People have been going pure ling bane because it makes your actual army much stronger, whichs allows you to get a lot more economy, and eventually go into hydra/lurker. So you won't die to a frontal push with this strategy, but you will die to multitask from the Terran since it's the best way to play against this style. On bigger maps where you're less afraid to die mutalisks are more common, but there's less maps like that in the current map pool.

DRG almost always goes mutas in ZvT (recently I saw him use Lurker/Viper more tho) Yeah, I was reading this thread going "what about that one guy?" but I'm more into BW so I didn't have the name in my head. They show up all the time in his ZvT games lol

Like others said, there are more options now, so Muta isn't as common. You can go Infestors to help deal with drops for example, or have some Corruptors, or even Vipers to Parabomb the Medivacs. Then there's the whole set of Roach/Hydra/Lurker/Viper type comps, etc. Mutas are still solid though, it's player and map dependent.

It's all cyclical though, once pro's figure out how to crush this new fangled (lol, "new") Roach max style and the Hydra/Lurker thing Mutas will probably make a comeback as almost all playstyles tend to in this game. For anything below the top level of play though, Mutas are still devastating and are my go to units vs. Terran.
