Hi guys, sorry for the question but I can't find an answer anywhere. How do I play the staircase? Is it a mod that I need to install or....???

No mod or so, you can play it in all multiplayer : versus AI, ladder, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4

You just limit the choices you can make, to better focus on execution and get a deeper knowledge of the game. After the two first steps, you should:
– be able to saturate 3 bases with pro-like stats
– without any supply troubles
– be comfortable not looking at your army
– be comfortable not looking at your base
– get a feeling of "the biggest army wins"

Adding gas and more units add some more variety and allows fancier tactics. But after some training with this method you will get better mechanics.

I would recommend to think about changing your bindkeys at the same occasion. I switched to TheCore Lite while following TheStaircase intensively during few weeks, I went from 40 APMs to 90 APMs, and got familiar with a bindkey settings that fits all races, get easy access to group/camera keys, enable some rapid fire hotkeys and so…

Hello Everyone. Long time lurker and I think by this point I can be considered a fanboy of Jak and his sc2 resources, TheCore, Staircase, and the tutorial central videos are amazing and I am glad that I found them because I can piece together a training regiment for starcraft 2!

I just have a quick question about GGTracker. Looking through this forum it tells me that the saturated base statistic is broken and does not work correctly with LOTV.

As I am doing the staircase and I am getting rekked again and again (im in gold), I am able to look at my spending quotient and see that I am actually improving.

But I am always skeptical about the base saturation statistic as it is so prominently placed on GG Tracker.

Can anyone concretely confirm or deny that the GGTRACKER SATURATION SPEED is broken for LOTV?

I would really appreciate this, just to make me feel more at ease and that even though I'm getting rekked on ladder, its ok because I am spending my income like a pro :D

Regarding Saturation Speed.

It's pretty much fucked Disregard for now. I'd love to have more stats to pull from, but I don't know of any replacements that would work. Ideally we'd need a brand new metric that gauges income in a way that takes game length, workers build, workers lost, etc into account so we can have one general "making money" metric and one "spending money" metric. Spending Skill works great, but Saturation Speed was a failure.

Why are the measured spending quotients different on GGTracker and SC2ReplayStats? The vast majority of the difference seems to be coming from the average income figure (I think the formulae used is the same)? Is it because GGTracker only looks at mineral income?

I've tried to compare the stats with the ones shown in game (which only show total resources mined). SC2Replaystats is much closer to the value I calculate for average income (total resources mined / no. of minutes). My best guess as to why the GGTracker value is much lower is because maybe it does not take into account the change in the timer in LotV (by a factor of approximately 1.4 according to teamliquid site)?

If so, taking account of the timer change only presents a problem if the league benchmarks (estimated by whatthefat) are not updated. But it looks to me like they are updated (http://ggtracker.com/spending_skill_stats#?race=zerg&gateway=eu)?

Thanks for trying TheStaircase! Glad you all are enjoying it.

Since spending skill is a relative benchmark (the badge represents what league player you are macro-ing like based on other ggtracker.com games) it isn't super critical that the outputs are adjusted for the new time. Of course it would be awesome if that were the case, but unfortunately it is not. David doesn't have the time to add features anymore, but the whole project is open source at this point, so anyone who can solve the problem is welcome to!! :D

Really I should probably move everything to sc2replaystats.com but I haven't had the time to work it out with the guy who runs that site just yet.

Hi everyone, GGTracker here. There's a noble programmer and SC2 fan who would like to fix the economic benchmarks, Anders Nickelsen. He and I have been discussing how to adjust the economic benchmarks, including Saturation Speed, here: https://github.com/ggtracker/ggtrackerstack/issues/44

The question of the moment for us is what mineral income to use for the benchmark of "one base fully saturated". I assumed it would be 24 workers, but maybe it should be 16? What do y'all think?

24 is way to much. 16 is reasonable, and you can make an argument for something like 18 or 20 I guess. Especially for zerg, it is very rare that you see 24 drones on minerals in pro games.

Hey there! Because of macro mechanics changes (and a lack of complex benchmarks... something we're working on now) we can't measure chronoboost efficiency (before we tracked excess energy on the Nexus). So protoss is without atm. Terran is always 100, because you should never max out on energy on your OC (the terran macro score from ggtracker measures % of time with maxed out energy on orbitals).

profile not updating? do you have this message where your profile link should be:

'An error has occurred. Please try again. Log Out'??

if yes, then try to change your profile portrait from inside the game(sc2) to one of the basic/standard portraits and wait for battle.net to update your info - after approx. 2-3 minutes you should be able to access your profile...

...at least that's what i had to find out because i wanted to use 'thestaircase' with ggtracker, too - but had this weird error...

anyhow, hope that helps.

Heads up: No need for an account to use TheStaircase now that Saturation Speed has been removed from the program. We'll be replacing it (probably with income advantage) eventually, but things like this that are all volunteer based are notoriously slow moving.

This system is 100% not about getting into masters/gm. It's about helping with the steep learning curve in the Bronze-Plat area, teaching fundamental macro mechanics through exploration instead of dictation.
