GGTracker in general is broken for LotV. Basically we're waiting for a white knight coder to come along and save us (ggtracker is fully open source).

For the time being, just stick to spending skill (still working last I checked). Forget about all the other benchmarks.

Thanks JaK for this great contribution to the community! It's definitely helping my game.

I'm a professional coder and I'd love to contribute some code as a thank you.

The bug I've noticed most is that the saturation speed calculation seems to skip bases sometimes. Am I right, or is the expected behavior different to keep metrics in line now that expansions are so much faster?

My ggtracker handle is philosotoss if you want to look at examples. Let me know what it's supposed to do and I'll try to make it do that!

Thanks again for ggtracker, and a big thanks to everyone else who has contributed to it.

Step 1-3 for Z
It's really tough to have good macro on ladder with pure zergling, because they're so mineral-cheap and larva-expensive. On 3 base income you need ~4.5 fully injected hatches to spend effectively, and that rarely happens when things like adept drops & liberators are messing with queen count & inject rate. I think I'll be able to spend much better once I can add roach to my comp, but I can't string together 4/5 games at my goal level to get there.

This problem doesn't really occur with pure marine/hellion or zealot. Instead of zergling, it would make a lot more sense to go straight to pure roach, or at least add roach to given units.

Also, is 'Jormungandr' one of Jakatak's accounts? Ran into that guy on ladder, sounded like an alt account.

I think I'll be able to spend much better once I can add roach to my comp, but I can't string together 4/5 games at my goal level to get there.

I agree. It's much more difficult to keep your money low with just Zerglings.

It would be totally wrong though, if Jak added Roaches to "Given Units".

Why? By the time you master
- Injects
- Creep Spread
- Spend your Larva (avoid idle Larva)
- Supply management (Overlords)
- Keep your money low!
- No SupplyBlocks
you will be in very good shape.

And IF your Macro is strong and your Mechanics are solid. Zerglings are very, very strong. See for yourself:

Was thinking ggtracker staircase mode would be even more awesome, if it showed average time supply blocked. In terms of rank. That would be AMAZING!!

How do I know when to build more gateways and pylons? I often go either stockpiling too many resources or making too many gateways and not using all of them. And I still have the tendency to just build pylons if my minerals got too high.

I play Terran so the general guideline for me on three base in tvz/tvp if I'm going bio heavy is 8 rax 1 factory 1 starport. Things like that kind of advice will make your time macroing much easier.

I am no protoss player so I cannot give you exact numbers but with the staircase (especially if you use no or few gas) you will add a lot more structures than you are used to in normal builds where your build is not optimized about building probes and army but also about getting tech, with which calculations become a little bit more complex.

So when you play staircase you need to establish some kind of checklist (e.g. the Mental Checklist Approach by Day9).
What you do is basically this:
- Check if you are producing probes, if not build some (you can actually build one and queue one if you lack in speed)
- Check if you are producing army units / your warp-ins are free, if you are not producing and you can, do it
- Check if you are near your current supply cap, if you are build some pylons
- Check your minimap (just glance at it to see if there are any red dots)
- Check if you have money now, build more gateways and bases if you have

This is a very basic thing to do and it applys to all playstyles you can do (not just the staircase exercises). You can do this when you practice with the staircase.
If you play a game you will also do more things like checking your scout, checking upgrades, checking runbys, checking harassment, checking your army and so on, but focus on that if you have the foundations down.

Hey, just wanted to drop it to say that thanks to this, I actually managed to get promoted to Silver. Still only using Mineral units only.

Lots, lots of close calls but I learn not to panic and keep macroing even when I'm attacking and being harassed at the same time. And I even managed to win against banelings, which is the hard counter to this clumped up cheap units (to be fair, the enemy floats with 700 minerals and gas since he only got three hatcheries on each of his expand. And I did take advantage of me narrowing the banelings' path using my barracks when he attacks me first, thanks to my tendency of having a messy layout for my buildings).

The nice part about this "build" is that it's pretty cheese/early harass resistant since you keep on making units. And if you can repel the cheese, go strike back at once since the enemy is at its weakest right then. I see a Terran opponent floating his money thanks to him harassing me with a single reaper. Ended the match by just rushing him right away with my marines.

Edit: Wow, top tier silver and low level gold are kicking my ass. Got into a match with a Terran and he keeps me from expanding more with his siege tanks, resulting in me mining nearly every single mineral on my side of the map. That was some expert siege tank medivac drop he had.

For Zergs, who want to practise Step #0, I made a new map "Creep or die" for LOTV (Legacy of the Void).

It won't kill Drones "quietly" like the old one, but send attack waves at you, if you fail to spread your Creep.

I might have missed something in this thread but I can't see if the ggtracker bugs ever got fixed? I don't know if I should trust it or just go by my spending skill in which case I should have moved on to the next level a long time ago

just go on your spending skill and make a benchmark for yourself concerning income. Saturation speed is obsolete.

You should add that the "spending skill level" which is shown doesnt actually show your macro skills... I see a lot of bronze with a "spending skill" of an top GM which is pretty much impossible.... Many people think that they macro at the level of a top gm which is totally false. The game itself shows you enough about your macro at the score screen so why use websites like that?

Yes you said it there, you are in master league. Thats a point in the game where builds become more and more important. But i would say you doesnt need a buildorder to get higher in rank, at least to diamant. I became master without really playing a build order i just played like how i thought it would work and it did.

I seriously think that low league players like bronze - gold/platin shouldnt focus on a build order which was used by a pro player. Mostly they mess that up because they simply dont have the macro/multitasking/micro, or more important, they simply dont have the scouting/gameknowledge to react to the thing your opponent is playing. All these things put them further behind in the game.

So i would say just focus on your macro and you will get dia without a build order or lots of micro, mostly just "a move" works due to you just outmacro your enemy.

And you cant really count average supply block because in some games your overlords get killt, or its a basetrade and u lose all your depots/pylons.
