I dunno - there's actually not much info so I'm finding it hard to be legit.

It seems legit, just incredibly sudden. Anyhow, i'm there.
Map pool is shitty though, I'll email an admin and see if I can get him to fix it.

I think it's legit guys, there was discussion of this tournament last year when I was with cybergamer and I attended an AOC media event there. They talked to me about running it for them but I had to go back to Canberra when it was scheduled and it ended up being postponed. The prizepool was smaller at that time.

Where did you get those figures from DeL? I can't seem to find them on the site.

...4v4? $7000? REALLY?
Huh... It's weird because I just imagine 4 players deciding to all go Zerg and 6pool and win themselves a tidy sum. That would be pretty hilarious

I got a response from an admin, he says they will discuss the problem of the maps.

Great! Defiately the map pool stinks atm.
Ask them to fill in some details as well
*Like what are exactly the prizes? *Bringing own equipment *End dates for registrations *Update on registrations(however at this rate they be lucky to get 30 people not 300 that they intend lol) and who's coming "Famous Australian Gaming Teams"

With as much emphasis as i can put on this to the Admins themselves or anyone who talks to the admins: The MLG map pool (perhaps with the exception of testbug as it hasn't been proven yet) is by far and away the most balanced map pool any tournament has ever seen ever ; PLEASE CONSIDER IT.
However if you do not agree with the modifications of the map pool i would strongly recommend using the TSL Qualifier (TLOpen) Map pool with of course replacing Lost Temple with Shattered Temple. These are all ladder maps that the community is accustomed to and can practice on with ease and don't really inhibit any race greatly.

Im really confused by the suddenness of this and the 7k prize for 4v4s.... If the goal is to help build a proper sc2 scene in australia, then wtf are they giving 4v4s money for. That shit is amusing, but heavens its a terrible display of skill or the good parts of sc2.
Its also annoying its so soon, I just threw away a few grand on buying a new PC, so no flights to syd from brissie, might have to drive down :| online qualifier would have been nice lol

Dont worry, a few of our better players are planning on entering the 4v4 to prevent such a situation
|
I am talking with the sponsor/promo team early next week to try and get the word out about this and give my input so any issues you want raised direct them via PM to me or post here in the thread. I will try and get some more information for the OP so if you want some specifics let me know and I'll see what I can find out.
Also I will be talking with the game scheduler, map and group organisers to give my input there as well to make it more fitting of a competitive SC2 event.
In the meantime just spread the word guys and try and get as big a participation as possible! If it works out well for everyone involved there will be more in the future!
In addition, see what nGenBenji has gained about the event!
The main way to distinguish whether you are entering 1v1 or 4v4 competition is by simply entering a team name or not. So if a competitor does not enter a team name in the registration form, they will be allotted to the 1v1 tourney.
We have 4 main sponsors of the event. Corsair, Logitech, Razer and AMD! All have provided us with certain contributions, and due to Altech’s existing relationship with them, we will be working together to simply put on a successful event. We will be filming the event, so will PC Powerplay and APC. Representatives from other IT publications, such as Atomic will also be present to film. I have spoken to certain members of Team Liquid.net and we are in the process of working something out in that regards. APC and Atomic have already posted articles online.
As far as the prize pool goes, the current plan is: 1st -3rd place in both the 1v1 and 4v4 will be receiving cash prizes. 4th-10th in the 1v1 will be receiving hardware prizes sponsored by Logitech, Razer, AMD and NRG. 4th-6th in the 4v4 will be receiving hardware prizes sponsored by Corsair and Razer.
Just on a side note, Razer will be supplying a lot of the gaming peripherals on the day. They have offered to supply InTime Cyber Café with their latest range of mice, keyboards, etc.

That's a lot of money.. and now with moonglade in korea hopefully someone else will step up hehe :p
Whoa and some big name sponsors ! This deserves more hype!!

Get that hype machine rolling!
On another note, I will be the happiest man on the planet when a starcraft tournament is announced on the TV
|
Got a reply that they will be using the map pool that is on the site. I hope they change their mind -_-
|
Same here. Their explanation is pretty dumb. "these maps were in the ladder before, so it should be ok". Ugh.
Hate it when organisers don't follow SC2!
|
|
shuffle takes this entire tourney, you heard it here
|
Very odd to give $7k for a 4v4 :/. I know 2v2s are all about cheese/all in builds I can only imagine that 4v4s would be worse. That being said I wouldn't mind a 3 hour drive to take a shot at $7k :D
|
You could have ten more big-name sponsors and still be far from respectable. I don't understand why these sponsors want to put forward money for such a poorly thought out tournament. Retarded map pool and 4v4? What the fuck?
Can't take this seriously.

Just registered but i'm only 2300 diamond. Lets hope for a few byes or noobs in my group

No way can this be allowed to go through... Has anyone talked to admins about this? This is paramount to telling track runners that they have to run barefoot when they've trained their entire lives in spikes. I use a Specific mechanical Keyboard and I am completely adjusted to both the feel and distance of keys (specifically f-keys). If you take that away from a player (or at least certainly in my case) their relative skill level will drop significantly.
I'm completely blown away as to why they would put a rule like this in place. I understand that the sponsors need to promote their equipment but why keyboards when you let player specific headsets? A decision like that makes no sense and respectively only ends up leveling the playing field.
|
Yeah, I'm still really sketchy for several reasons:
1. On the website (for the actual "Gaming Cafe" running it), when describing the prizes they spell Razer as "Razor". What LAN Cafe on earth would make such a colossal blunder? 2. In pictures of their previous SC2 events, every single person is Korean and if you zoom in on some of the pics, the posters on the wall are also written in Korean script. Kind of dodgy for a downtown Sydney LAN cafe. 3. For such a big prize pool this event should have major coverage, and yet all I can find are a few threads scattered around the web, all started by ordinary posters.
My guess is that someone is trolling for contact info, boys. But hey I could be wrong. If anyone else has any more information on it I'd like to hear it, cause if it is real I'm so in.

If this doesn't get changed hopefully it will be razer blackwidows all around, at least they are mechanical.

If they stick with this map pool I have no chance of winning. I am one of the top zergs on SEA and playing against people like Pinder and Deth I will have 0% chance of winning a bo3 or bo5 with maps like DQ and steppes in the pool. Also unmodified shakuras if i get close spawns I will need to port my level 6 blademaster in to stop the corridor tank-push.
The poor organisation and complete reticence from the organisers is very demoralising. Community sites including SC2sea.com. TEAM LIQUID and SCREDDIT have only had mention via links from users.
The original APC article covering the event was removed, then put back up 1 week later. At first i assumed the tournament was someone trolling. However It seems to actually be going ahead and I guess the article withdrawal was simply due to the realisation that No-one in the sc2 community had even heard of this event.
I am thoroughly disappointed that sponsors like Razer and NRG who are normally so in touch with the community would back a LAN event that appears to be removing balance and competitive play from the equasion. 4v4 REALLY?? This is ludicrous.
Some people might say 4v4 seems more fun, cos more stuff is happening! But even people that don't play the game watch husky or GSL and realise that head-to-head is the most exciting spectator sport.
Oh and don't even get me started on not being able to use my keyboard...
If they are like most LAN keyboards with the ESC key where I'm used to F1 being then I'm sure my opponents will have fun watching me cancel my hatcheries and key tech structures. Thanks alot guys

The pictures of the Cafe are legit. You can see their logo everywhere. Also the asians might have something to do with the cafe being in the CBD and so close to china town? just maybe?
Edit: There are pictures of the "koreans" holding Australian currency.

Somethings just looked a little odd to me so I was naturally a bit cautious about signing over my contact information. There's other stuff surfacing around the web like at APC mag and sc2sea so it was probably just the sheer speed that it was announced that kind of threw me off. Might just give this a go

Yeah i haven't heard back either, starting to worry me. This is easily the second biggest thing (next to the maps) that needs changing if this tournament wants to be taken seriously.

Hmmm, i dont want to drive all the way to sydney to hear is not worth it.

There's no details about how much of the the $20k prizes is real cash also.

But we do know 1st place cash prizes add up to $13,000 and top3 in the 1v1 get cash so it's a reasonable amount.

Thats an AMAZING prizepool for 1s for any tournament. The advertising, qualifiers, and general organisation of this tournament is extremely poor however... kind of sad that you didn't have a bigger input on this

with 25k in the prize pool, I would hype this up a bit more....just saying but yea that's quite odd that a gamer can't use their own keyboard...would upset majority of the pro gamers

They say they invited international teams but run a tournament with very little detail and 3 weeks prior notice? It really is some bad marketing and organization, this type of tournament is huge for the Australian scene, not just for sc2 but gaming as a whole.
|
Has anyone looked at the format for this tournament? It can be found here http://www.nrghardcoregamer.com.au/assets/NRG Hardcore Gamer Qualifier Information.pdf It is ridiculous, it's literally better to place 4th in your group as you get basically a free first 2 rounds in the final tournament, and the 1st/2nd place players even play off against each other first so they all get knocked out earlier. This definitely must be fixed. I've signed up of course because this prize pool is insane lol.
Edit: Anyone that is contacting them think they could ask them about this?

It would be great if they rescheduled it for a later date ^-^, but I don't see that happening :\ Maybe a distinguished Australian esports scene is still a pipedream, for now.

Razer is going to be supplying the gaming peripherals (mouse, keyboard, etc.) on the day of the LAN apparently.
Edit: I believe that you are now allowed to use your own keyboard, mice, etc. for the event. However, there will also be the option of using brand new Razer equipment that will be provided on-site if you choose to do so. Source
|
Bleh @ the map pool. Although I'm glad they're listen to feedback it's still no better than it was. Anyone else (See: Zergs) talking to them about this?
|
|
Anyone got any updates on how this qualifier event is going so far?
|
So how was day 1?? all legit and whatnot? if so i will probably head down for next week
|
Day 1 went alright imo. They got everyone to play their games with little to no dramas. Started pretty late at 1130. Only qualms are constant changing of seating position and it's stuffy/hot.
I think everyone pissed their pants abit when they saw Sen's name pop-up. But it's not taiwan's SEN. XD
Seems like their groups are based on ranking. Every group had 2-3 masters players. About 6-10 no-shows. Groups were then re-adjusted to 5 per group instead of 6.
Pretty much all the masters went through i think.
Off the top of my head: Cjc altpig (4-0) somethingmanero? (4-0) Francis
As for legitimacy of price money, I'm not sure; but seems legit.
P.S Bring your own mouse at least. Even with the same settings....they're inconsistent with every com. And no razer stuff yet. I forgot to ask whether it'll be provided during the main event, probably 'cos I didn't qualify =/
|
|
For what it's worth, the website says that:
Famous International Gamers - Team Fnatic, SK Gaming, Team Immunity! Only the best Starcraft II Players!
There are no fnatic players in attendance, so I have no idea why this is posted. I seriously doubt that SK will be sending a player either.
And yes, Matino did qualify.
|
ImSkeptical also qualified.
It was decently run. Only problem was a mass disconnect at one point (thank christ I wasn't playing at the time). It did seem to take a long time but w/e. Not like I was gonna do much else but play starcraft on sunday. The advertising for the event is LOL but again, w/e. It's all in the game, yo.
I would advise people bring their own equipment. I didn't. The mouse felt pretty similar, but the keyboard is completely flat, and I have mine at a decent incline. Thank Christ (again) an admin gave me a few random Chinese books to prop up my keyboard, worked out pretty well.
EDIT- Skeptical plays Terran. Not Zerg.

Sup guys, new to TL. I'm also qualified ( Clawlock) but give myself little to no chance of scoring a win next week. My group had: 1 silver, 1 gold, 1 diamond (me), and 2 masters. With three going thru from the group it was pretty much foregone conclusion.
I was happy to play against a masters player, since i've never faced one before and my goal is to eventually be in masters.
Echoing some other comments, I brought my own gear and has no issues other than requiring a reboot for my PS2 keyboard. Became a slight pain everything we had to move seats/replug/reboot/fix SC2 settings.
Also it's redonkulously hot in there. I'm srsly gonna be wearing a wife-beater next time.
Good event and be happy to meet some more TL'ers next week as I get pwned by my group!

Congratz Clawlock ^^ Just work on some solid strats, and execute what you are comfortable with. You will be able to gage your skills better and that will be an unimaginable increase in your gameplay

From the site: "INTERNATIONAL GAMERS Including ACE from Startale." Good luck everyone!!
|
Does anyone know who the players are invited aside from Ace? Also is there room to spectate at the venue?
|
Yes, you can come and spectate. No idea who else is coming. God i hope i don't get Ace first round, or most of the other player's for that matter. I'm terrible
|
Why are players that didnt qualify allowed to play? To sounds unfair to me.

Lifes not fair.

I think that SEA players can handle ACE. The style is a counter to his Like the topping of a pizza.

On March 31 2011 11:34 Santi wrote: Why are players that didnt qualify allowed to play? To sounds unfair to me.
I don't think it's unfair, half-invite tournaments and half-qualifier tournaments are very common, TSL3 anyone. Additionally without invites, the player line-up would be restricted to very local player as few big names can afford to spend so much time off the tournament circuit for both a qualifier and then hang around for the main tournament.
I can understand that some of the players here may seem hard done by, but let's be frank: with such a large prize pool on the line i doubt the sponsors would be satisfied with only local players attending. The event needs more publicity.
Well i may make an effort to come and watch, gl to everyone participating.

Ace won't be alone so i hear; going to be joined by Squirtle, Bomber and Clide, although this is just hearsay.
|
ST_Ace is going to be in this, should be exciting.

I dont see ST spending ~10k on sending players for a tournament where the prize money would hardly allow them to break even.... Just my opinion.
|
Yeah, I heard about them inviting a whole bunch of guys from Startale, apparently at the end of July's interview he mentioned
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=206941
- Any last comments? o I want to thank my practice partners, TSL_Clide, ST_Squirtle, and ST_Bomber. ST_Ace will be going to Australia for an event so I hope he wins and brings back many goodies. But today, I think I should buy my teammates some good food.
So, yeah. that takes a lot of pressure off. I mean, I was worried about having to play YYJ or filthy or some shit, but some Korean is coming down and insta-owning everyone, np!

I think Ace is the only one from startale coming, july just thanked the other 3 players for practicing with him.
Really cool for a korean to come for an SEA event... if only more large tournaments were around.
|
ST_Ace is going to Australia ^_^V
|
Stoked for Ace, hope I can grab a picture with him before he starts playing!
|
I'm at the Cafe and Brackets are up, ACE third round!
I shall rape him so hard that Startale will blame lag...
Psyched for the main event!
EDIT:
Other important things.
Event is Double elimination Starting map is Xelnaga caverns with each player getting to veto 1 map each. (Same map pool)

|

edit: Probably no stream - I didnt see any officials observing
edit 2: brackets are up here
Im on other other side of Ace's bracket, w00t. my goal then is to secure 1 win in an BO3!
|
Thanks, would love to see Ace playing some SEA players... Oh well...
|
I would almost consider flying to Sydney just to meet Ace, lol. Oh well, I'm busy this weekend

How much would a round trip ticket From Korea to Australia + living expenses cost for 1 person?

So would I, but unfortunately this event has been so poorly disorganised it was hard to tell whether or not it would be worth going.
Hopefully it will be a success and the next event will be better organised and have a stream.
Also, anyone have any idea how they'll make money from this event?
|
Sigh, FXO team kill...
I predict the top left bracket will be Azz vs PiG final, bottom left is Filthy vs tgun final, top right Ace will crush them all, bottom right will be winner of YoonYJ vs Starhunt.

2 to 2.5k per ticket + about another 500 bucks per person, so worst case scenario 3k per person....
Thus 12k to send 4 people.

Sigh, teamkill in quarters. That's going to suck.

Double Elimination though, so whoever loses can still rape face!
Me? I'm up against Ace... Going to be interesting.

No stream, will be coverage on sc2sea.com for the event however. I saw Ace play today and well... I don't think anyone will be able to take a game off him. He is just that freaking good.

Mafia and Ace round 2? sorry buddy

What are the results up to? How long will this thing end cause I might come out now and watch the rest of it.

it's gonna go for a fair while still ro64 atm in a double elimination bo3 tourney

YYJ just took a game off ACE, TvP base trade. 1-0 up!

It is, Ace won 2-1.

Is there any stream for this?

Nope. It's one of the things that wasn't organised properly. The rounds took forever, wouldn't surprise me if the tournament doesn't end until well into the morning.
|
iaguz just took a game off Ace too. Perhaps a vT weakness?

Still going, nGenLight vs Iaguz in the lower brackets final, winner plays ACE who has to catch a plane in 6 hours ....
|
You can't let a korean take that money home, it has to stay here!
|
nGen.Light 3-0 aLt.YoonYJ, now he'll take on aLt.iaguz in the semi finals!
Sorry GTR, I went out of my way to upload all the games individually so people could take their pick. I'll make a complete pack once it's all over.

nGen.Light takes out aLt.iaguz 3-2 in a NAILBITING series for the semi-final. At last, we have our grand finalist to step up against ST_Ace!
|
|
+ Show Spoiler [Spoiler: Grand Finals] +ST_Ace is up 2-0 so far, taking a quick 3 minute and 58 second game from nGen.Light on Scrap Station with a proxy gate!
UPDATE: nGen.Light takes a game back from ST_Ace! This best of 7 Grand Final is sitting at 2-1 with the StarTale IEM Champion in the lead!
UPDATE 2: Game 4 between nGen.Light and ST_Ace was a very close one! Ace manages to extend his lead to 3-1, bringing him 1 game away from victory!

Grand Finals replays are up!
I'll create a replay pack within the next 12 hours and link it. Need to fly home at 6am, been awake for 24 hours!

lol damn, are there any updated brackets?
|
All of their brackets were done on pen and paper/spreadsheet. I asked them to e-mail me a copy and I'll whip up a pretty version for them.
Recorded about 2 hours of footage overall, will be editing it all into a decent video when I have some time.

Good to meet you all yesterday. IMHO the event was pretty smooth for the first major Aussie tournament. Next time will be even better, and they even plan to stream it!
Watching Ace IRL was like a dream come true. I can't believe how focused he stayed over ~14 hrs of competitive play.
Even during break he would facepalm nubs in marine arena, or play off race T or Z ladder matching against diamond players and watch them rage hard. He actually six-pooled some hapless zerg jobber and the chat went:
(once scouted) OH OF COURSE
(once all drones dead and spine crawler making in opponents base) FUCK YOU
(Happless nub) has left the game!
|
I think one of the most amazing things was watching him play with a "offrace, only allowed to use one finger" handicap and still winning with Terran against a very aggressive 4gate with close spawns on Metalopolis... whilst fast expanding off 2 rax.

the most amazing thing was him getting drone rushed and him destroying it with out loosing more then 2 scvs...
|
Lookout Iaguz, there's a DT in your main behind your mineral line!!!
|
Nice pics. Event sounds awesome too. Have it in Melbourne next time .
|
Hehe, funnily enough, despite playing 12 TvP's that day, not a single dark templar was warped in.
Why can't I always be this fortunate!?

Would of been nice to have them announce the automatic seed of ACE into the tournament - As well as not have the tournament run to past midnight.

It was announced on their website prior to the finals, and whilst the event ran late, noone there would say its the fault of the organizers, more with the double elim format. Organizers admitted it could be run better, and they're more than willing to work with us in making the next one a lot better.
|
Yea the tournament went smoothly. I only wish i did better!
I was able to watch ST_ACE play and no wonder he is IEM champion. His hands are like magic!
Apparently this is gonna happen twice a year so i'm really excited and gonna practise hard!!!
I realise I have a lot to improve on still.

Terrific interview with Ace about his visit has been on eSports Daily.
Ace, such a manner bear
