Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't. |

Geoff announced on SOTG that the NASL starts the second week of April, a.k.a. a week from Monday. Ah, glad I got to hear that on a podcast that I barely listen to and not on the main website of the NASL. Dude you don't love Starcraft if you don't listen to State of the Game. Unless you play Terran, it which case apologize for playing that race. Lol what? I love stracraft but I am bored to death after 5 min of SOTG. I only care about actual games not about gossip or whatever.

^^ Agreed. Just hoping Destiny would be a "fan favorite" pick

I dont know why I dont feel to excited about this. Maybe its the invitee-format that once again favours big names over skill(possibly), or maybe its the lack of professionalism with fundamentals like getting the information out there etc; I WANT to be excited, I HOPE this is the birth of serious ESPORT in the west, and maybe as the bandwagon starts moving ill be dragged along.
But as is; general feeling is mostly meh. So many great things are going on on the SC2 scene right now, that to stand out you really need to put passion and professionalism together in a superiour way; I think NASL have failed at that so far, but im hoping its just a few roadbumps now at the begining. (Atleast they have not done a MLG and taken the SPORT out of ESPORT altogether).
Edit: Agree on minigun. He is a beast and could probably consistently beat quite a few players of those who got in. But obviously there will be limitations to a 50-player tournament, and I think that they have been transparent with their thoughtprocess for the invitees, hopefully minigun will qualify for future events.

Uhh... ya actually it is. Basically you are saying "I don't think it is right that they are inviting people who will bring in views (help esports over merit) when they should focus on helping to provide money to players who don't give as much back to the company."
At the end of the day it's a company, and of course there are many details we could focus on like eventually people will want to see higher level games if the "popular" people are under-performing, but they are already going to have up and down matches (or something to the effect) so what they are doing is actually smart. What they are doing right now is saying "hey guys... check this out! Some cool people are playing" and as time goes on, those popular players may stay if they are good enough, but eventually the best players will work their way to the top.
It is easy to understand how people may not like an invite process for many reasons... but since it will be an open tournament to get in after this, I don't think there is a reason to complain. It seems to be the best situation possible to please the most people and get the most viewers/customers.

If theyre a real company they should start acting like one.
You cant let your organizers post anywhere in anyways you want without restraint (organizers also include casters), you cant keep telling people ''yeah but that was just the first thing the real thing is coming'', you cant keep making excuse, you cant keep screwing up (and especially not admiting you screwed up).
If they want to be treated as a real company, they need to start being one.
edit : and yes, I know im coming out harsh and will probably be heavily critisized by people telling me ''im not helping esports'' or ''everyone cant be happy'' or other such unrelated comments, but the thing is I really do want the NASL to work-out, and with what Ive seen so far, the only way I personally think its gonna really go off is if they actually figure out through people's complaints that they didnt put enough preparation into this and really need to step it up

They may have handled somethings weirdly, but in all fairest, the success or failure will be based on the games, and i for one will be watching.
TSL has got over 55k viewers for certain games with big names.
When Tyler plays idra i expect huge numbers. Then again every match in division 5 is a great one lol.
The big success or failure won't be the PR, it will be how successfully the round robin goes, and most importantly the 16man LAN event.
With players like these I expect most matches to show incredible skill level and gameplay, which i beleive is the backbone of any sc2 league.

Too much whining going on in here. Not enough appreciation for how truly awesome this is going to be.

I won't go into the details of every point (since lot of people have already covered that) but in a short and succinct way, I will list what all I believe is/was expected from NASL and is missing.
1. NASL start date - It was originally slated to be 5th April which was 'possibly' delayed to 14th April according to Incontrol on SOTG. However, there is no official date put on the start of NASL.
2. A website - It has been stated in this thread itself that NASL.tv is not the actual slated site for their league. Either way, either the current site needs to be revamped significantly or new site needs to put up with all the relevant information.
3. Maps - Less than 2 weeks left for the league and there is no inkling on the map pool. I am not sure whether the pros have been notified of the map pool but based on the seeming communication gap between the players and the organizers, it seems unlikely. The last thing we would want as consumers of this league is crappy maps or players being totally unprepared for the maps leading to cheesy builds/bad games in the first few weeks of the league.
4. Build up of hype either on TL or on their site for the players, divisions, etc akin to what TSL has been doing. The application videos were a decent hype platform but that was player generated content and was more for the application process. The organizers should generate some hype about the tournament with lead-in interviews of different players, possibly some background information etc etc. I believe this should have been done while announcing the players themselves.
At the very least, please link the application videos to the player names on the website so that people can easily gain some information about the players. As of now, the only place to get that information is a fan generated post in this thread.
5. Schedule - What time are the games being played. When is it being broad-casted in NA? When will it be streamed in EU?
6. Stream information - the only information about the stream is that it is an HD stream. It does not specify what platform is being used (Octoshape, ustream, justin.tv, self-developed player like gomtv, etc). What are the different stream qualities, bit-rates, etc? What is the pricing policy for HD stream, VODs? I would have hoped that by now, some sample stream qualities would have been up so that people interested in buying the HD pass could get excited on the stream quality, etc? Also, it would have been a good way to show off some of the production value being developed for the league.
Some other minor points of interest which I would have hoped but not necessarily expected would have been:
1. Prize pool distribution - There is no information about that except that the total is $100,000.
2. List of rules/ guidelines - What happens in case of a tiebreak? What happens in case of a d/c? And so on.
3. First week matchups - Something that would build a lot more hype for the league i.e. starting off with some really anticipated games such as Moon vs Grubby (or) Idra vs Zenio.
I hope this post is not taken as a attack on NASL but a constructive take on what all can be improved on by NASL so that it is a better experience for the fans/supporters involved.

just to answer this: quote from Q&A Offizial NASL thread
"Stream quality: The quality of GSL's high quality paid stream is 650 kb/sec. Our free stream is going to be at 800 kb/sec, our paid stream will be 3 megabit / sec. We're offering much better stream quality than any other tournament can give you!"

Just to ease alot of the recent complaining, the players have all the information. Yes I agree that everyone should know as well, but have some faith in NASL. They are giving us a league with great players, prizes, and casters. Let them run it how they think will be best. Again I gauss the point of my post is that everyone should have a little more faith and trust in NASL. Has Xeris ever let anyone down before?

Now this is more like it. While it might seem like I was defending NASL regarding the player invites, I absolutely agree with everything said above. Not only that, but they could really use a PR person and start using it as soon as possible.

How can they honestly expect us to buy a streaming package for a tournament that we don't even know the exact date/time of, the billing methods and what players will be playing on each day.
I don't have faith because NASL hasn't given me a reason to have it. I don't know if Xeris has let anyone down before, because I don't know him personally. What I do know is that the NASL wants to give me something I might want to pay for, but I have no idea what or when it is.

I'm VERY excited to see that whoever is running this tourney clearly knows a thing or two about efficiency. The very worst thing that could happen, is a debut tourney where players don't show up, equipment fails, etc.
My faith that this tourney will succeed is bolstered by the fairly cutthroat application process. Miss the deadline - you lose.

I know i ts extremely hypocritical but I liked it better when people like a tournament for being an awesome tournament and not being ESPORTS friendly, I just like the idea that people earn their spot in the best tournament on the planet through skill rather than name. Sure you can moan about the fact that these fan favourites are unknowns in the skill department, unproven beasts in the waiting, but frankly the people that have literally done sweet FA being picked over well seasoned players is pretty lame. I admit for the most part the NASL has got a really solid group but there are some striking ommisions - be they people who didn't apply, applied late or were just not picked.

I think Demuslim and Nightend would answer that in the positive. Other than that, thank you for at least affirming the players are in the know. Why they haven't released that information to the public or have it prominently displayed on their "teaser" website boggles the mind. At times it just feels like they are "holding" information just to have another announcement of crap in the future instead of just flushing everything out at the same time.
