Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't. |

I know MLG Dallas is this weekend, but if this tournament is supposed to start in the next three weeks, it would be nice to know where I can get the HD package, how much it is going to cost, what day of the week/time it will be broadcast, and which players will be going first.
Also, this idea that the NASL is "growing e-sports" thing is a pretty silly thing to say. So far, the only people who know anything about this tournament already read team liquid. We are already the assumed audience.
Why do I say that? The only web presence the NASL has is their website. All it contains is a teaser video and a list of names.
There are three types of potential fans, only two of which "Grow Esports".
Type one: Us. We already watch tournaments, keep up with players, and know all the results. We are already a part of e-sports.
Type two: If you were a fan of say, counterstrike or some other e-sports game and had never been to Team Liquid, but you were at MLG Dallas this weekend. You hear about this new sports league called the NASL. You go to the website and watch the video. Oh wow, nice prize pool. Ok. So when does it start? Oh, it doesn't say. Who are these players? Oh, it doesn't say. These people are already a part of e-sports, but not SC 2. So they grow our game, at the least.
Type three: Random Gamer. They hear about NASL after they stumble face first into the NASL website because they were looking up info on their favorite US Soccer team. They can't figure out what game it even is, because the website and video barely even mention Starcraft II. They see a list of silly names. Oh, a FAQ! They read it. They have never watched a professional e-sports event before, unless you count that one youtube they saw about some Asian guy doing an infinite combo with Akuma in Street Fighter IV. He would like to see a sample of this game on the website. Oh wait, it doesn't exist.
In summary, you guys spend way too much time dealing with TL.net. Regardless of people here being haters or not, they are still going to watch this tournament. Especially if it is free. They don't grow e-sports because they are already a part of it. Meanwhile, you have zero web presence and zero communication outside of this inner circle.
Hell, we are the inner circle and we don't even know when this thing ACTUALLY begins. That is a problem, and like 90% of the NASL problems, it comes down to a failure to communicate. You don't grow esports overnight. You start with an idea and you pitch it to your base. Get the base excited and involved. The first season is about getting the base involved and watching and making sure that the idea works. Season 2 irons out the issues and inconsistances and improves the product. Season three expands to regions outside of the base. If NASL is going to grow esports its gonna take some time. For season one NASL is for the TLers, season three might be for everyone.
Okay, but no matter how hard it is to put together a tournament, that doesn't really excuse screwing up stuff as simple as "put the start date somewhere so people know what it is". I was trying really hard to figure out when this thing started. I eventually found "april 5th" in the team liquid results and standings thread. That is apparently not even the right date, as announced on... State of the Game? Are you serious? I really want this league to work but right now I don't even know when to tune in, I don't know what maps are being played, and if I didn't read Team Liquid obsessively I would have never found out that the players were announced because NASL didn't bother to hype them anywhere. What is going on?

Geoff announced on SOTG that the NASL starts the second week of April, a.k.a. a week from Monday. Ah, glad I got to hear that on a podcast that I barely listen to and not on the main website of the NASL.
Dude you don't love Starcraft if you don't listen to State of the Game.
Unless you play Terran, it which case apologize for playing that race.

I play protoss, and only listen to SOTG when Tyler is talking about protoss, because he is awesome and actually talks about the game on a high level. Incontrol mentioning it in a 5 second blurb on a two hour show is not good enough for a 100,000 dollar prize pool tournament.

I have to say that the way they spread the koreans across the divisions is great.
We've got one gosu and one mega gosu in each division.

thats not his point... you rather hear news on the actually site then from a third party source.

I kind of feel like I should be disappointed by this league thus far, but I don't know why.
Maybe it is the peer pressure in me trying to bandwagon. I've never been one to like when an organizer plays in his own tournament, though.
Especially with $400,000 in prizes.

Yeah, maybe send out an email to everyone that subscribed announcing the players that had been chosen. PR doesn't mean TV and radio ads. We're 10 days away from the first match, and they haven't even set the price for the HQ stream yet.
Meanwhile, I hope they are working on the production stuff behind the scenes. They should be running practice matches with the commentators casting every day making sure everything is ready to go on launch day.

I don't understand why you guys are defending the NASL as if it is being attacked. As far as I have seen, many of these are good suggestions. Maybe not brought up in the best manner but that does not dismiss the simple things missing that can be fixed.
Things as simple as the actual start date placed on the website. Adding a small countdown as TSL does will even bring repeat visitors back to check and see when they should tune in. It should not be a hassle for everyone to get this information.
Maybe the integration of social media sites (twitter/facebook/etc.etc.) as well, so that it is easier to spread the word from casual viewers that happen upon the website. This allows players and fans to advertise for you, which as I see it is the basis for this leagues appeal/growth. It is so easy I am really surprised it hasn't been done yet.
The viewers are asking for these things. And obviously they are expected and do make an impact.

Lots of people are attacking decisions it has made, not making suggestions, outright attacking them.
http://twitter.com/nasltv they are on twitter currently.
The reason nothing has really been put on the website is thats just the teaser site, they are working on finishing they're actual website and will debut it asap, Which i assume will include schedule's as well as a bunch of other things.

I agree wholeheartedly that they need to improve their web presence. They seem to be operating on a shoe-string right now.

Damn it, should have booted Grubby and kept Demuslim. At least we know EG and NASL weren't in cahoots.

Zenio and Idra in that same group makes me chuckle! Can't wait to see the schedule and looking forward to some dope games.

ummm Grubby has one of the biggest fan followings in esports and is definately someone that will bring a lot more attention and excitement to the league... booting Grubby for Demuslim would of been a terrible decision...

Although it sounds like he was a bit frustrated by the situation, his well wishes for the future of the NASL and his intention to be a part of future seasons speaks volumes to the integrity and sportsmanship of DeMusliM. If he can handle this issue with grace and respect, maybe the SC2 community can as well?

The player list attacks are pretty stupid, that's for certain. But the overall management of the NASL has been quite poor, just a lack of communication and very inconsistent information. I too, thought the NASL started April 5th (but apparently it's the 2nd week of April now?).
Also I'm hoping the website once released, will be much cleaner and better designed than the teaser site...it currently looks like a clan website and I have a feeling it's going to feature way to much flash and little bells that EG loves to use in their events (and please don't bother saying "shut up, you can't do better", that's not the point...we're the customers, they should be doing it better for us in the first place). Just look at the handling of TSL as something that should be admired (and not just cause we're TL people). Anyway, let's see how it goes, good luck.

NASL needs to step it up with the website design and content, I would like to see a page with a calendar, player profiles (with interviews), betting section, links to sponsors/ sc2 sites. Also, the video on the main page is not necessary anymore and is kinda annoying

This is one of the reasons this whole tourney buildup has left a bad taste in my mouth, its made people actually believe getting people in for ESPORTS sake (I wish this argument would die already) is the right thing to do, rather than based on merit.
Also really sad to see this situation with DeMusliM, it may not seem like a lot to the Americans, Germans or Canadians with their legions of players in the league but its a real blow to us Brits who wanted someone closer to home to root for. Really dropped the ball on that one NASL.
Another complaint is that I understand you may not have the time or resources to promote your tournament as well as it should be (though you probably should've cut a bit off your prize pool and hired some proffesionals to do so), it really can't be that hard to get an actual twitter background rather than what looks like a 1440x900 screencap of your site and extremely similar colours which make some of the text unreadable. Another thing is that, as others have said, your site itself doesn't do a whole lot to give either new or old fans information regarding your league which is probably one of the biggest issues you have at the moment.
It really annoys me (and yes I know you'll probably be like LOL ANGRY NERD ONLINE RAGING AT US EVEN THO WE ARE ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING - as incontrol seems to be doing to anyone who believes this tournament is with fault) that you've been given such a huge opportunity (and responsibility mind you) and so far you haven't really delivered anything aside from a major shit storm. This may have been your gameplan but so far I think you're probably pissing off more people who really want to love this whole thing than you should be.
Hopefully you'll turn this all around in the coming weeks but you really have riled a fair few people (who frankly wanted this tourney to be everything it promised) up the wrong way. For starters using TL.net (and non-NASLstaff posters at that) as a mediator for basically all your hype, organisation and feedback without even being registered in the sponsored threads section is just silly, information regarding the technical aspects of how the tournament will be distributed still hasn't been released and your explanations for certain applicants getting in and others not have been lackluster.
I'm not sure what else to say but I'm just really hoping you pull it all off in two weeks, because if you don't I'm sure you'll have your legion of ESPORTS drones talking about how ESPORTS is in its infancy and it'll all get better in season two but deep down you'll know you've missed a great opportunity.
