makes him look imbalanced because everything always falls into place.

Thats why hes the most likely SC2 "Bonjwa" and seems unbeatable while everyone else thinks the game is a rock-paper-scissors game..

You don't play protoss obviously. PvP build order is everything, and you chose your build order blindly. If you chose the same build order the better control wins, and if one player is better/worse build order disadvantages can be overcome, but its primarily rock/paper scissors. "Strategic genius" doesn't scout your opponents base. MC wins alot because he guesses correctly alot (reading your opponent is a skill within itself which MC obviously has in bundles) but right now the better player is never guaranteed to win a PvP. For example the MC vs white-ra game. Most non tosses were probably ooing and awwing over white-ra's warp prism harass and control. People who play toss turned off the game after MC defensive fourgated and white-ra one gate roboed.

I love PvP, its my favorite match.. I feel confident in any build I do, as long as I dont mess up (forgetting pylon, etc).. but I alternate between standard K4G and 3stalker, along with mixes inbetween and I almost rarely ever get caught off guard with a K4G. My PvP win rate is over 85% (above 3500, but I was top 200 for a month when I played most, with wins over most of the protoss currently in this MLG event) Its the only matchup Im actually good at lol

It really comes down to unit control like you said, but what you can get away with in terms of the build, and when to attack, is the key to the fight. Anyways, my point is, the better micro and smarter decision making will always win in PvP.. You MAY lose a game to a lesser player, but if that happens its 100% your fault, most likely a micro misclick.. A good player will never do a build that dooms him from the start, thats just silly.

My point being, theres MUCH more in PvP than just a build order.. Although I understand why people think that when they have bad control..

I'd agree tht the early game is based on better micro and decision making. However, i think the main problem of PvP is not the 4gate shit in the early game (not tht i like it) but it's after tht. It becomes rock, paper, scissors. U choose either a robo, stargate or blink build, most of the time without knowing wat ur opponent is doing. Thts when the build orders really come into play. You automatically get an advantage or a disadvantage depending on which one you choose.

Ganzi beat me without stim. Ostojiy beat me with a nydus. Siphonn beat me with probes. Revival beat my sentry-immortal all-in.

Why would u blame blizzard ? MLG connection is a big failure, bnet is working fine.

No LAN support.

Sure, we all want LAN support.

The service that Blizzard provides (battle.net) is actually working fine though. You can't blame them for MLG's internet.

Of course we can, any possibility of this happening would be gone with LAN support. They introduced the internet as a necessity as a huge variable for tournaments and stuff like this happens.

From MLG's live blog :

As you may have noticed, we are experiencing additional internet problems in the venue. The match between Grubby and DDE has been moved off of the Main Stage in order to better monitor the internet connection. We will be bringing you updates from the match as it happens. DDE currently holds a 1-0 lead in the series, and the winner will take on Sixjax Mihai in a battle for the final spot in Pool Play.

Did mlg show any games today? I was checking stream from time to time, and all I saw were djWheat, commercials and spectators.

Will they release vods or replays?

This is all extremely unfortunate, but it's got me wondering, maybe sc2 is just too big for MLG? Sad to say, the event organisers clearly just aren't capable of handling it. Maybe it's best if MLG just lets starcraft go, and the pros can focus on the NASL? I am of course making the (perhaps ill-advised) massive assumption that the NASL will run smoothly.

I like how you keep posting, as if we care about Halo, or as if streaming halo would be difficult. Please stop fanboying for MLG, it's pretty pathetic.

Sorry, just got home and wanted to watch MLG. Quickly scanned through like 15 pages of complaints but what happened exactly!? Really only internet problems or what is it? What about the games that still have to be played? Thanks for some information.
