This thread is for discussing the games, not crying about balance. Thanks.

Can someone explain to me why so many Zergs don't build any roaches? From my "lower player perspective" it would seem that they are very useful in absorbing tank shots and marine fire so that zerglings and banelings can engage easier.

I'm pretty sure ret is way better than almost all europeans on a consistent basis. Haypro is probably top 10 european. It's not that ret is bad, it's that koreans as so good. They play extremely solid safe games taking little to no risks. They are agressive when they need to be and react appropriately. Ret got outplayed relying too much on numbers to win, when his opponent was focusing on unit positioning and control. In the end, a strategy is only as good as the execution and ret's execution was much lower than his opponents. GL to ret in NASL, i'm guessing he will win or make top 4.

highlighted the important part, I kind of feel like people don't realize this sometimes. Many of the korean players are on teams, with coaches and teamates to discuss the game with, practicing 10 hours a day sometimes. I just feel like, with enough practice zerg is simply the most unforgiving race with the least amount of options, and at the highest level(korea) it seems everyone knows how to play vs zerg.

Ret just won assembly, but got 2-0'd in Code A. Moonglade got 2-0'd convincingly in the first round of Code A, and Haypro too. I think these players could do the same thing ret did in assembly. These players can win NA and EU tournaments, but when the competition is at it's highest it's just so much harder.

So yeah ... nerf korea.

Remember ogstop and ogsinca at dreamhack? yeah...

Remember oGsTOP at GSL Code A last season? Yeah.

That's what matters.

You can't survive early game with roaches. And roaches suck against marines, marauders and tanks.

Zerg gets rolled over again

Poor Ret, he's such a good player bur he has to be so much better than a terran to beat one, it sucks

Don't give up Jos you'll end up doing well soon!
Try another route paperboy.

Roaches are supposed to be a counter to marines, but since marines are small, and have 1 more range, at any time a ball of marines hits a ball of roaches, 2 lines of marines can attack 1 line of roaches, so you are always going to be out-dps'ed.

This would not be a problem, since we have so much money, but BEHIND the marines are tanks, doing 50 damage a shot.

Against a PURE MECH army of hellion/thor/tank, roaches are awesome, since the roaches can tank long enough to get close to the tanks. But when a ball of marines in protecting the tanks, it just doesn't work.

A mixture of roaches to tank the innitial tank shots while baneling/zergling/muta goes in might be something we have to experiment with more, but thats for the pro zergs to try.

I do build roaches sometimes in the earlygame, before marines have 1+ upgrades and stim. But after that they are useless and will just eat into your supply count. Another issue is that you can't afford both melee and ranged upgrades.

I think people are confused. Phoenix only counter mutas in small number or if phoenix outnumber mutas. If zerg has enough mutas, then phoenix no longer counter due to splash damage from mutas.

Dude, just look at numbers, not only if mutas does splash dmg.

Phoenix Dps = 9

Muta Dps = 8,6 (In perfect scenario) 5,9 (In worst one)

Phoenix HP = 120 + 60

Muta HP = 120

Phoenix MS = 4,25 + atack while moving

Muta MS = 3,75

Phoenix Range = 4

Muta Range = 3

Tell me why u think people are confuse, and why mutas beats phoenix if numbers and gameplay show us the contrary.

Phoenix aren't 9 dps, they are 18. It's 18 dps vs 8.6 + 150% the hp.

Just watched the Ret vs CchapseungEu aka Jjob aka M aka MMA and have to say was very impressed by MMA (sorry to ret fans~). But having seen this guy play in the SlayerS vs Zenex GSTL matches (and almost pull out the reverse all-kill T-T) I've been a huge fan and it was great to see the games tonight. Had great micro and really nice multi tasking. Hoping to see him go far~

I agree completely.

To put it briefly, ret went muta/ling/bling, with some infestors mixed in after a while. Terran went tank/marine with double ebay both games, and was constantly dropping, keeping ret's econ at bay and diverting his attention/units while the tank/marine got into good positions.

Game 1 eventually ret got like 7 broodlords just as the tank line got to his base, infestor/broodlord/muta + a few corruptors vs marine and 1 viking battle began, and my stream cut out (lol). Somehow ret lost his broods and the game.

Game 2 the Terran did a standard timing push with his tank/marine, but ret stalled its advance with enough lings to threaten if the terran tried to unsiege and advance, and ret started whittling terran's forces down with his muta ball. Terran diverted ret's attention with a drop at rets bases across the map, and retreated his remaining tank/marine from the push, allowing him to have a much larger force later. From what I've seen, most terrans would have just let that force get eaten up once the zerg got big enough; I was really impressed with that decision. Anyway, Terran pushed out again with a huge tank/marine force, and ret's broodlords were in the wrong place, and he just wasn't in position to deal with it. gg.

I'm a toss player so I have no dog in this fight but it just seems like Terran is too strong vs. Zerg.

Ret played very well, had superior supply, tons of money (bc he couldn't go past 200 supply) and was unable to dent Terran's maxed army.

I really hope DRG qualifies for next season, I think he is a Zerg that could probably beat a lot of people because of his kinda unorthodox style. He's a lot more aggressive and has great unit control, and doesn't really play as standard as most Zergs. He plays Zerg in such a way that I think it would be very difficult for an opponent to actually prepare for him because he's not as predictable as Ret or IdrA.
