I tried massing roaches and stocking up money but his thors were way more cost effective so I just ran out of money. What am i supposed to do differently? I know my upgrades were a little late but I don't think that would make up for the massive difference in minerals lost. I saw a mass thor counter of mass banelings, but what do I do when they are spread out? PS: I'm plat | ||

The Thor army is very slow but powerful. Take advantage of his lack of mobility and hit him where his army isn't. This will force him to stay home and split his army to defend his bases. His lack of mobility also means that you can expand like crazy. Expand all over the map, and when you see his army attack one of your expansions just go counter attack one of his bases. Thors are expensive units so if can keep his economy low and keep your own economy high you don't have to be super efficient in straight up trades with his army cos you will be able to rebuild much quicker. As for unit composition, go for high mobility units like roach/ling/bane then when you have got a big economy transition into brood lords. As long as you don't let your broodlords clump to much thors end up being pretty useless against them. Also Neural parasite works great against thors aswell. | ||

What I absolutely hate dealing with, however, is Ultra/Ling/Bling. Mech is slow and importantly, must attack you. With creep spread, it's possible to sit and wait your army in an ambush position (especially since mech works best in a giant ball). Run your lings behind the army to cut off its retreat, run ultras in at the front to tank for the banelings and you will see the mech army basically die. Additionally, since you'll be on 4-5 (or even 6) bases to 3/4 terran bases + the fact that the zerg macro mechanic can build a ton of units almost instantly, you can remax faster on whatever your heart desires while the terran is scrambling to rebuild his army. Importantly, this response works best when your opponent is on 2/2. This also works best against a Thor/Hellion composition. With 2/3, or 3/3, it's different. This is where you need to get infestors to NP and either use them in conjunction with ultras or BLs. If you go for the BLs, try to morph them offensively to harass the production facilities (almost all of the maps in the pool have amazing dead space/cliffs you can abuse). Also, practice splitting BLs if you choose to use them, as Thor splash is pretty good against them... and if they're playing modern mech, it's not hard to get vikings and ravens to PDD corruptors. -Make Roaches until the late game (i.e. stop making them when you want to start building up a defense for his probably all-in-maxed-out attack). Use Tunneling Claws and Overlord doom drops to set him behind -Get a pretty quick Infestation Pit (when it's finished start hive and the Infestor energy upgrade, and of course NP afterwards), and start Brood Lord production when you're on 4+ bases (and you should be on 4+ bases quickly vs mech) -Overdrone and make tons of Spine Crawlers. They do badly vs mech, but when you have enough of them you can slow his push down significantly to allow your Broods to get into a good defensive position for whatever base he tries to attack Hope that helped | ||

And spread out broodlords with infestors for infested terrans will work best. But you should start out with roaches because else they'll just hit you pre-broodlord timing and kill you. And roaches are really good versus small mech armies. | ||

Infestor with NP, and well upgraded roaches (with lings or banes if u want to mix those in) should make it. | ||

you want to either do a lot of roach pressure asap once u know its mech ( roach dropping, etc ) or rushing straight to broods | ||

this is there my mechanics and control let me down. you beat it with mass lings, a few banes and roaches/6blords Im only gold leveler so of course. its essential that you split and target fire each thor with 30+ roaches, you need then hotkey a few banes and take out any repairing scvs, ive noticed in all of my games they always have a few scvs with them, now heres the big thing, i always tech lords so not a problem for me but i make 8 mutalisks and just annoy him . . if he falls for it, hell pull the thors back, you go crazy on ling reinforcements. when he comes back (maybe with another thor) surround! Ive usually got 2/2/2 by this point of the game and i will say sometimes this doesnt work, if hes expanding behind all of this then ive never won using this but the battles go on forever, always 40 minute+ games. My problem of course in low league is control and cost efficient trades, i know i can beat it but an A moving terran army with splash damage is hard. Its soo cool of a feeling when you nail it and overcome it though and these replays go in my feelGood folder | ||
