First of all, you might want to re-watch this video:

So, what does this video tell you:
1. The R and L in the layouts represent your MOUSE hand. So if you are downloading the TRM layout, you have to use the right hand for mouse control and the left hand for the keyboard. (the basic setup, if you are right handed)
2. There is something special about TheCore: If you are right handed, you put your keyboard hand (left hand) on the right side of the keyboard, as displayed in the picture here: http://jakatak.github.io/thecorevisualizer/visualizer/
So, where do you want to put your fingers exactly?
Assuming you are using the TRM layout, you want to have your index finger on P, middle on O, ring on I and pinky on J.
Now you see, Ö and Ä are actually really close to your fingers and pretty nice to press!
A speciallity of the Nordic (and german) keyboard is the Alt Gr key, which is located to the right side of the space bar. Starcraft 2 recocnizes this key as Ctrl+Alt. This is the reason, why all the location bindings are on Ctrl+Alt+key. As your hand is already on the right side of the keyboard, you want to utilize the Alt key there, which on the Nordic keyboard is Alt Gr (=Ctrl+Alt), so you only have to press 1 key.
I hope this can help you start using and enjoying TheCore

That helped alot Thank you. Just one thing. So I want to use the Alt Gr key insted of the control key for location bindings. Becuse it is a combined key for both Ctrl and Alt?

- Again Thanks!!

IT's not a combined of CTRL+ALT, it's SCII engine being dumb.

Ctrl + Alt is a substitute for Alt Gr: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AltGr_key

@Bavernes: You might want to give the FAQ at the bottom of the opening post a read. You can find it HERE (just expand the spoiler)
There are also answers for other questions that might come up soon, if you start using TheCore

Hi guys, zerg question. For my injects I use the single hatch per hotkey method and I just spam 4-5-6 all game to see when i should inject. Using the core 2.0 i see no easy way to do this since the CGs are paired (like I/O, K/L, 8/9) and i cant do a clean rolling motion with my fingers. The video on larvae inject using the core only adresses the methods where you assign all queens to one CG and i dont want to do that. Anyone uses the single hatch per hotkey method with the core? Suggestions?

@Ruaz
0-9-8 should work, assuming you use the index finger for 0, middle for 9, and then ring finger for 8.

Well i suppose i could try that, i would have to find a new home for my all hatcheries hotkey though, which i currently bind to 0. Also, my inject cycles would require finger repetion (index finger for 0 and inject ability)

Hey I watched the Hotkey Meta episode and both Jak and TLO mentioned you can bind more than 2 keys(up to 5?) to a single command. Anyone know how to do this?
I would love to have more than just one button for that rapid fire trick.
Thanks in advance

You have to edit the hotkey file that is located here:
C:\Users\XXX\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\XXX\Hotkeys

Within are all the key bindings of SC2. The entry you are searching for is this:

TargetChoose=LeftMouseButton,P,J,BracketOpen,SemiColon,H

(In this case already with 6 key bindings to the same ability)

@Doc
You can do it with pretty much infinity keys (although there is probably some limit). Currently for 2.0 we're doing it for all but 3 larva so that's 8

This is how you do it:

Hello JaKaTaK and everyone else!

I just started learning the core today after watching Meta yesterday. I'm currently looking at the spreadsheets for Zerg and Terran respectively. I noticed that the hotkey suggestions are different in the two documents.

For example: In the Terran document is suggests Hatcheries on P and Injecting Queens on O. In the Zerg document it says both Hatcheries and Injecting Queens on P. My first question is which one is the actual suggested one. My second question is how I am supposed to be able to have both on the same hotkey?

Thanks in advance

Well, it depends on which race you want to play and which hotkey file you downloaded.
If you intent to play Terran it is best to download a Terran hotkey file and if you want to paly Zerg a Zerg file.
If you are playing Random, then the Random layout should suit your needs.
So choose the hotkey file and ignore the other spread sheets, as the races do not only recommend different CGs but also have different ability bindings that are optimized for each race.

About your second question about the double binded P key:
It is possible due to layering with the shift key.
This means, if you press P, then Control Group 1 is selected, but if you press SHIFT+P, then CG 2 is selected. (Check Cell G5 and G8, and you will see CG2 uses Shift+Key for selecting the CG)
This leads to the problem, that you can only add units to one of the CGs with Ctrl+P. In this case it is CG2 (Cell F8).
If you want to add new bases to your CG1, you need a different key combination (Cell F6). The nice thing about using Alt+P for adding hatches to your macro CG is, that Cam positions are also created via Alt+key. So when building a new hatch you want to select it, press Alt+P and keep holding down Alt and press the key for the Cam location afterwards.

Jakatak, what are you thoughts on using middle-click to move the screen as opposed to moving the mouse to the edge of the screen?

I'm not Jakatak, but I've experimented with drag scroll in the past. My thoughts:

• Drag scroll can be a minor help with some tasks that require small camera movements such as creep spread.
• Drag scroll isn't great in battles and other crisis situations because you can't click while doing it, so no attack-moving, boxing or anything while doing it.
• Drag scroll also hides the mouse pointer, unfortunately, which makes it harder to move to an object you want to click while also moving the camera.
• Drag scroll on the middle mouse button (= scroll wheel, usually) is somewhat awkward to press and seems quite slow overall. It's alright for setting camera locations at the start of the game, but later on not so much.
• You usually want to do as much as possible with the keyboard to have more time for the more difficult mouse tasks. So if I were you and wanted to experiment with drag scroll, I'd put it on a keyboard button.

All in all, I haven't found massive improvement potential with drag scroll, mostly because it blocks all other mouse functions.

As I zerg player I use this direct injection method. Select queen group shift click inject button and then i mash the base cycle button (I believe F9 for base camera with the core layout) while clicking on each base all while holding the shift button. I find this much faster than manually hitting each camera button and injecting that way. I think i will customize my Core layout so that '8' will be base cycle/base camera. Please let me know your thoughts on this idea. I can see the only problem with this being that if you dont have a queen for each base then the queens will begin to wander.

Thanks,

Hello again YoTcA! Thanks again for your answer. However, I have a follow-up questions!

First let mer clarify that I use TheCore ZRM. And it does not work in the way you're describing when it comes to creating control groups and adding to control groups. In my global hotkey settings, under Control Groups it says the following:

Create Control Group 1: Control + Shift + H
Create Control Group 2: Control + Shift + P

Select Control Group 1: P
Select Control Group 2: Shift P

Add to Control Group 1: Control + Alt + J
Add to Control Group 2: Control + P

I don't even know how I am supposed to be able to press Control + Alt + J in a good way?

Thanks again for the answer!

Oh, sorry, mixed up the layout there with the Alt+P and Alt+J ^^.
Either way, according to the FAQ:
8. Why is x hotkey set to Ctrl+Alt? It is so hard to press.
- Hide Spoiler -
Many Keyboards have an Alt Gr key on the right side and an Alt key on the left side. In Starcraft 2, Alt Gr is represented by Ctrl+Alt. If you do not have a keyboard with an Alt Gr key, you have likely downloaded the wrong keyboard type.

So you only have to press your AltGr key and not Alt+Ctrl.
